President's job speech?

Recommended Posts

What an idiotic move.

if it was unintentional - then he comes across as arrogant, idiotic, and self centered

if it was on purpose to create some kind of conflict with congress - then he comes across as idiotic only

no win here for whoever advised a last minute notice for this type of meeting

Actually - I think this is a big to do about nothing. Pres recommends a date (albeit a press release is a stupid way to do it prior to getting everything confirmed) - congress checked their calendar and recommended an alternate date - they both agreed on the final date.

no big deal

I'm not sure what the point is about the headlines using the phrase "backing down" is all about.

must be a slow news day.......

the real question should be whether any of us expect him to announce a real 'plan' vs just more fail 'stimulus' vs just making a pretty and impotent speech - again

...vs just blaming something or someone else is a given - it will happen

The President has never hesitated to announce a plan. His plans are usually planning to announce a plan on how to plan the plans and planning to plan out the plans for the planners who will plan out the planners and plan the planning, thus planning to plan a plan that the planners plan to plan out, resulting in a final plan to plan the initial steps of the plans.

Yep

More and bigger porkulus

Something he knows he can not get through (the bigger the better)
Then he will claim the R's would not let him fix the fucking mess he has exacerbated. (By a factor of at least 10)

Why does he have to give this speech before the Congress?

For the vast majority of Americans, it is the #1 issue.

I suppose if you're one of the fortunate ones that has managed to keep his job and aren't suffering any effects of the recession, then you might not care. That said, that vast majority of us do care.

Ya know, there actually is a form of government worse than socialism -- it's called apathy.

Yep, and now the lack of apathy is what is going to rip the libs world apart a year from Nov.

Of course, all of this could have been avoided if he gave his speech before he went on vacation. Now it's turning into a circus.

Seriously, when are we going to here about this plan to save the economy? Is just trying to give us a dramatic pause?

I know a lot of people that have been in a state of dramatic pause sense he took office.

This spring, instead of using good tv time picking his basketball brackets maybe he should have given a speech/plan about jobs. He would be six months ahead of the game.
That's what I call apathy.

But my wife won't let me start and internet porn site....

Seriously, if it were that easy we would be in a lot better shape. If the government just got out of our way, we could do it, but they have actively put up a bunch of road blocks that effect a lot of people.

High taxes and a health care bill that no one know the full cost of yet. Do you know that actual cost of that employee? Can you budget around that?

Lobbyist that get subsidies for the big companies. How can you compete financially when you don't have a much money to get started and the big companies, with there government bought advantages, can do the same thing for less?

And don't forget to pay the lawyers. They will find a way to put their hand in your pockets either with class action law suits, some kind of insurance, union or something....

It's just not an even playing field anymore for someone starting out.[:/]

The government family really can't do a lot to fix the economy except maybe get rid of bad laws/rules/policy. They can sure fuck with the economy pretty easy with bad laws/rules/policy.

A reasonable amount of laws/rules/policy need to be in place. But once in place then comes the slicing and dicing which screws with the CG of the economy/business.

To sum up. I will not depend on the government family to help, take care, fix, nurse, etc.--my life.

Does any of the lefties here really think that this is nothing more then a play to blame the Rep on not passing whatever he comes up with?

Whatever it is, it will cost....a lot. We don't have the money so no matter how you look at it, we will be spending money that we don't have to stimulate the economy and it DIDN'T work last time, it won't this time and we will be even more broke.

Today's Gallup Poll showed that 89% of the people who heard of this story don't give a shit. The rest are people who blog regularly in political forums and, for some reason, Gypsies.

Agreed. You and I may differ, though, on what constitutes bad laws/rules/policy, though. In general, I think government should set a level playing field that ensures that corporations can't profit by harming people. That means they have to clean up their waste instead of dumping it where people are stuck breathing/drinking it, they can't sell contaminated products that infect or poison people, and they have to be truthful in their advertising and contracts. If all corporations have to abide by the same ground rules, none are favored over others so there should be no distortion of the "CG of the economy/business".

OK, so next time you fly you'll insist the pilot have no interaction with ATC, them being "government family" and all. Everyone can just take off/land/fly wherever and it'll all work out I'm sure, all that "traffic control" is just "the man" taking away your freedom. Next time you have a steak, no doubt you'll go to your own personal basement lab and check it for mad cow/E. coli/Listeria etc. No need for those intrusive USDA inspectors, they just get in the way of business. Every individual consumer can just do their own testing, or maybe just decide to take a chance they won't end up with food poisoning.

Or, maybe you meant we should just get rid of government programs that help other people, but keep the ones you use?
