  1. Hehe, yeah, in hindsight maybe I shouldn't have posted that Rich M
  2. All based on stats collected in last 24 hours. Why thank you, er, I think Rich M
  3. If nothing else changes we should make 100th in 10 days; 75th in 50days; 50th in 663 days; and finally reach and hold 45th, just knocking the Uni of Alabama into 46th in about 211.5 years Rich M

Snow is forecast for today (Sunday). Ack, stupid UK. Rich M

Yesterday (Friday) at Headcorn I had a whole load of students kitted up and ready to walk to the plane, the winds were legal at 14 knots on the ground. Then while I was just finishing off the flight line checks an AFF student landed and telemeters realised that although the wind was 14 knots 0 AGL, it was about 25 knots at 100ft. So we stood the student load down and that was it for the rest of their day. I left this morning with winds gusting to 28 knots Rich M
  6. Heres a bigger version of one of those. Rich M
  7. Thats what i thought until i used partition magic and now cannot access the drive looks like i am gonna have some work to do to get it back What problems are you having - I have used Partition Magic lots of times. Some common problems: 1) Ensure that the system partition maintains the same drive letter else it won't boot. 2) Ensure that the boot partition is set to ACTIVE (this option is hidden in the ADVANCED submenu in PM). 8. Hugs and cuddles. Mourn, we'll be sad for your loss, but be at peace, you know it was the nicest thing to do. Rich M
  9. Why do I smell a complete reinstall coming up? I had to switch to a 2 partition dual boot setup because Premiere is so damn flakey. On the video editing partition I have Premiere, Photoshop, TMPGEnc, CD & DVD writing software and a few other AV programs. On my main partition I have everything else. I found if I tried to have Premiere on my main partition it just wouldn't work properly. It sounds to me like you are doing everything about right, as when you play the timeline and you see it in the camera LCD. I hope CAJ or one of the other pro's can offer a fix, but why can I smell a complete reinstall? Rich M
  10. Ok so I have no job and way too much time, but I've noticed that in the top 100 the highest team number is team 13854 or something. Assuming they give out the numbers starting at 1 then we are doing exceptionally well to be kicking position 144. Over the last 24 hours I've noticed that our score increased by 3000, and the score of the team in 100th place increased by only 1500. We have to grow our score by approx 20,000 to break into the top 100. But I have no doubt that we will kick through the 100th position in about 3 weeks; and we shall then be moseying past quite a few more teams after that. If I get really bored I might load some stats into excel and work out what position we are should end up at. Btw, I need a job in the UK, anyone? Rich M
  11. Ditto Phree and CAJ. I have Premiere 6.5 on Windows XP SP1 attached to a PC100. After installing the Microsoft "Windows XP fails to enumerate devices in 1394 bus" hot fix allowing my system to see my camera; and remembering to turn off overclocking so the PCI bus is running at the correct speed; Premiere controls and captures from my PC100 fine. But to record back to the camera I play the timeline in Premiere (with a lead in) and at the relevant point manually press Record on the camera. Rich M
  12. Your profile says you have 2 jumps - at this stage you wait the instructed amount of time (our students count off 5 seconds) and if after this time you don't have a good parachute above your head, then you have a malfunctioning parachute and you execute your emergency procedures. After several hundred jumps and possibly some real reserve rides you may feel that you have the skills and experience to assess a high stress malfunction situation in more detail. But not at this stage in your skydiving career. It's way too easy to spend 10 seconds wondering if thats a pilot-chute hesitation or whatever - by which time it's may be too late for the reserve to open and save your ass. Rich M
  13. I would like to emphasis KNOWLEDGE. It's entirely possible to completely fry a significant investment if you screw up. Done carefully, it can work very well. Done halfhazzardly, better go warm up yourr credit card. _Am Hehe, yeah, I figured if someone can hack reading Hexus for a month they will probably be fine overclocking - for most it would fry the brains in 5 mins max . You know you've made it when you find review on fans interesting, and you take a magnifying glass to computer fairs and ask to read the tiny codes printed on cpu's and memory chips . And yes, that is me Rich M
  14. Overclocking is a breeze - with the right equipment and knowledge. The best place to learn more is Hexus Forums - read them for a while until you start to understand what is going on - feel free to email me [email protected]/PM me if you want explanations or pointers. But after reading Hexus for a while you may (should?) decide overclocking is far too sad . Rich M
  15. I agree and further investigation today has shown I may be guilty of false rumour mongering - my apologies if this turns out to be the case. It seems that one of our regular jumpers who is currently on extended holiday in Sebastion, took delivery of a new Javelin out there. Upon assembly inspection some flaws were "allegedly" discovered and the rig returned for attention. It turns out this is a convoluted information path and so highly susceptible to the information becoming badly mangled. The person who inspected the rig is due back in the UK in May and I shall have a chat with him then. Until that time where the above information can be validated or otherwise, I suggest we assume the Javelin was actually fine. Can this thread be locked please. Again my apologies to all, especially Sunpath. Rich M
  16. ROFLMAO!! You can't say that, oh wait... you didn't Rich M
  17. Puleaze. I got WAY more where that came from.... Grr, everytime I get close you dump another couple of WUs in and pull away - how many completed WUs do you have stacked up just to tease me with I just overclocked that AMD over there from 1522MHz to 1743MHz, this AMD will be upped from its existing 1594MHz, and I have a heatsink coming which I think is all I need for another folding platform looking at my box of spares. I think might need help - mental help Rich M
  18. "...looked weird in any way..." you mean like folding up in full drive? The problem with flying a damaged canopy is that there is no way to tell when it will fail further. A tear focuses stress at the crux of the tear. Given that the canopy had just had a massive structural failure, it is impossible to say when that might become catastrophic, the canopy might have shredded itself in flight without enough height left to deploy your reserve and save your life. You made the wrong decision - you had plenty of altitude, you knew it was not right at 2500ft - in this case you should have cut away and deployed your reserve above 2000ft. I am pleased that you lived and I certainly hope that doesn't happen again to you, Thanks for sharing the experience so we can discuss it and learn from it. Rich M
  19. Jay, you might want to talk to a master rigger about the tolerances that are considered acceptable by canopy manufacturers. The reason no two "identical" canopies fly alike is because they are slightly different, due to acceptable amounts of error in cutting and stitching. Rich M
  20. Weel said Wendy. Fudd - a flat turn, or a short series of flat S-turns would have put you in your chosen landing area, but an off landing in a small area in difficult wind conditions is not the time to be learning to do flat turns - you made a survivable decision, well done. Now, learning from that, now practise flat turns in good conditions on a nice large safe landing area (hopefully this describes your normal dz ). Do them up high first checking the alti before and after the manouvre to see how much height is lost. At altitude do 180 flat turns until you know your canopy so well they are reall flat. Now you know how, practise different amounts of turn and see how much height is lost. Then when you have a sound understanding of the flight characteristics of your hornet in slow flat turns bring the start altitude down - be careful here, bring it down slowly. Slow flat turns can save you, theres no point injuring yourself to learn them Talk to experienced parachutists at your dz and get their ideas, also search here for "flat turns" for a wealth of information, particularly search for posts by BillVon. And get coaching if you can. Have fun, be careful Rich M
