Not to derail this thread, but....Got to admit, the US system of measurement is off the wall...Feet, inches, yards, gallons... but don't the Europeans still drink "pints"... why don't hey call it a .2 liter or something? Fear is the thief of dreams.....

Stetson and Embry-Riddle are just minutes from Deland...UCF is 50 minutes away. All high quality schools...not to mention year round skydiving. Fear is the thief of dreams.....

As a newbie myself, I have narrowed it down (through research and talking with my instructors) to about a 1:1 main AND reserve (out the door weight)... a container you are comfortable in, RSL and an AAD.... talk with your instructors and DZ to have them keep their eyes open. From my research...most people think their first rig will be the one they keep forever... which is usually not true. You have time... IMHO buy a new rig if you have plenty of $$$. If not, keep looking for a used one and have it checked by a trusted certified rigger before you buy...just my 2 cents. Fear is the thief of dreams.....

Did my first jump in Aug on my birthday with no intent to do AFF...long story short, started AFF in Sept and I'm now at almost 30 jumps with no intent of slowing down. There is no other sport with this type of learning curve and that makes you feel so alive. Wait til you start selling all your other hobby stuff to purchase a rig and pay for jumps! Warning... it can be hard rationalizing your initial purchases to your significant other... Start hiding your cash now! lol Fear is the thief of dreams.....

Ditto...I have been looking everyday for quite a while and I don't think the prices change much at all. Infact, IMHO if you have a good wholesaler you can get a pretty good deal on new stuff. I know a guy that got a great deal by posting a WTB in the classifieds. Guess that may be the way to go if you want used gear. Fear is the thief of dreams.....

Ditto...remember you are in this for FUN. I had the same problem in AFF...it was not the fear of getting injured ... it was the fear of not succeeding in the eyes of my instructors. I did level 3 three times! I finally said "screw this"...I'm here because I dig every part of this sport. Who cares how well I do it. If I have to do level 3 ten times, I'm not giving up. Long story short, I ended up skipping level 6 because I aced it all the rest of the levels. I really love this sport.... IMHO the best is yet to come. Fear is the thief of dreams.....
