What's the difference between creation theory and evolution theory?

Recommended Posts

It appears as though you base your beliefs and opinions on being against what "liberals believe" rather than on your own thought processes and/or deductions.

For someone to espouse the Phlogiston or Caloric or Ether theories would be more easily defensible than "Creation Theory."

The existence of people who adhere to such claptrap is certain proof of Taylor Caldwell's observation that "5% of the population think, 5% think they think and 90% would sooner die than think."

If anything, I suspect she was optimistic.

Wow. So much intellectual (and I use that word very loosely) dishonesty in that article it's hard to know where to begin. But I will start with: The source of reference material does matter.

Its great how he quotes Stephen Jay Gould of Harvard as saying "extremely rare". then claims that is Harvard speak for zero. such a sad stretch to get what you want out of a very clear statement.

if anyone would like to read a great book about this sort of thing from a truly great man, Dr Gould, read this.
1989. Wonderful Life: The Burgess Shale and the Nature of History, New York: W. W. Norton, ISBN 0-393-02705-8. 347 pp.

He is very funny and its not a dry read at all. I know its hard to believe that you will laugh reading about fossils but its true, i promise. It became clear to me the guy had a sense of humor when he appeared on the Simpsons as himself and made me laugh out loud. find that episode too. its worth it.

IMO, the former will guide through crisis while the latter only enhances crisis. To the believer is faith. To the remainder is mood altering substances.

Ah well, here's the thing about the ID people; I'm a (mad) computer scientist. One of the recent trends in computer learning is genetic programming, where you have traits in code and you put a bunch of programs in an environment with a selection criteria and the ones that perform above a certain threshold get to "breed" and pass their traits on to the next generation, possibly with random mutations.

If I particularly cared about the design of the universe, I really wouldn't want to exist in that kind of universe, because as a computer scientist I don't give two shits about any of the individual programs in any of the generations until the simulation arrives at "The One." One perfect individual according to my criteria will be saved. And it doesn't get a life of luxury, no. I dissect it and put the algorithm it arrived at to work doing whatever I was selecting for.

If you buy into the ID philosophy, the only reasonable conclusion you could arrive at, if you think about it, is that God is a guy like me, with a REALLY big simulation which will get shut down the minute whatever the selection criteria humanity is working toward is met to the standard that he's looking for. That would be really, really bad for everyone involved.
I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here?

Creationism guides you through crisis? How does that work?

And what is it you find disturbing about evolution?
Do you want to have an ideagasm?

First question is answered in my post. Answer to second question, no recognition of God as heavenly father.

Do you think it would be possible to arrive, today, at the same theory of creation without having been exposed to the writings or teachings of the bible?

Do you think it would be possible to arrive, today, at the same theory of evolution without having been exposed to to the writings or teachings of Darwin et al?

That's the difference between creation theory and evolution theory.

No it isn't. How does Creationism guide you through crisis?

Why should there be? It's a completely different topic. The owner's manual to your car doesn't recognise God as the heavenly father but knowing how to change your own oil isn't an enhancement of crises, is it?

ID has no selective criteria and no predictive ability. It is really just a God of the Gaps theology. Poor science and poor religion.

I used to be all messed up on drugs.
Now I am all messed up on the Lord...

Cheech and Chong's best explanation for the folks like Ron.

Living your life based on a book of fables that is few thousand years old is pretty weird.

Then again, a good summation of the human condition is -

Hairless apes are weird.

Are you still luxuriating in the benefits of Socialism, Ron?
Social Security and Medicare are the two most Socialistic programs adminstereed by the US Government. As you and your "tribe" are adamantly opposed to Socialism, one would expect you to sacrifice your wallet for your beliefs. Not doing so make you a hypocrite of the highest order.
I won't even start on the lack of ethics and morals of this behaviour.

Carry on...

How so much bullshit can be packed into such a small article is beyond me. This writer has obviously, painfully obviously, never sat through BIO 101 or MICRO 101. Shit like this is why I agree with Dawkins et, al. that creationists should never be debated.
Skydivers don't knock on Death's door. They ring the bell and runaway... It really pisses him off.

I see you are still overwhelmed with anger. In the counseling world anger and fear are dealt with as a psychological unit leading to a possibility of depression and guilt. In the body of Christ some believe that unresolved deep seated anger leads to the development of physiological disease such as cancer.

Seek Jesus Christ, seek wisdom, seek peace. May your weekend be better for you and yours.

So while we're on the subject, I'm curious about something. The Bible says God created man in His image, and Bible believers don't like Darwin's theory of evolution. The Bible also says God said "Let there be light" and there was light, but I've never heard a Bible believer raise an objection to Maxwell's theory of electromagnetism. What's the difference ?

Well, those people are delusional.

What is your approach to relieving deep seated anger?
