  1. I agree - drop the double standards and bullshit about the Iraq war. It is not about the UN, it is not about National threats (to the UK/USA), and its not about terrorism! I don't know what it is about though I heard a hypothosis once that the west needs to trial weapons developments about every 10 years, and to "train" new generals - i.e. you can't have a head of military who is not a veteran - this viewpoint makes the most sense to me at this point in time Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  2. I know that it is immaterial now - but in the UK the prime minister has full authority to declare war - without consulting parliament. The prime minister is given this authority by Royal Decree, I am told this is to enable "rapid" responce type situations to be handled. It was Blairs choice to consult parliament, apparantly it is one of the first time the debate has happened prior to action starting. However this has cost Blair dearly as it was the largest parliamentary rebellion in modern politics (whatever period that spans?). There is an element of propaganda in terms of his support for war as opinion polls suggest a swinging of opinion - however a british friend told me that Brits will always pull together during a war 100% no arguing and then afterwards they will scalp Tony. So the opinion polls showing support for war in the UK - reflects support for the troops not the principle. This is backed up by observations here at work. 3. it seems that there is no real record on BBC website of the remark I reffered to. However the UK parliament was promised that if feasible a vote prior to war starting in Iraq would be held... so take note about 3/4 of the way down this article on bbc's website http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/2845867.stm Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  4. according to the BBC this morning UN were pulling out various support staff - oil for food, and the UN no fly zone enforcement guys but not the inspectors. The comment was that it would be anticipated that if the inspectors were pulled bombing would be close on their heels - but that they hadn't been pulled yet. 5. Reviewing an entire nations "history" on the events of a single day - events that could conceivably be carried out by a handfull of crackpots stikes me as extremely dangerous. I sure as hell hope that this is a minority viewpoint over there. I live in the UK as my country re-wrote history after independance (Zimbabwe) and look where it got them (literally I was in school and history started at 1980!). It seems the USA is going to experience a rise in terrorism over the forseable future (war or no war) and I do not think that any sane person would wish that on anyone - so don't misinterpret this - I am stating this as my viewpoint. You only have to go to London and see how a city with no public trashcans on the street and CCTV everywhere is impacted by terrorism - even years into an alledged "cease fire" - terrorists only give up when they get their own way - not when they are crushed. 6. I am only repeating what the BBC said - and the exact phrase used by the Brit politician was "vomit inducing proposals like this" - It seemed to imply general re-construction - but then I do realise to ? the media. 7. The BBC article that announced in essence that only American companies were invited to tender the rebuilding of Iraq - mentioned that Cheney resigned from Halliburton to in order to run for his political office. The only american companies bidding has really pissed off some middle ground Brits though - so more Brits are anti-war as a result

    I'm scared

I think that the perception of the US as a rogue state is possibly a little harsh - but I do believe that the vast majority of people here in Europe do not trust the US and see the US as paranoid. There is deep unease about the war here in the UK and only some 10% of the british population support a war without a 2nd UN resolution. I am not sure what moral grounds the US/UK will have to stand on regarding international law when already both are saying they don't care about the UN process. Personally I am really freaked by the image portrayed by Bush that US are the strongest so THEREFORE the US are right - that is not necessarily true. I struggle to buy into the argument about Iraq posing a DIRECT threat to the US/UK. Nowhere has Iraq been tied up with Al Queda - in fact the UK admits there are active cells here - you gonna bomb us/our should Blair do that? If the US and UK go to war then terrorism WILL increase and one only has to look at Northern Ireland and Isreal to see how hard it is to "crush" terrorism. 9. I am also in the UK and not happy about the Blair/Bush duo - not many ppl here are. What gets to me from the UK government is bomb the shit out of Iraq for dragging their heels - but reward the IRA (current power sharing deal). Loads of double standards involved. Roundie landing

I think it is a good idea to jump a round for fun. I don't believe any square can beat the absolute absence of sound that you experience under a round? Also for all the hard landing stuff if you use back risers to flare it is pretty easy to stand it up/soft landing. I would hapily land a T-10/C9 again but I am only 63 kilos maybe its different for bigger people? Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  11. I recently got an email from Zim skydiver and it is $4000 per jump - which should be about US$4 on the blackmarket. But altitude used to be 8000ft AGL max. I guess its a case of whether you have the balls to go to the country now Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  12. Yes but very few are skydiving related!!! I don't have x-rays but damaged a bone in my foot dodging powerlines on landing and even now 8yrs later it gets bloody sore at times. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.

