  1. I know but I won't stop trying to educate. If only 1 in 100 listen, it's worth the effort. Rich M
  2. I disagree, Pete T already knows whether he gave his credit card number to become a member of a kiddie porn site because it turns him on on not. He is already either guilty or innocent. All that remains is for the law to establish which. And if the law finds him innocent/guilty it doesn't necessarily mean that he is. Only Pete T knows the reality. Rich M
  3. As a father of a beautiful 9 year old daughter living in a town in which a 10 year old girl was raped last year by a man they only caught last month who lives about 5 miles away, no I am not f****** disturbed by it, I actively and aggressively support it. These people are a menace, we should concern ourselves with the victims of these crimes and their rights to not be abused (girls in the photos, the 10 year in my town) rather than the pervs rights to avoid detection. Sorry for the expressive comments, but I feel very strongly about this. Rich M
  4. When you've hit rock bottom an feel it may be better to be dead, but at least it can't get any worse - and then it gets a shitload worse. Rich M
  5. The BPA have some rules in the UK. I'll need to check but I'm pretty sure .75:1 is max loading for 1st timers. Rich M
  6. Did the cameraman swoop under you? If not low person has right of way. Try to start planning the landing as soon as you have finished checking your canopy and stowed your slider, etc. You should be trying to achieve the best vertical seperation between you and the canopies above and below you. If you are under a large canopy and last out you can leave your brakes stowed for a while, allowing the others to land while you float around, but make sure you unstow your brakes by about 2000ft so you can deal with any issues that may result in a cutaway at that point. From your description it sounds like you could have established that you were going to be landing close to each other quite early on. If that happens plan to land elsewhere, and fly that plan as early as possible. A long walk back is way better than a ride in an ambulance Hope this helps Rich M
  7. I'm no expert on Nero. but I do know that MiniDV format is a 5:1 compression of the actual data received by the CCD. True picture quality is 1Gb per minute of footage. MiniDV is 1Gb per 5 mins of footage. You can jam nearly 60 mins (?) of SVCD quality footage onto a 650Mb CDR? That's a lot of loss. Having said that I have seen some excellent SVCD results so it is possible. I suspect the Nero MPEG2 codec is not very efficient. I have used TMPGENC to generate DVD compliant MPEG2 streams with excellent quality, but thats writing to a 4.3Gb medium. I also use Dolby AC3 for quality compressed audio. Rich M
  8. What makes you think he will not return to complacency after a while? What then is the definition of a competant rigger - one who gets it right 98% of the time but has got away with it because he does most of the repacks and no-one has ever died as a results of a mistake? Should we wait for someone to die as a direct result of a reserve repack mistake before taking action? Rich M
  9. As a jumper I would want to know. I would carry on jumping but I certainly wouldn't use that reserve packer again. I ensure that the dzo/s&ta knew about it as well. When it comes down to it the reserve is last chance. I'm sorry but there is no excuse in my book for reserve packing errors, it is my last chance to live. If you can't be exceptionally thorough don't do the job. Rich M
  10. Going for the first hook caused cypres fire? I smell beer Rich M
  11. I loved the Who but I gotta admit I don't believe him. Guilty as a puppy sitting by a pile of poo. Rich M
  12. Freekflyguy - thats excellent footage of a line over mal. If there's any way I can get a copy of the captured source that I can use in teaching I would appreciate it. If possible email me at [email protected] thanks Nicely dealt with too Rich M
  13. A normal CDR will be fine if your DVD player genuinely supports SVCD. Rich M
  14. Both of which validate and reinforce the concerns of most of the posters - you are not experienced enough to be jumping this canopy. I wish you well and I hope you prove to be an exception rather than a statistic. But you have stacked the odds against yourself, with the gambit of your life. Good luck, you'll likely need it. Rich M
  15. Thats good news Dave, I wish you well with the future Rich M
  16. Mine are being sitted now too :) Rich M
  17. First raft jump but done from Burner's balloon 6500ft above Eloy in January - believed to be the only raft jump from a balloon so far. Rich M
  18. Ditto. I've been in the sport 6 years, and have only bought one container new, everything else is second hand, and it holds a reasonable resale value too. Rich M
  19. Easy enough -- it won't let you. **puts away the peg leg and eyepatch** Or just get the hacked corporate SP1 Rich M
  20. I demo'd a Vengence at Eloy a year ago at about 1.5 and it was also all over the place on opening, I figured at the time it was just the canopy, but I think it might be me. I'm jumping a crossfire at 1.5 now and it does the same thing. I think they are just much more susceptible to input. My aim for the start of the season is to work on keeping my body level by looking at the horizon as a key and working on controlling (keeping still/minimum input) my shoulder and hip position during opening. 21. Is it my round again? Rich M
  22. I had my first by proxy. The first student I ever radio talked down as an unassisted instructor that is! 1st timer, he flew a good pattern but the winds were light and he was going to land deep. He didn't do any S turns as I requested as he only pulled the toggles on the student manta 280 down about an inch, he ignore my requests to pull them all the way down. He did follow my instructions to execute a 90 left turn just prior to hitting the very prickly hedge - I was going to land him crosswind, and then his own mind took over and he turned 90 right straight back into the hedge. I could have died as I felt the telemeters burning into my back Then I remembered I had another 6 1st timers above him all relying on me. He was fine although a bit scratched up. It took me over an hour to get that canopy out of the hedge, and it cost me beers, hehe Rich M
