  1. Yup, there are a lot of Democrats who will never put Buttigeig or Sanders in the White House. They simply won't show up to vote. I was referring to the implication from the other post I quoted that everyone would vote the same party for both Senate and President.
  2. You're assuming everyone will vote the same party regardless. There are plenty of us out there who will vote for the person we like for president, then the person we like for senate/house. However, the reason I don't see the senate losing (m)any seats is that the ones who really need to go, who up for election this year, represent states that aren't likely to boot them out. And all the old-party, self-respecting Republican senators resigned before the mid-terms.
  3. I emailed my senator, Marco Rubio, and told him the same thing. The only personal response I got was from his auto-generated form letter thanking me for writing. And we all know how he justified his vote. Coward.
  4. However, in the Clinton case, the White House cooperated with House subpoenas. The president himself testified. In the Trump case, the Senate would not have had to worry about witnesses had the legal subpoenas been honored. Bottom line: the administration thumbed its nose at the oversight authority of Congress, ignored legally binding summons to answer questions and participate in the investigation. And the Senate Republicans allowed it. This is the very definition of a Constitutional crisis.
  5. Bernie Sanders. But then Vice President Klobichar has to name HUD secretary Buttigeig as her VP when she has to assume the presidency upon Sanders' timely (albeit sad) passing.
  6. And this is who so many are okay with occupying the office of the PRESIDENT. "Heard it somewhere and it seemed right to him." He is in the office that has all the resources at his disposal. ALL of them. Anything he needs to learn/understand, there is SOMEONE (or many someones) who will appear in short order to explain it ad nauseum and ad infinitum. Answer all the questions until the matter is understood. "seemed right" is not the guesswork that the occupant of the most powerful position in the country (and most of the world) should just be spouting off. Let's not even get started on the comment that he doesn't have good judgement. [facepalm] All the accomplishments supporters want to point to? I'll admit, some things enacted in this administration have been good. Getting started on prison reform, for example. Great first step in that process. However, no one has convinced me that THIS guy is the only person in the country who could have signed those bills, or negotiated anything. In a different perspective: his incredibly short list of accomplishments are vastly overshadowed by this incredibly MASSIVE pile of damages.
  7. TriGirl here. Marine Corps Officer. Liberal, atheist, feminist. Wanna draw?
  8. I think that's still wishful thinking at this point. From the article: and ends with, Similarly, I have an app called "Vote Spotter." It posts issues that have been voted on by both chambers, and allows you to enter whether you would vote for or against the bill as described. I also track how my elected representatives vote on each issue, and allows for emails to my members of congress on each issue (or in general) right from the app. It also posts polls on occasion. The current once asking whether the president should be removed from office stands at 61% against. Of course, you have to consider the sampling -- my dad (a Fox Entertainment Channel die-hard who lives his secluded retired life in the forests of northern Michigan) introduced me to it. Those kinds of polls are definitely not random sampling. However, on issues that seem to pass or fail generally along party lines, you'll find the agree/disagree at about the same split. Bills that pass more definitively regardless of party tend to have similar reaction from users.
  9. Also see Dr. Joel Furhman's "Eat to Live." The information in the book was quite interesting, but the recipes in the back (and yes, I also bought the full cookbook) were quite time- and ingredient-intensive. Many also didn't taste good enough to make all the work worth it. I do regularly go back to some, such as the taco salad. Although I add a bit of shredded cheese to mine. Almost two years ago now I tried Whole30. That did the trick for me -- more energy, excellent sleep, weight loss, lower blood pressure and cholesterol. I even started to lose the ridges in my fingernails. It's a lot of fresh fruits and veggies, no dairy, but plenty of lean meat and fish (as well as eggs). I don't find I really eat a lot of meat, but I'm definitely not close to fully plant-based. I do use milk/cream in cooking, and still enjoy more moderate servings of cheese. On the Whole30 side, I still clarify my own butter (unless I'm baking, and then it all goes out the window anyway!). I have permanently reduced my intake of sugar, grains and alcohol from that experience. I've picked up some great snacking habits as well (lots of hard-boiled eggs, dates, clementines, almonds and raw veggies as snacks instead of chips, crackers or protein bars). Hmm... maybe it's time to do another 30 days. It's been awhile!
  10. As a judge, I loved working competitions (especially Collegiates) at Lake Wales. Betty was always so attentive to the judges as well as the competitors, because she wanted everyone to have a great time and a great meet. So sad to hear this news. I'm sure the crew at Lake Wales is really hurting, but I am also sure they are supporting each other.
  11. extremely high crime rate, extremely low police presence. 70-80% of women in PNG have been sexually assaulted in their lifetime. It's a very sad state of affairs when you have to worry about being raped while at the police station reporting a rape. Right in Port Moresby a couple of months ago, a guy walked into the international airport and attacked a woman with a machete. Just started hacking at her right there (partner with whom he had argued before she was attempting to board a flight). Carjackings are a huge concern, and the national past time is forming a mob. Outside of the major cities, people are still beaten and killed for suspected sorcery.
  12. Referencing the bold: I don't know -- these are the people with whom he chooses to surround himself. Even after being accused/shown to have done this "really ugly stuff," he still has them on his payroll. In my mind, that makes him unfit (or at least wholly unqualified) for the office.

Here is a more appropriate representation!
  14. Well, I can drive around on my own, but it isn't recommended to go for a walk outside of guarded/gated facilities.

I always equate the naming of this mythical "source" with this character from several of the Star Trek series. Claims to be all-knowing, all-seeing, but really just ignorant but arrogant, and likes to play games with what people will believe and do.
  16. Did you see the flag? I'm in Papua New Guinea for a two-year posting.
  17. Anyone want to start a pool, or give "over/under" for how long this dedicated public servant stays in his position?
  18. Blue ones all around! Have fun. I've been on the ground for 5 years now. Will likely not jump again until I move home again in 2021.
  19. Maybe it’s because it was CNN reporting their own settlement, and describing the whole scene? They also reported, once it became known, what had been missing from earlier stories, giving Mr Sandmann’s actions a fair look overall. ”Deplorables” won’t consider that they might be wrong, and never change the narrative.
  20. Sort of like one I saw on base a decade & a half ago: ”I found Jesus! (he was in my trunk when I got back from Tijuana)”
  21. Also killed was a member of a Shia Iraqi militia group (bolding mine): Perhaps Soleimani was meeting with al-Muhandis? Perhaps they were in coordination? Perhaps Souleimani was going to the airport to fly back to Iran? A few more questions need to be answered about this targeted strike. Interestingly, the Pentagon statement said it was a targeted strike, specifically aiming for Soleimani, at the behest of the president.
  22. Agreed. Just wish someone else would point out the disconnect publicly. Although I do applaud their attempt simply to ignore the train of thought, since those sentiments aren't really getting a lot of traction (unless I'm missing something -- I am out in the rural South Pacific!)
  23. To be fair, there is a HUGE difference in the security posture at Embassy Baghdad from Consulate Benghazi. They've had in place for years the required security measures/personnel/evac plans -- even before the example at Benghazi.
  24. Highly doubt it. She's a political appointee, with some history with the GOP: https://pl.usembassy.gov/our-relationship/our-ambassador/
