  1. I saw your vid a while ago...haha. Those first AFF are great, nothing like that first leap on your own though. When I did my AFF in 82 it was a totaly new concept...in Canada anyways. Bob Wright used me as a test dummy, he was great but after I was cleared for FF etc no other DZs would let me jump until I got my A.
  2. Disturbing stuff. http://www.rollingstone.com/politic...l-team-20110327 In a break with protocol, the soldiers also took photographs of themselves celebrating their kill. In the photos, Morlock grins and gives a thumbs-up sign as he poses with Mudin’s body. Note that the boy’s right pinky finger appears to have been severed. Staff Sgt. Calvin Gibbs reportedly used a pair of razor-sharp medic’s shears to cut off the finger, which he presented to Holmes as a trophy for killing his first Afghan.
  3. Regardless of whether it seemed to e flying ok, I'd have chopped. Chances are better IMO.
  4. Honestly ...has to be one of the the dumbest things I've ever heard. Why rush through something that is life or death? Did they actually put seals on them? I hope not but if so, would you feel comfortable jumping one? Cool to meet Kittinger though.
  5. Yes, I also remember SC as being faster than Mr.D. Mr. Douglas was a fine plane though. Last I heard it was flying jumpers in Tennessee. That was a while back though.
  6. Amazing that she'll be 70 years old next year. Makes me feel young...or old, not sure.
  7. Nice to know she's still flying, many more hours yet I'm sure. I used to load organize on her back in the late 80's Zhills, when it was Jerry Bird. Is this it now? http://www.flickr.com/photos/thechickenworks/3869820128/in/photostream/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/thechickenworks/3869038927/
  8. I use a 5 blade, takes me 49 seconds. And if I shave in the shower I always miss bits.
  9. My friend wanted to learn taxidermy. He's a Newfie. They said it was good to start with pigeons so he went out to buy some. The guy who was selling them was cool till my friend said "yeah, I'm gonna kill them and stuff them" lol, the guy took them back and told him to Foff. He found another guy and told him he wanted to train them. He then killed them with his car exhaust and tried to stuff them. What a mess. lol. Parasites everywhere on his living room table, I was there, and when he was done it just looked like a crooked dead bird on a stand.
  10. Just a day or so ago he was testing in his F1 car in Spain. What a life, surprised Mercedes let him do that when the season starts in a month.
  11. You can't sail directly down wind faster than the wind no matter how hard you try, on any surface.
  12. I miss the old days too. I did my first jump in 82, not that early I guess. Back in the days when lots of people at my DZ were flying strato-rocks (5 cells). I had a 252 parafoil. It was pretty impossible to hurt yourself landing that unless it was too windy. Lol, a spider slider. My container was a RW Wonderhog...with a 3 ring release..ooooh. Glad to have the memories. I think I remember you Bill, what was your home DZ?
  13. Onboard video of landing a ski jump 64mph http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/blogs/world-of-sport/article/32403/ do-able IMO. Do a ski base, maybe secure the front of the skis somehow,
  14. Shawshank. I was wondering how Andy got the poster back up on the wall of his cell after crawling head first into the tunnel. If only the top was attached it would have made more sense.
  15. some guy on youtube is trying, building some kind of ramp i think. his username there is wingsuitflying http://www.youtube.com/user/wingsuitflying?email=share_youtube_user
  16. Good idea, stick to your 170 till you get more experience. 40 jumps is nothing. Move to better canopy when you have your B and over 100 jumps.
  17. hah, me too. I've been living in the caribbean for the last 10 yrs, kiting and windsurfing...kind of similar in many ways..but free. No DZ here anyways, but skies call recently.
  18. Hope you have a great safe event. I'd love to visit there some day but I get the impression that I couldn't afford it.
  19. Great footage and flying. The suits look really good, not sure about the huge logos though. I'd have loved to have seen some start to finish footage of the jumps, not edited so much. Inspiring stuff.
  20. I was thinking about this the other day while watching the ski jumping. I think one of those guys could probably do it now with a combination of skis and a slow wingsuit ans a perfect long steep landing area. Won't be too long before it happens.
  21. Meh,never replied to my email inquiry. Used to be a great place, not so sure now.
  22. I have a Honda CR250R. its awesome, 2 strokes FTW. It came with a license plate and is street legal here. (no I don't live in Canada anymore)
  23. I did my first AFF with Bob back in '83. He was the only one offering AFFs. I had done 7 static lines before that but wanted to do a freefall. I think I was the first AFF student in Canada. Bob was very safety conscious and professional. 25 years later and he is still teaching AFF, says something about his school. I would be willing to bet all of the thousands of students he has trained over the years would recomend his center.
  24. I wonder the same thing, I stopped jumping in '99 after being very hardcore for 10 years. I think if I stayed in the sport I might be dead now. I did lose several close friends in those 10 years. I am thinking about getting back into it again though because it is awesome and I miss the sky.
  25. After 4 friends went in over a period of 18 months, I decided to stop jumping. Its been 10 years since my last jump but I have really been thinking about taking it up again. After reading the fatality reports I am a bit concerned about all the fully functioning canopy deaths these days. Collisions and swoop deaths were very rare when I did my last jumps. I was using the original Sabre 150 back then but there wasn't many people swooping yet. I may go to Zhills this easter, I used to load organize there and hopefully still know some people.
