  1. I'm with FireCat - depends on how I lost that awareness. If it turns out that my mind just wasn't on the skydive, then I need to be in some other sport. CZ
  2. Can't really. They're mutually exclusive. How come most of the "Big Bang" theorists still believe in the Judeo-Christian god then? Last I heard, Steven Hawking and the late Carl Sagan both held to the belief that a god could have started the whole thing. CZ

  6. 17 - Mid-winter in Colorado, I lied about my age, paid $60, and this whacked out guy that was operating a dropzone illegally (from what I understand now) on this little chicken farm hooked me up for my first static line, I think on a dash-1B. I heard years later that he ended up doing some time in jail - thank god for rebels! CZ

  16. Theres nothing casual about dying!! The term is used to minimize the horror of all the death that comes with war. Freeflir29 is right, although I think he was probably joking. There is a utility realized by the use of force - even the State Department recognizes that in some cases it is the tool needed, which is why the military is sometimes referred to as the strong arm of diplomacy. The people who are required to execute such acts of force are usually pretty average folks, and in order to reduce the horrors of war, and cut down or delay the effects of combat fatigue, it sometimes helps your average modern warrior to think of what he/she is doing in terms of production. But I digress. The term casualty isn't used to minimize the horrors of death in combat. It actually covers the full spectrum - missing, captured, injured, or killed. So, in order to produce casualties, you don't need to mow 'em down with a crew-served weapon, you merely have to injure them with it, or take some of them prisoner, or even convince some of them to go missing all on their own by use of good psychological warfare. CZ
  17. Don't think of it as "war", think of it as an opportunity to produce casualties. CZ
  18. Howdy all - occasional lurker, figured I'd better introduce myself. I usually jump at Skydive Orange, but enjoy some of the dropzones in Colorado and Arizona when I get the chance to go. CZ

    Venting?

Jessica - Vent away and let it go. Do the next best thing - transition into the same job as a GS-level employee and make them pay you a real salary for once! Lots of room for all kinds of folks on the outside. CZ
