Non-Jumper "DAM" Comments . . .

Well, the below shows the folly of my own comment from the other day that people at large are getting more knowledgeable and accepting of BASE jumping.

One result of the Dam jump video making the rounds on the net is all the comments it generated among non-jumpers . . . Warning, this will make you mad, and it will make you realize, in a general way, what non-jumpers think of us. But, it will also make you see that all we really have is each other . . .

This first section is comments made by college students. The second section is off one of those video sites.

I didn't know that BASE jumping made me gay though. I do see my buddies in a different light now but never made the connection. Also I am neither Jewish nor Canadian. Is this one of those new requirements made by the commies in the higher ups? Also I am glad I can now defy physics and am also a jerkface moron. I already knew the last two but for the most part this is a very informative article that really openned my eyes. I guess we will just have to go on with our lives making our structure jumps.

It is unfortunately quite human to think something is stupid, when you don’t understand and would never do it yourself. It’s a matter of where does the line go for what is stupid or not. Ask an average non-jumper-Joe about skydiving, and he may think that it is a stupid thing to do. If you ask a skydiver about base jumping, he may think the same thing. Even if you ask a base jumper about for example base jumping and deploying in fog, he may think that is stupid. If you don’t understand why and would never do it yourself, it’s easily called... stupid...

If you chose to not just think something is stupid and actually say so, is a matter of manners, internet anonymity, and so on ...

Some of those comments gave me a good laugh though..., impossible to take seriously.

I could pretty much care less what certain people think about BASE jumping.

One such group is a bunch of college kids who think life is all about drinking and doing drugs. We all know life is only partially about those things.

The second group, and the group whose opinion of BASE jumping I value absolutely the least, is the ones who surf gore sites getting their jollies off of the suffering of others.

How ignorant some people are about the sport really puts into perspective how much I've learned about BASE inthe last seven or eight years.

I've been involved in a couple discussions along those lines on other forums. One on a MINI Cooper forum that I frequent, and one on a forum for an online game that I played a couple years ago.