    some funnies

PROOF THAT THE WORLD IS NUTS ! ! In Lebanon, men are legally allowed to have sex with animals, but the animals must be female. Having sexual relations with a male animal is punishable by death. (Like THAT makes sense.) *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* In Bahrain, a male doctor may legally examine a woman's genitals, but is prohibited from looking directly at them during the examination. He may only see their reflection in a mirror. (Do they look different reversed?) *~*~**~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Muslims are banned from looking at the genitals of a corpse. This also applies to undertakers; the sex organs of the deceased must be covered with a brick or piece of wood at all times. (A brick??) *~*~**~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* The penalty for masturbation in Indonesia is decapitation. (Much worse than "going blind!") *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* There are men in Guam whose full-time job is to travel the countryside and deflower young virgins, who pay them for the privilege of having sex for the first time... Reason: under Guam law, it is expressly forbidden for virgins to marry. (Let's just think for a minute; is there any job anywhere else in the world that even comes close to this?) *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* In Hong Kong, a betrayed wife is legally allowed to kill her adulterous husband, but may only do so with her bare hands. The husband's lover, on the other hand, may be killed in any manner desired. (Ah! Justice!) *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Topless saleswomen are legal in Liverpool, England - but only in Tropical fish stores. (But of course!) *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* In Cali, Colombia, a woman may only have sex with her husband, and the first time this happens, her mother must be in the room to witness the act. (Makes one shudder at the thought.) *~*~*~*~**~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~**~*~* In Santa Cruz, Bolivia, it is illegal for a man to have sex with a woman and her daughter at the same time. (I presume this was a big enough problem that they had to pass this law?) *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* In Maryland, it is illegal to sell condoms from vending machines with one exception: prophylactics may be dispensed from a vending machine only "in places where alcoholic beverages are sold for consumption on the premises." (Is this a great country or what? Not as great as Guam!) *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Banging your head against a wall uses 150 calories an hour. (Who volunteers for this stuff?) *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Humans and dolphins are the only species that have sex for pleasure. (Is that why Flipper was always smiling?) *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* The strongest muscle in the body is the tongue. (Hummm....I won't touch THAT one!) *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* The ant can lift 50 times its own weight, can pull 30 times its own weight and always falls over on its right side when intoxicated. (From drinking little bottles of...? -- did the govt. pay for this research??) *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Butterflies taste with their feet. (Ah, geez) *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* An ostrich's eye is bigger than it's brain. (I know some people like that.) *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Starfish don't have brains. (I know some people like that too) *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* And, the best for last..... Turtles can breathe through their butts. (Do you think they have bad breath?) I am a slave!

The more to it is that there is a chance 50% currently that we will have funding soon (i.e the VC are in discussions etc etc). Other than that I guess its just that engineers are like lemmings - no brains just follow the daily routine Get up - go to work - go home - repeat. We all bitch about it and only one guy has walked so far in a month (the poor sod was taken on 6wks ago ) Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  16. Hi really struggled on s/l as due to finances (I was 16) I could only jump once a month which meant that I did god knows how many static lines. However I really enjoyed jumping and regardless of the stigma attached to not "skydiving" but just falling out the door, I had fun, I started learning to spot - and generally getting fun for ME from the jumping. When I eventually got to freefall I still couldn't progress still money issues and then a friend suggested I leapt from 8K for my 5/10 sec delays rather than the 4/5K (on a round under canopy by 5/6K!!!) It really helped as it de-stressed the dives for me as with no cypress AAD's I found the stress really high knowing that I had x seconds and the extra 3/4K gave me more time (in my head at least) Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.

    I am a slave!

I think that is the decision - been onto law sites here and old CEO dickhead is borderline commiting fraud. And I have confirmed that my rights rule and his idea of work your notice is all fucked up. Again I really don't like being blackmailed but the live by the sword die by it rule tends to be true so I like to be "nice" - just nice to blow steam hear so I don't do something to stupid (after all this job does pay circa 30% above norm - when the pay ) Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.

    I am a slave!

Well thank god for dz.com cause I am going fucking loopy here at work. Few weeks ago I posted that my company was going bust, well we haven't been paid for August and every few days the "deadline" slides further to the right for shutting the doors. Anyways so yesterday evening I decided enuff and spoke to the CEO and said I wanted out as we have now been told not to expect payment for September either. Well the little fucking creeps answer was fine hand in your resignation and because you are key staff we require you to work your fucking notice!! So does working(well sitting @dz.com for 8hrs actually) against your will for free constitute anything but slavery?? I don't like leaving company's with bad vibes but Jeez this takes the cake. 21. Yes Tony Blair in his argument has a few times mentioned that Brit and US planes are almost daily fired upon by Iraq and that they return fire etc. I also worked with an Iraqi(he's been here for 20yrs) and it is amazing just how much death the US and UK rain down on Iraq - I believe that the figure of child deaths from "gulf war syndrome" type effects is in the order of 5000 per year (he showed me a BBC article to that effect). Personally I don't have a problem with the US going to war if they want to but it does piss me off the way the UK is using 9/11 to promote new laws/wars etc when in reality it had F all to do with them. 22. A student on a T-10 landed right on top of a barbed wire fence - standup landing. He was fine till he tried to step off - he wasn't hurt but got a big fright as it flipped him on his back - he's just lucky it didn't choose to come up between his legs! It was really funny to watch though. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.

Unfortunately I am one of the later bunch of losers :-( The real sad thing is 7yrs later I am still not sure it was "really" worth it. 25. nice to know not everyone watches TV - we don't have a TV licence and ppl don't believe us.
