  1. The manual that comes with slinks is very particular and very clear about their fitment. If you can't be arsed to read the manual, have someone who can, do the mod. RTFM. Rich M
  2. What do you have in mind? Are there two canopies you would like an opinion on? My understanding is that Xaos and Velocity are the current swoop kings taking most of the places on the PST Tour. If you want to know swoop characteristics find out about these canopies. Rich M
  3. Agreed, although it seems with the pack I describe there is little chance of a horseshoe from loose bridle, although that still leaves pin knock outs. Having said all this I cant remember hearing of a horseshoe mal. Rich M
  4. Maybe I'm not visualizing this right, but isnt this EXACTLY how to increase the odds of a horseshoe is you pull on the briddle... wont this pc packing method create a hard bunch and hard / impossible pull with a pulled briddle? Maybe it's my misunderstanding. I thought that if air catches under whatever exposed bridle there is, it can work out the remaining bridle within the pc bundle until there is enough out to create enough drag to pull the pin and consequently horseshoe. Packing the bridle around the back of the pc bundle prevents the stowed bridle from escaping. Am I missing something? Why would you pull the bridle and not the hackey on a BOC system? Rich M
  5. The statistics from skydivingfatalities.net for 2001 in USA (sadly, the web site is no longer kept up to date) show that 1 death occurs for every 187,000 skydives. That can put some sensible perspective on the dangers of the sport for whuffo's who think 1 in 10 jumps kills someone. It's much safer than people think. Statistics also show that over 30% of people die while practising the dangerous activity of sleeping - I am raising the issue with the government and want sleeping banned as it is obviously a zillion times more dangerous than drinking or smoking Rich M
  6. This one shows where the gas really came from Rich M
  7. Brown Ale and Advocarr in the same glass. It wuz disgusting. In the middle of a game of pub golf Rich M
  8. But if you pack your pc with your bridle exiting the pc bundle at the opposite end to the hackey and then coming up the side of the pc bundle (aka common freeflyer way) the full bridle out horsehoe mal is avoided anyway, unless I've missed something. Apparently leaving only cons and no pros according to Bills list. Thanks for posting it RMurray. Rich M
  9. I pyscho pack and don't roll the nose, dont have the slider sticking out and dont roll the tail on my xfire1 and the end cells are fine. Mind you the end cell closures dont happen when I propack either. There are two other pack variations that may help you (I'm assuming you are struggling to get a slippery canopy in the bag): A mix of psycho and pro packing - propack and lay canopy on floor as per propack. Kneel on the canopy 6-8 inches up from the slider, grasp the pc bridle connector point, lift it and the canopy to your body, then roll the canopy down sleeping bag style toward your knees. Remove knees and place roll on "1st fold". You end up with a canopy that looks like teh number 2 from the side, only more curly at the top. Bag it. You may need a bridle extension for this. Propack and lay on floor as above. Kneel halfway up the canopy and put the 2nd S fold in, bag that S fold then drive the 1st S fold into the bag afterwards. Both of these ease packing sliPDery canopies Rich M
  10. Why would you want to? Wayhey Dave, nice one dude. I love despatching 1st time S/L outta the door for the same reason. It rocks Rich M
  11. That was Stuart Piper in 7th. It was a great meet in great weather, very fun to watch. Sooooooooooon Rich M
  12. Agree 100% with CrazyIvan. There is a panel or printing on the main canopy that will tell you it's dom, its model and size, and the serial number. Linesets won't be a problem, just see your local rigger. Different lines wear out at different rates. Kevlar wears faster than Spectra. The brake lines wear faster than the centre B & C Lines. They don't normally snap, but the outer lines take friction heat as the slider comes down, and they get shorter than the onner lines. This changes the shape of canopy, and new linesets are often fitted as a mix of maintenance for wearing lines, and to retrim the canopy back to original spec. If you haven't already had a rigger a check this kit out, please do so before you jump it - I'd invest in a reserve repack too to ensure it is all sound inside. Have fun. Rich M

  15. Gonna play devils advocate here. Would you feel that it was your responsibility to judge someones abilty to fly the kit they want to buy though you? Bearing in mind they might know shit? Rich M
  16. I'm sorry, but there is no excuse for substandard workmanship on a piece of life saving equipment. Plenty of non riggers wouldn't have even seen this. I had to look at the other brake toggle for a few minutes before I figured out what the problem was. Rich M
  17. Only once in 250 jumps. I am very careful about keeping a symmetrical and level body position during the initial inflation, watching the horizon as I deploy to ensure my shoulders are level and feeling my hips to try to keep them level. I also make sure I tighten my legs straps evenly. Then once I am brought vertical I reach up and pull the rear risers apart evenly to keep from twisting up as the canopy turns during final inflation when the centre cells inflate. Rich M
  18. I have 250 jumps on my XFire 1 119 which was on the recall list and has had the line trim mod. It never opens on heading. The outer 3 cells on each side inflate before the centre 3 cells, and then the two halves of the canopy fight for dominance. Which ever side wins is the way it'll turn as it finishes inflation. I've lessened the amount of off heading by switching to psycho packing and being much more aware of my body position during inflation. Rich M
  19. Hey, congrats and good luck Rich M
  20. Mine matches, and some more of my work units have finally been added. I'm movin' on uuuuup, to the top, to a deeeeelux apartment, in the sky hihihi.... A mate of mine is Sub, he doesn't post here and doesn't skydive (silly sod) :) Rich M
  21. DSL is quoted at a rate of Kilo Bits per Second. 8 bits make a byte. So 512 KBits/second = 64Kb/second. 50Kb is good from one server. Compression can improve the apparent speed, but 512 hardware is limited to 512 over the copper coming to your house. Rich M
  22. A huge hug and a big snuggle comin g your way ((((((((((((((((snug))))))))))))))))) Rich M
