Donald Trump on Oprah Winfrey Show

There's a difference between erudite self-confidence and pompous bombast.

Of course, some of that is perception. :)

***>Two, his erudite, astute self-confidence even then.

You are one of the few people who might actually deserve Trump as a president.

Is that a PA?
Just asking... ;)

:P

As much as saying Bill would deserve Ross Perot.

I got this in an email the other day:

"Donald Trump was invited to address a major gathering of the American Indian Nation two weeks ago in upstate New York. He spoke for almost an hour about his plans for increasing every Native American's present standard of living. He referred to how he had supported every Native American issue that came to the news media. Although Mr. Trump was vague about the details of his plans, he seemed most enthusiastic and spoke eloquently about his ideas for helping his "red sisters and brothers." At the conclusion of his speech, the Tribes presented him with a plaque inscribed with his new Indian name, "Walking Eagle." The proud Mr. Trump accepted the plaque and then departed in his motorcade to a fundraiser, waving to the crowds. A news reporter later asked the group of chiefs how they came to select the new name they had given to the Donald. They explained that "Walking Eagle" is the name given to a bird so full of shit it can no longer fly. "

So original, I laughed 40 years ago when I heard that. Only then it was Carter. Change the name every 4 or 8 years and it keeps going.

***Two things struck me regarding this clip. One, he was a guest on Oprah's show. Two, his erudite, astute self-confidence even then.

That passes as erudite for you?????[:/]

My undergraduate degree is in business. Trump certainly did better than me. In fact he has done better than all of us put together. I applaud success.

Compare to the Clintons who are the most politically astute couple I have seen in my life. Or BHO, who made it to the top being the immaculate political servant.

Being born with a silver spoon in his mouth might have given him a slight leg up in "making it" in business. That occurrence seemed to work for Rmoney too.

To use another way of looking at it... Those who were born on third base always seem to believe their home run in our society was actually earned.

Ummm...

Not really.

He was born into a very, very wealthy family. He didn't earn what he has.

As a matter of fact, he would have done better (like $10 billion better) by simply investing in the S&P 500.

He's also driven 2 casinos into bankruptcy. How the hell do you go bankrupt running a casino??

See post #13 above.

Yeah, I've laughed about going bankrupt on the casino myself. However, in the business world it's not what you lose that counts, it's what you can keep.

Maybe the S&P would have been better for him but not nearly as much fun. It's the "art of the deal" that intrigues the Donald. He likes to compete not watch.

I very often deal with clients/associates with over 100m wealth; infrequently with clients/associates having a few billion plus. I’ll note there is not a common link among them in regards to skill/intelligence. Some are among the sharpest people you will ever meet; for others it’s more down to situation, happenchance or family. Don’t be too easily impressed by bank account alone.

Trump is a property developer. To me I hold drug dealers and black market arms dealers in higher regard than property developers (sorry to offend anyone who has ever repainted/flipped a 3bedroom house and calls themselves a “property developer”). It’s a truly dirty business, no matter what sums are involved and or what cities/countries are being discussed.

I sometimes deal with them as their money spends as well as anyone else’s. However, I’d see it as embarrassing to have a property developer (I actually nearly spit saying the term) in serious consideration for President.

When I was in business school in 80’s, I too bought a copy of Trumps “Art of the Deal” (I was young and impressionable). In later years I ran across the old copy and promptly threw it in the rubbish bin – where it belonged.

That reads like jealous envy because your parents did not bless you. Would you seek to bless your children?

Some of us had to EARN our place in this society.... I thought you in the fringe wing of the GOP were supposed to be big on personal responsibility and hard work???

Why do so many of you worship your oligarchs and give everything to them by voting against your own best interests????

It reads like common sense. Being born with a fortune isn't the same as making a fortune.

And sure it would be great to leave any kids I might have with loads of money, but if they started thinking they were better or more successful than other kids because of that, they would be sorely mistaken.

No, I'm not jealous of his luck in being born to rich parents.

But I don't equate that luck with "business acumen".

If he prefers to have "fun" with his money, rather than being intelligent with it, that's his issue. Apparently, his skill at the "art of the deal" isn't all that great.

The companies that make up the S&P 500 are all businesses. And apparently they are all (or at least their overall average) run by better businessmen than Trump.

I always vote for what I believe are the best interests for the country and for me.

Both McCain and Romney had better resume's than BHO. All of the current GOP candidates have a better resume' than HC.

People unfortunately vote by their emotions based on the last political ad they see.

And, don't forget that both Bill and Hillary were born into wealth.

How do you see Bill Clinton as being born into wealth?

Hillary appears to have been borb into comfort, but not particularly wealth. But Bills mother left him with her parents so she could go to nursing school and support him after his father died. That's not what wealthy people usually do.

So does everyone else. People just disagree on what that is.

Apparently that other poster doesn't see it that way.
