OHCHUTE 0 #1 November 10, 2012 Just saw the new James Bond movie. The color sucked. The editing was pretty good. There were a few lagging scenes but story line held your interest. From the rushes you thought there might have been some white/black love making but that never happened. You might have thought skydiving was involved from the title--not. Back comes the the PPK. I suppose S&W will sell many PPK's but the Polish P64 is much better, small and very accurate. The bad guy was hysterical and the most entertaining. Good flick worth watching but I'd wait for the video. The color on the big screen was just disappointing. It's worth seeing but I don't believe this is a classic. Not enough sex, but then again hollywood is probably trying to figure out just what type of sex needs to be shown due to audience persuasions. Sex was always a huge part of I. Flemming novels. The one scene between the main character and the protagonist, both males, is surely suggestive of one type of sex play never shown before in a Bond film that I can remember. Man/girl play was horribly diminished from earlier versions. Still worth seeing on video but don't waste your time seeing it on the big screen. I do regret finding out ahead of time that M does not survive. The relationship between M and Bond was one of my favorite aspects of the new series.I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. Nataly 38 #15 November 11, 2012 I have really enjoyed the Daniel Craig Bond movies, however a few things have disappointed me in this one: - Almost all the scenes with Craig show him from the waist up... I wanted to see that great ass, DAMMIT!!! - The sex scenes were merely suggestions that they were doing the deed - not steamy or visual enough for me... Again; I wanted to see that great ass, DAMMIT!!! - The motorcycle chases... Whenever the camera had them on the bike with the background behind them, it looked TOTALLY fake. Don't know what it looked like at the IMAX, but in our small theatre the editing seemed amateurish. Otherwise, some excellent acting, a fantastic villain, exciting scenes with beautiful scenery in the calmer moments... It also gives Craig's Bond a sort of origin story which is interesting as hell and explains a few things, yet doesn't really go against the grain of the canon. On the flip side, some of the dialogue and exposition are laughably bad -- even owns how bad it is in terms of screenwriting standards. Seems to come right out and say, "Yeah, we know all you screenwriters will mock this particular bit, but we don't care. We're writing the movie and you're in the theater watching it. Suck it. We're taking home a boatload of cash." Ultimately, I liked it. I try not to let the hype build up my expectations (having been burned so many times before!) but from the almost universally positive reviews I expected to enjoy it more. I thought the nods to past films were strained - for example, if we're now in a Bond universe without exploding pens, then I'd prefer we could pretend that the Aston Martin ejector seat and machine guns never existed. There seemed to be too little logic at work. I'm happy for a movie to be over-the-top, but it still has to hang together. In some cases exposition seemed to be missing, while on the other hand the plot device of the personalised Walther was a waste of time. Agreed with Nataly about the unconvincing green-screen work for the bike chase as well (The Bourne Legacy is another recent cuplrit) - I'd much rather see a stuntperson in long shot than a clearly faked closeup of the actor that actually destroys the illusion that they're in the thick of the action. I thought the final couple of scenes, and especially the closing lines, were incredibly weak, particularly compared with the brilliant ending of Casino Royale - still for my money the much more successful of the two. Now all that said, I was entertained. It was good to see so much of London (and a London I recognised rather than the usual tourist-friendly theme park version). Craig and Dench were fine, Bardem was great. I didn't recognise Albert Finney at all! And my movie companion loved it, so maybe I'm just being a curmudgeon.
