most accurate translations of the Tanakh and Koran?
Southern_Man replied to skittles_of_SDC's topic in Speakers Corner
I cannot help you with the Koran, as I do not know enough about it. For the Tanakh, there are not all that many choices and all of them are based on the Masoretic Text. I believe the most popular is the one by the Jewish Publication Society. Most accurate is a very hard thing to define, since translation is both an art and a science. The best bet, if you really want to learn, is to study Hebrew. A lot of the published editions have both a Hebrew and an English version in them. Since Hebrew is still the accepted temple language (like Latin before Vatican II). there is less reliance on translated editions in general. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?" -

Newb question: When laying it on the belt to go through the scanner, which side would you have facing down? The back (pin) side? Or the front (handle) side? I'd think either could hae negative consequences if something got snagged. A gear bag would probably provide some protection against getting snagged? "What if there were no hypothetical questions?" -

Senate to vote on health care bill unconstitutionality!
Southern_Man replied to bodypilot90's topic in Speakers Corner
No, you can just not register it, or turn in your plates if the car is no longer going to be driven on public streets. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?" -

Southern_Man replied to bodypilot90's topic in Speakers Corner
In Virginia (which I guess is a somewhat similar law, not sure what particular insurance coverage is required w/ registration), you have to certify that the vehicle is insured when you first register it. I don't know if they check that or not. However, you have to maintain insurance and any insurance company is required to report to the state when you drop coverage. If you drop coverage while it is still registered you are subjected to fines and penalties. So, there is an enforcement mechanism separate from you actually driving on a public road. Why would it need registration if it never left private property? Would there be a fine or penalty for not having it registered? How would that be monitored or enforced? "What if there were no hypothetical questions?" -

I would not date anybody who has a strong religious identity at this point in my life. Just not a good match for me at this point in my life, I've learned by trial and error and dated women w/ a variety of religious affiliations and strength of convictions.
