  1. Of super warm winters???? http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/IOTD/view.php?id=83032&src=fb While much of the continental United States endured several cold snaps in January 2014, record-breaking warmth gripped Alaska. Spring-like conditions set rivers rising and avalanches tumbling. This map depicts land surface temperature anomalies in Alaska for January 23–30, 2014. Based on data from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Terra satellite, the map shows how 2014 temperatures compared to the 2001–2010 average for the same week. Areas with warmer than average temperatures are shown in red; near-normal temperatures are white; and areas that were cooler than the base period are blue. Gray indicates oceans or areas where clouds blocked the satellite from collecting usable data. A persistent ridge of high pressure off the Pacific Coast fueled the warm spell, shunting warm air and rainstorms to Alaska instead of California, where they normally end up. The last half of January was one of the warmest winter periods in Alaska’s history, with temperatures as much as 40°F (22°C) above normal on some days in the central and western portions of the state, according to Weather Underground’s Christopher Bart. The all-time warmest January temperature ever observed in Alaska was tied on January 27 when the temperature peaked at 62°F (16.7°C) at Port Alsworth. Numerous other locations—including Nome, Denali Park Headquarters, Palmer, Homer, Alyseka, Seward, Talkeetna, and Kotzebue—all set January records. And the summer in the Arctic was colder than normal and the ice pack in Anarctica is 25 percent above normal this year, whats your point, climate and weather are two different things, LOL. Jan
  2. Touche, mon ami, but when you don't get what you want first time, change your search terms, like switching arguments in a court case when you flail, that'll be another $500, now were even, look forward to your comments after reading, but funny how you keep holding critical comments to standards neither "documentary" meets, LOL. Jan
  3. That's the second time you've said that in this thread. The first time, when asked for a credible, objective source to support your claim that the images of blood in the water were faked, you simply evaded. Another person then called you on that, but I didn't want to pile on. (The reason I asked the first time is because I did do a search for a supporting reference, and didn't find one; thus I inquired of you.) How about now? It's your allegation - do you or do you not have a source substantiating it that we can review for ourselves? If so, it would be helpful. How long did you look? All you have to do is search "Cove documentary is propaganda" and it pops up, took me 10 seconds, that'll be $500 mr lawyer, LOL, try this one for starters, cove is no more a "documentary" than reality TV is "real," all stage-manged, admitted by the directors and producers, what more do you want? If they called it docudrama instead of documentary I would have no problem but passing it as truth or your favorite words objective and credible and reliable is BS, it isn't, LOL. Then when you finish that one try this one, English version of Japanese site, then this one, dismiss as not objective if you want but nothing about Cove is objective, nothing, so funny you hold critics to higher standard than the propaganda makers, and if those arent enough, see this one, and here's one for Blackfish, same song, different dolphin, and one more from Seaworld, compare what it says to Blackfish, make your own decisions, but truth is cove and blackfish producers play people like fiddles and they fall for it, LOL. Jan
  4. you make many good points, my list was for perspective on Taiji, captive orcas a different subject, hard call, like zoos, not natural enviroments, captive, but they are like ambassaders who help people learn about them, be impressed and awed, maybe do something to help those still wild, where is the balance point? Not a good deal being in a pool instead of open ocean, eating dead fish instead of killing live ones, no friends or family (orcas very family-oriented), but seeing them at Sea World inspires people to know, understand, maybe help save them in the wild, hard hard Spock question, good of many v. good of few. u r right about soul searching, I do on this one, orcas are coollest creature on earth to me, I quit eating veal years ago when I learned how they treat the baby cows, still support captive orcas for reasons above but yes, we can do better, instead of swimming pools put some profits into building lagoons, longer pools so they can go fast, live better, maybe make a deal with the orcas for free-assocation shows where they come and go as they please, they are smarter than apes, maybe they would, something to think about, Blackfish and Cove are propaganda, that is my objection there, but isue of captive orca treatment is real and needs attention, so maybe Blackfish will help, just wish they were more honest. Jan
  5. My apologies, your opinion seemed obvious from your question, but my inferring that doesn't mean you implied it, funny thing is someone on this forum does that all the time to me and others, I dont like it either, my answer stands but not directed at you, sorry again. Jan
  6. It's not really the cameras, but the software behind it. Used for purposes of increasing efficiency (i.e. Checkpoint 2 is getting kinda long, let's move agents from 3 to open up other lines) I'm not really having an issue. Cameras have been watching us for a long time. Now, where the 'grey' area pops up is when they start logging and data-mining. When you park your car at the airport lot it records your plate. That's how they know that a car has been sitting there for six months and should probably be towed as abandoned. OK, no problem there. But recording the facial recognition specs on everyone who walks through the various areas of the airport, or keeping every license plate that picks up someone in baggage claim, I'm seeing a big problem with that. Retail stores have been using this type of stuff for a while. The cameras at target can recognize when someone falls, flag a customer that has been idle in a certain location and may need help finding an item, things like that. When they start texting me with a coupon because I've been standing in the cereal aisle clearly indecisive between Kelloggs and General Mills, well that's just plain creepy. Minority Report writ real, LOL. Jan
