  1. Number of times I've needed a hook-knife=1 Number of times I've needed an AAD-0 I carry 2 knifes-one on each leg as the one that comes on the harness standard I can't reach with my right hand. If you need a knife, something is wrong in the first place, and you can't be guaranteed the ONE hand you can reach it with on the ground is going to be free enough to get it. If given a choice of only one of the 2 items, I'd take a hook-knife every time. Of course, if you ever need either, you'd kick yourself for not having it. -Tony My O.C.D. has me chasing a dream my A.D.D. won't let me catch.

  3. I think I did it. I'm just not used to lower the quality setting. Sorry the scan isn't better. In the original slide you can see someone walking across one of the parking lots. -Tony My O.C.D. has me chasing a dream my A.D.D. won't let me catch.
  4. Hey man, nice shots! Good to see some thinking put into the photos. I shot a 100-way with a 200mm lens years ago, but I can't figure out how to make the attachment under 60kb to upload the attachment here without making the photo the size of a postage stamp. Again, nice shots.-Tony My O.C.D. has me chasing a dream my A.D.D. won't let me catch.

  8. I use that lens a lot. The Sept. 2003 Parachutist cover with the 4-way womens team was shot with that lens. Its a good lens. -Tony My O.C.D. has me chasing a dream my A.D.D. won't let me catch.

  11. Once again, the ONE thing that really matters in skydiving-landing parachutes- people balk the most about learning. People pay $100 to jump with a fucking tennisball yet, won't do anything to help the situation of canopy problems. All that crap we do in freefall is a bonus and people pay loads of money for coaches to help with that. I guess this arguement is just like guns-you can have my parachute when you pry it from my cold dead hands. Right?!-Tony My O.C.D. has me chasing a dream my A.D.D. won't let me catch.

  13. I don't send ANY photo to parachutist or skydiving for the money. Sure, even $150 is OK to get, its about another photo in the magazine. Now, outside of the industry I have turned down money WAY more than that beause it was still too low a price for what I had and what they wanted it for. Part of the problem is that people take way too little for what they are giving. I'm still learning what photos are really worth, but I can say that I don't "give" them away. Sometimes $500 is still "giving" them away. If you shoot tandem videos mostly, then get offered $300 for a photo, it seems like a lot-and it is. It still may however not be enough. I used to give away photos, then I realized that photo credit doesn't pay the mortgage. Next time someone wants you to give them photos, ask them this. Are they on the phone with you for free? Is the publisher doing their book (or whatever) for free, is the printer doing it for free? Distributors? Barn's & Noble? Why should you-the skydiving photographer- the one with the most specialized, dangerous part in the whole process be the one to work for free. Just because you have the images on the computer, or in your slide box, and all you have to do now is hand them over, there is still so much more that went into getting those shots. STOP thinking in skydiving prices. Those prices are $25-$50 per jump. START thinking in prices that reflect photography in general. Just my 2 cents. -Tony My O.C.D. has me chasing a dream my A.D.D. won't let me catch.

