  1. If you really really really need to archive anything (and I can't stress the "really really really" part enough) you can look into RAID arrays. They have become quite cheap lately, and so have the drives needed to run them. RAID 1 if you need something stored safely, RAID 5 if you really really need something stored safely. These things are called NAS (Network Attachable Storage) and come in many shapes and sizes (and price ranges). When one of your archive HDDs die (provided you really really need data on it) you will be glad you have RAID. I understand the need for conformity. 2. When I went to tunnel the coaches there wore Sorz. I tried them on and they fit my nugget quite well (I tried on lots of goggles that day and Sorz was just about the only model that was good for me). Find yourself a store with stock and salesman in good mood and try to find the ones that will protect your eyes from the wind while not causing you too much pain :) I understand the need for conformity. 3. So if one is looking for high(er) end camera that can also be used in skydiving (and scuba and night and ...), this one is thumbs up? I understand the need for conformity. Without a concise set of rules to follow we would probably all have to resort to common sense. -David Thorne
  4. http://www.cookiecomposites.com/shop/helmets/81/index.htm Does this mean it is out in shops? Why no flat top... I know I can get liquid lock for it, but I kinda wanted other mount for the top. 5. Really? I'm asking because when I used my Minolta 7D to shoot bursts it would do quite fast bursts until buffer was full. Then camera had to write all that stuff to CF card and burst rate dropped a lot (by a factor of 5 or so). I always thought that was because buffer read/write speeds were faster than CF read/write speeds... I understand the need for conformity. 6. 1st: I have not seen or used GFX ever. I use neptune 2. 2nd: From what I've read and heard from people GFX is definitely not a winner... it is very close to the end of the pack. Neptune and L&B products are at least one level above it. Parasport's customer service is also not something you'd read about on this forums a lot, unlike alti-2 or L&B. But I hear neox is pretty good... I understand the need for conformity. Without a concise set of rules to follow we would probably all have to resort to common sense. -David Thorne
  7. I hear GoPro HD is kickass for its pricetag... nothing phenomenal, doesn't break the bank and there is a lot of buzz around it on these forums. I understand the need for conformity. Without a concise set of rules to follow we would probably all have to resort to common sense. -David Thorne
  8. Altitrack is something you put on your hand and look at it to see how high you are. It also remembers your jumps quite well. N3 is something you put close to your ear and it will scream at pre-set altitudes. You can also stick it on your hand and look at it to see how high you are. It also remembers your jumps quite well. So... do you want an altimeter (which also remembers your jumps) or do you want a beeper (which also remembers your jumps and you can look at it if you wanted to)? 9. Big... wall... of... text... can't... read.... aaarrrgghhhh!!!! I understand the need for conformity. Without a concise set of rules to follow we would probably all have to resort to common sense. -David Thorne
  10. Which hand warmers are you talking about here? And why would they need oxygen to work? Most hand warmers I've seen were either simple water-bottles (although not filled with water but same principle) or worked on some exotic freeze/thaw cycle where crystallisation would release lots of heat. Neither use oxygen to run. Or pressure. I understand the need for conformity. Without a concise set of rules to follow we would probably all have to resort to common sense. -David Thorne
  11. There is a slight chance that an AAD unit like cypress or vigil consist of more than just one microprocessor. I understand the need for conformity. Without a concise set of rules to follow we would probably all have to resort to common sense. -David Thorne
  12. That and a powerboat ride (he didn't specify if females of opposite sex are included but one would assume they are)!! I understand the need for conformity. Without a concise set of rules to follow we would probably all have to resort to common sense. -David Thorne

  14. I think you should try skydiving first. Most people like so you'll probably like it too. Once you're off student status find a wingsuit coach/instructor and start working on skills needed to fly wingsuit (wont happen for some time but you'll be going in the right way). Somewhere on that path you'll need to start BASE jumping... provided you find someone to teach you and you don't die, few hundred jumps later (skydive and BASE each) you should be flying like a pro. As for your (very specific) questions (1-6): By the time you're ready to jump BASE wingsuit these questions will seem really silly I understand the need for conformity. 15. I find this text really helpfull (never did calibrate lenses and adjust autofocus myself). On this page you will find link to LensAlign (broken link but still a link
  16. That was a major fuck up... never try to make jokes while working What I meant was getting email reply on Sunday (afternoon and all). Not Wednesday. That is all. 17. You guys really need to start taking weekends off... getting email reply on Wednesday is juts scary.
  18. Yeah? When'd ya meet him? Or examine him? Because as far as I know GW Bush was dangerously insane... WTF do you think this is? WW1? When was the last time you have seen 150 mile long battle front since WW1? So what you're saying is that NK have the ability to amass millions of troops (virtually undetected or detected far too late to stop them) and at the same time does not have ability to move them south unless existing bridges stay intact? I'm pretty sure the dangerously insane man Kim knows about the explosives and has enough brain power in his country to plan around this obstacle... Worked like a charm in Vietnam, innit? Just try to google up number of civilian deaths from landmines in areas where there is no war for a long time. Now try to imagine this is not in some shitty 3rd world country where Americans were stationed to "defend freedom and democracy" but in your own backyard. And your kid/friend/spouse steps on one and is blown to smithereens (if you're lucky, most likely they'll be screaming on the ground with legs missing and millertime24 shouting at them: "It was your dumbass fault for going in! Now find your way back out or die! Didn't you see the sign??!?". Does that make it worth it? I understand the need for conformity. 21. I've read mostly bad review on Skytronic GFX (same mfg as Neoxs) so I tend to keep away from Parasport's audibles. Don't know anyone using Neoxs tho, so they might have improved since GFX days. 22. 32GB SSD (1.8", ZIF) should run around 100 USD (thats 4 times what CX100 has). 16GB should be even less. If some one already has HDD camcorder this should not be expensive, especially if you're gonna buy equipment to keep you alive at north cole. All it should take is to open camcorder, take out old HDD and plug in SSD. They come in same form factor, same socket, but with benefit of SSD not being sensitive to temperatures and air pressure changes. If it doesn't work you can put old HDD back and sell/use SSD somewhere else. I understand the need for conformity. 23. My guess is you could use someone your size (for fitting) to get proper harness. Then use reputable rigger to make sure everything is in good shape and you're all set! 24. Considering that SSD price is down to manageable level, is it possible to swap HDD for SSD? This would also allow skydivers to use those cameras in freefall... EDIT: Apparently it works... found this (a bit old but if it worked back then...): " It Works!!! Got the package today. TEN MINUTES LATER, I was recording onto the SSD! It is very simple to do the swap. Four screws are all that stands between you and the SR11/SR12 HDD. Remove the cover, gently pull the ZIF cable out of its socket, and then gently slide it into the new SSD as far as it will go. Once it is slid all the way, it is in. You would think that you need to do more to get it to stay in, but you don't. Boot up the camera and see a c:13:02 error flashing. Format the drive and then power down the camera (because the error will still be flashing). Upon reboot, NO ERRORS! This is a go guys! If you want an SSD camcorder, it can be done!" 25. I'm not reading anything new here... creating one photo from multiples has been practice to do those contrasty scenes where you either got a burn out or a dark photo. Shoot at different exposures and spend few minutes at computer and problem solved. Same could be applied to all "revolutionary" statements in this text. But if this will be built in (and working properly) then at least more people will use it... I understand the need for conformity. Without a concise set of rules to follow we would probably all have to resort to common sense. -David Thorne