  7. Steady state or catastrophic.... When you look around the earth do you see geologic processes occurring slowly over long periods or are you actually observing something that was static for long periods puntuated with an event that happens rapidly and catastrophically in one area .. then in another area adjacent??? You postulate above a false premise. Sea Level has actually been much higher within the Pleistocene as well as 120 METERS lower. People blither on and on about sea ice( it floats.. it does not change sea level when it melts or freezes.. but its the ice tied up on land masses that are the greatest concern. Melting of those ice masses are accelerating and wishful thinking and fanciful dreams of its always been like this in your life... ( which it has not by the way) can not and will not stop the changes that have been set in motion. My my what eloquent ********, put this in your pipe and smoke, you need something to clear the cobwebs out of you overeducated brain, be sure to check out the author's bio, way more qualified than you, try as you might to dazzle us with your Pliostene brilliance, isn't that when the Neanderthals were around grunting at the weather, r u trying to "ape" them, LOL. Jan
  8. Drill down deeper and most of it is stage managed BS, just like The Cove about the dolphins in Japan, the directors dyed the water red to make it look horrible, no way a few hundred animals turn millions and millions of gallons of water red, people who read Japanese know the truth, there are blogs and websites that debunk the whole thing, LOL. Jan Could you help us out with some credible, reliable and objective sources, please? You're a lawyer, you know how to do research, find it yourself, helps to know Japanese cause USA media censor the facts, but WTF here's one credible, reliable objective source, sorry to add reality to another delusional thread but FYI fisherman kill 23,000 dolphins a year in Taiji, USA... According to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, the following number of animals were slaughtered in the US in 2008: cattle 34.4 million (avg/day 94,247) calves 956,600 (avg/day 2,621) hogs 116.5 million (avg/day 319,178) sheep and lambs 2.56 million (avg/day 7,014) chickens 9,075,261,000 (avg/day 24,863,729) turkeys 3,672,000 (avg/day 10,060) So 23,000 for a population of 120 million... barely a rounding error in USA stats, so unless you're a vegan, shut up about what animal food other people choose to eat, how come no one bags on the Chinese for eating millions of dogs and cats and the French for eating horses, LOL. Can't help it, here's some more credible, reliable, objective info for you, sorry not as pretty and sexy as dolphins (orcas are dolphins BTW), but truth. Jan
  9. Outstanding flying, I prefer this one. Jan
  10. And the counterpoint... http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2014/02/17/does-the-camel-study-really-prove-that-the-bible-is-inaccurate/ The "professor" gets his straw man head handed to him again, LOL, besides the camel part is like saying the 2012 USA election was totally illegitimate because some vote totals in Philladelphia were suspect, dumb on its face and arguable anyway, surely a "professor" can do better, LOL. Jan
  11. That would be a completely understandable mistake for the animal... but are you suggesting that it's okay to subject the animal to a situation where it might make such a mistake, and subject the trainer to a situation where the animal might make an understandable mistake and kill her is okay? Yes, the trainers are "subjected" to this terrible danger, they are forced to work there for slave wages and their families are held hostage to make sure they don't run away, get a grip, they choose to take the risk for the reward of working with one of the coolest creatures on earth, you sound like wuffo whining about the danger skydiving instructors are "subjected" to for crap money outing people in a situation where they might make and understandable mistake and kill themselves or somebody else, oh the horror the horror, enjoy your SUSHI, LOL. Jan

  13. Oh.. I dunno. I personally think that Jeanne D'Arc was kick-ass amazing. My middle name is Jeanne D'Arc so I feel extraordinarily qualified to have that opinion But this woman may have been more amazing http://badassoftheweek.com/index.cgi?id=27450552861 What argument can you present to make Jeanne's contribution to her society greater than Nancy Wake's? There is no argument, Jeanne was an illiterate 16-year-old peasant girl with no military training but she commanded armies and designed military campains, Nancy was a soldier of the line that fought in battles, Jeanne personally set in motion events that changed the balance of power in Europe, Nancy was a one soldier among millions who was brave and bad-ass and really F-ing lethal, Jeanne restored a king to his throne, Nancy killed a bunch of bad guys, Jeanne did what she did without personally killing anybody. There's more but forget comparisons, what a totally totally amazing truly bad-ass woman Nancy Wakes is, maybe she is the reason men don't want women fighting in wars, women are too bad-ass, I never heard of her before, thanks so much for sharing! Maybe you are a good egg after all, LOL. Jan
  14. Ah, yes the major points. And in between the major points is everything else. On this subject I'll just say that when Twain was writing the fashion in the field of history was to get definite answers about absolutely everything. Now it's recognised that if that's the priority then a lot of other potentially usefull information tends to get bulldozed when it doesn't fit. (BTW, if the trial and military records are so straightforward why did it take Twain 12 years to get his answers?) The internet was a lot slower at the end of the 19th century. Jan