  15. It seems that there are 2 issues here. The video being part of the team for composition purposes, and for rejump purposes. For compositoin purposes, there should never be a situation where if the video gets hurt, the 4-ways meet is done. Lets be realistic about alternates doing the video. Its just not practical most of the time to train them to do that. Again, I keep going back to its about the 4-way. For rejump purposes, no matter who is doing video, however they ended up on the team, (yes the team should pick, where they pick from doesn't matter) re-jumps shouldn't happen because of camera busts. As light as 2 cameras are, its easy to take 2 on a jump. I don't know why I'm even trying to make a point. What do I care anymore. I've been fired from my last team. From my wife to be exact! Maybe now I can gripper fly 4-way this time around! What if I do 4-way and drop grips on an inter? Will we get a re-jump because I am a cameraman?????!!!!! :)HA-HA--Tony My O.C.D. has me chasing a dream my A.D.D. won't let me catch.
  16. A pool doesn't mean you HAVE to pick up someone at the meet. A pool and rejumps don't need to go hand in hand. Can you separate WHO does your video and HOW they do it? A bust is a bust. YOU pick the video. If you pick them a year in advance, or a day in advance. The 4-way still picks them. Its up to the 4-way to get the video to the judges. If they do a poor job finding a qualified video for an important meet, then that is their fault. Sometimes video bust happen. Its rare from the more experienced ones, but it does. Give the teams an option for not having to put their alternate in a video slot, when they possible have never done video in the first place. Its about 4-way. It should be made as easy on them as possible to do their meet. The rule is, if you exit, you accept the conditions for the jump. Spots, clouds and lens fog are part of that. If you exit with a camera you just picked up, you have accepted the conditions to do so. No rejumps. -- If you have ever watched a live pro football game, they have TV time-outs. The players just stand around and make money while the tv and sponsors make more. The commercials are over, then the game gets going again. Football isn't about football and sports. Its a big business that just happens to have a game running through it as part of it. Try to remember that 4-way competitors are still about 4-way. Sure some of them get sponsors, some free stuff, some free jumps, but at the end of the day, this all only makes it a little bit cheaper. Let the 4-way do their 10 jumps, and let them have the choice as to who is going to tape it for the judges. Most I think will still bring their own camera. Who gets medals is another topic I'd say. -Tony My O.C.D. has me chasing a dream my A.D.D. won't let me catch.
  17. "Remember, the objective of a videographer is to capture video evidence for the judges, nothing more." -To me, that sums it all up. This is about 4-way. Not 4-way plus how good is a cameraman from their country. 4-way. The judges need to see how the 4-way does in freefall. If a team wants to wait until they get to the meet to get a camera, then there is probably a good reason for it. Its taking a big chance, but still, they need to know that the judges will see EVERY POINT. The video person is the most, and least important part of the process. The most, in that without them the judges wouldn't see anything. The least, in that they are the easiest to replace, and still not take a way from your point average. Please tell me how this is wrong. -Tony My O.C.D. has me chasing a dream my A.D.D. won't let me catch.

  19. Since I started jumping, (1988) about 500 people have died skydiving. I read a thread earlier about how many jumps did you do this year. Right now, from 79 people who did less than 100 jumps last year, every 3 or 4 jumps you did, somone died. Accidents happen. Bad decisions happen. They will not go away. The attitude of "it won't happen to me" is BAD. The attitude should be "it could happen to me, but I'm going to do everything to not let it" and be ready for it always. Shit sneaks up you quick. Everyone makes bad decisions at some point. Everyone has some part of their dive they could improve on. I went for my approach yesterday, and had to bring it around on toggles instead of front risers because I was too low for front risers. That decision was made in about 2 seconds, and I figured- so I don't get to swoop on this one. Lucky for me, I'll maybe get to on the next. Think about that from 2 angles. 1) I made the right decision not to do a front riser turn and did it on my toggles and aborted my swoop. or 2) I screwed up originally by being too low in the first place. Always allow yourself the opportunity for the next jump. Sometimes that means you don't get to do the monster swoop you were hoping for. Just my opinion, but what do I know?-Tony My O.C.D. has me chasing a dream my A.D.D. won't let me catch.

  22. I am looking for a guy from the Keys boogie. His name is Al. He flies a Samuari that is blue and green and wears white & yellow freefly pants with green stripes. If you know him please have him email me as I never got to show him the photo I did of him at sunset friday night under canopy. Thanks-Tony Hathaway My O.C.D. has me chasing a dream my A.D.D. won't let me catch.
  23. It was wierd using the different heights of steps for exiting. It took some getting used without much time to get used to it. But for me, I only did 6 jumps with my team from the otter this year and a few hundred jumps with them from a porter so I was just happy to be able to move around freely! -Tony My O.C.D. has me chasing a dream my A.D.D. won't let me catch.
  24. I use my Peavey Wolfgang standard mostly, the nicest guitar I've ever played. sometimes my les paul studio. All through a marshall 2x12 65 watt combo amp. A nice alverez acoustic/electric. My little hohner steinberger copy for travel, and my old charvel from the 80's that I refuse to get rid of. I just sold off some of my collection that included an Ibanez JPM, Fender USA strat +, PRS CE 24 mapel top, Kramer baretta, and my Marshall 100watt head. Some yamaha keyboard. And whatever drums I can get my hands on.-Tony My O.C.D. has me chasing a dream my A.D.D. won't let me catch.
  25. Metallica is like Pearl Jam, they are living off of their name and music that once was amazing, and now they still manage to be popular. I haven't heard anything from either band in years that I liked. I used to like both very much. Only an opinion. Again, I see Petrucci mentioned. Yes not very popular but he is sooooo good. -Tony My O.C.D. has me chasing a dream my A.D.D. won't let me catch.
