  1. I think it was pretty much vertical for the first week when we ranked about team 3,500, and dropping 50 places every few hours. Now we're dropping in 1s and 2s so I'd guess we'll plateau at about 170-180. UNLESS more people come on board. POST WHORES UNITE ON FOLDING!! Rich M

Windows works even better if you never turn your computer on Rich M
  3. I was talking to some of our reserve packers this weekend and they said we have had a couple of new Javelins in for assembly that had been so poorly manufactured they had to be sent back for corrective work. One was sent back again after inspection. Has anyone else been hearing of problems with Javelins? Rich M
  4. Puleaze. I got WAY more where that came from.... _Am 5th! BWAHAHAHAHA Bring it on! Rich M

  7. Interesting, as their customer service is utterly fantastic and their products rock; reading between the lines I would say theat means they aren't investing in new developments, which is a shame. Rich M
  8. Hahaha, built another box from bits and should soon overtake AndyMan for 5th Me, addicted? I can give it up anytime Rich M
  9. Merriam-Webster.com says thus of "learnt": Main Entry: learnt chiefly British past and past participle of LEARN Rich M
  10. 2 buttons on the remote handset work in the same way. RTF paper thingy Rich M
  11. Found an easy way to do this. Get Firedaemon Lite and download the console version of folding. Move the Folding .exe to any sensible directory (e.g. /Program Files/Folding/). Install Firedaemon, run it and use it to create a new service; point the working directory to the Folding directory, point the executable to the Folding .exe; set parameters to "-local" (without the quotes); and under the settings tab set priority to IDLE; then click INSTALL and it's done. Remember to remove the Win version of Folding from automatic startup if you have set that. See the attached pics for my setup. Rich M
  12. If you want to you can set a preference for Folding WUs in Configure, Advanced. Rich M
  13. Gratuitous bump time... Woohoo, in the top 500 teams, pretty good considering we were in the top 3,000 teams only a week ago. Everytime I look we have jumped another 20 or 30 places. Personally I'm struggling to stay in the top 10 of our team, but then I don't own the 512 cpu Cray monster that I think CAJones must have in his garage I've managed to find enough bits to build another half decent machine which works nicely as I can now have a dedicated video editing box and a general working box, but much more importantly I can do more WUs!! I would like to run this as a service on WinXP but don't know how. Can anyone help? Rich M
  14. Go here and talk to Steve Swain or one of the 2k guys. Their helmets are great, I've been jumping a 2k with my PC100 for a couple of years and have had no problems with it. Rich M
  15. Adobe have run some comparisons of dual cpu MAC G4 vs. single cpu Intel P4 3.06MHz using Premiere, After Effect, Illustrator and Photoshop, available here. In summary the PC won by a large amount. This may help people who are on the verge of buying a system now for video editing; it is not intended to start a platform flame war. Although I can somehow sense it coming ... Rich M
  16. That depends. Are you comfortable with the idea of landing an elliptical 120 sq ft canopy in a bad area (small, congested, and/or off dz)? Did you fly that Hornet using all available control inputs (toggles, rear risers, front risers)? Can you flat turn and flare turn under that Hornet 135? If you answer no to any of those questions, you may be better off buying something equivalent to what you've been jumping, both in size and aggressiveness. There's a lot to be said for learning to swoop under a canopy that's big enough to allow you room to screw up and still walk back to the packing area. You might want to take a look at this before you make your decision (the website is down at the moment, but it will likely be up by Monday). Cathy Travers, one of our full time instructors at Headcorn (now retired) had to land in a busy high street in Thailand under a Stiletto 120 after a bad spot. She managed to put it down in the direction of the traffic between a lorry and a car. The car kindly stopped rather than run her over. She did break a heel however It's the most extreme case of tough landing I've heard of although I'll bet there are more. It didn't stop me learning to swoop though Rich M
  17. 7 years ago one of my AFF instructors in the UK always did the neatest propack, used the 2 mouthlocks and then freestowed the rest; figure-of-8ing the lines into the bottom of the container and placing the bag on top. When I asked he said he had done this for over 1500 jumps with no problems. I have lost touch but I believe he is still jumping somewhere. He is called Rhino, but I doubt it's the same Rhino who posts here. Rich M
  18. Ahh, in that case do the following until the problem goes away: Logoff and logon Restart Poweroff and poweron Poweroff and go down the dz, then poweron when you get back Poweroff, sell the box, go down the dz, come back, buy another box, poweron Power off, sell the box, divorce the wife, sell the house, buy an RV, go down the dz, buy 10,000 jump tickets, fuck the computer you didn't need one anyway Rich M
  19. If you stick the XP Pro CD in and run setup again there is a repair option - worth a try mebbe. Are you logged on with admionistrator priviledges? Maybe non admins can't do anything in taskmgr. You will notice I'm guessing here Rich M
  20. Win98? Looks like something has corrupted/overwritten some DLLs. Difficult to fix without a reinstall unless anyone else knows different. Rich M
  21. She jumps a Stiletto 89. 89 Hectares? I wonder how much that cost her Rich M
  22. You should reclaim all the stolen canopies as they're probably all nicked; and then dismantle his van into its components pieces - not steal any of it just take it apart and leave it for him to reassemble in the mroning. The bastard deserves it. Rich M
  23. What is format is your source? Are you MAC or PC, and what version of Windows and Premiere? If your source is on a CD you can just mp3 or wav it and import to premiere using winamp or musicmatch or mediaplayer or somesuch. If you have a line-in on your computer did your sound card come with recording software, most do. Rich M

  25. British National 4 way Comp last year. Lovely weather, no wind, perfect swooping weather. In front of 200 of Britains latest and greatest I screamed across the landing area howling like a fool, came to the end of the landing area still doing at least 30mph, and into the field with a 5ft high maturing pea crop. Legs stopped, face ate dirt I rose to a round of applause and gave a bow Rich M
