  1. Happily married only because I learned not to compete with my wife. No matter what I perceive the outcome to be, I always lose. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  2. We can agree to disagree. The definition you are quoting for "sport" is overly broad and only states "requiring skill or physical prowess " and does not specify it be a competition. By the definition you quoted, performing magic, playing the piano, and singing the alphabet song are all sports. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  3. It is a matter of personal opinion what constitutes a 'sport'. In my humble view, it is not a sport unless you are competing against another person who is actively trying to prevent you from achieving your goal. It order for it to be a sport, there must be a defense. So in my mind, skydiving is not a sport. Neither is track and field, golf, swimming, diving, or weightlifting. They are all a demonstration of skill, but not a sport. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  4. I am all for protecting individual rights, but this doesn't appear to be all that oppressive. You have to be an imminent danger, would have been involuntarily committed anyway, and seen a statement indicating you know you will give up your right to own a gun: When you are no longer crazy, you can petition to get the right to carry a weapon back: For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  5. Also - are you saying that all people who feel they need to self-admit to get help are a danger to themselves/society? For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  6. I also read voraciously, and have purchased a Kindle. I still prefer hard copy books because I am cheap. I can go to Goodwill or a thrift store and get hardbacks for a dollar. Like you, I hope people keep reading (and paying for) new books so I can buy them used. Unfortunately, the well is drying up. Bookstores are closing For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  7. Thanks for finding that. It certainly makes the FAA position clear as stated in the last paragraph: We can argue all day about what 'airworthy' means, but I don't think anyone can take the stance that replacing worn out lines is not a maintenance function. 8. When Wednesday August 28, 2013 at 7:00 AM to Monday September 2, 2013 at 10:00 PM Where Start Skydiving 1711 Run Way Middletown Regional Airport Middletown, OH 45042-2300 If you click on the registration link in the original posting you can get driving directions and a link to add the event to your outlook calendar. 9. I am curious at to what the legal professionals think about a judge who goes on the Today show and indicated Casey Anthony should have been convicted. He made comments like and referring to her defense attorney as a used car salesman: Many people believe the skank is a murderer, but is it appropriate for a judge to go on national TV and assert it when she was found innocent in his courtroom? For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  10. Yes, but it would look silly on your wrist. http://www.rei.com/product/849914/mcmurdo-fastfind-220-personal-locator-beacon-with-gps For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  11. I guess it is our fault for assuming the government uses common sense when defining terms used in legislation. I don't think most people would consider a large firework that has over 4 ounces of propellant to be a weapon of mass destruction. Hell - it isn't even a finale to a fireworks show. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  12. Points of clarification: 1. Put me down for a Western Omelette 2. I don't really believe God (or the Flying Spaghetti Monster) talks to me 3. IMHO, there are not an infinite number of points on the Earth, if you accept that the smallest measurable distance is the plank distance of 1/616199 x10 -35 m. If you posit that there are an infinite number of points on the earth, then it follows that the universe is infinite because it contains the earth. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  13. Start walking/swimming in straight line around the equator and tell me when you get to the end of the world. The world is finite and bounded, as is the universe (until God tells me otherwise). For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  14. Dammnn - and she works at Walmart too. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  15. From Wikipedia: Actually, the truth about infinity is that the monkeys would reproduce the complete work of Shakespeare an infinite number of times - not just once. Unfortunately, infinity only exists in mathematics. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  16. Would Roth IRA's be included in the $3MM cap given the income has already been taxed? I guess I should be asking Obama instead of you. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  17. I assumed the principle would have been drawn down to zero as well as receiving Social Security on top of the $3mm. I can't vouch for the calculator, I just picked one from Google. It was quite likely wrong. I guess my point is most people won't live past 92, and most people would be happy on $180,000 a year. I, for one, don't plan on leaving money for my kids, nor do I expect any from my parents. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  18. Assuming you retire at 67 with $3MM and assuming a low 3% investment return, and assuming you will live to be 92, you would have to live on $180,000 a year. I am not a financial adviser, but I did sleep at a Holiday Inn and know how to Google 'retirement calculator' For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  19. It would be very difficult for Joe Sixpack to come up with a $3MM balance in a 401K. The most you can contribute yearly is 17K (unless you are over 50 then it is $22.5K). The aggregate total you can shelter in a 401K is $50k. The other 33K or 27.5K (depending on your age) must come from an employer match. Unless Joe Sixpack owns the company, it is unlikely the match would be that high. I have been sheltering every penny I can for the last 20 years. I am well ahead of the game compared to other Baby Boomers, but I am not anywhere near $3MM in sheltered assets (including the 529 plans I have sheltered for my 4 kids). IMHO $3MM is a more than reasonable limit on sheltered assets. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  20. I believe the OP is from "Not America" where camera helmets require a cutaway. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  21. I remember them doing it "Behind Victory Garden Walls" For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  22. But they are similar. Developing a web interface that will not work on major browsers show either A) a rush job. B) a lack of funds/resources to do it correctly. C) a lack of desire to be accommodating to your customers. One of those conditions might also be responsible for problems with the black. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  23. I believe that the Start Skydiving Location in Florida is near Coleman FL, which is about 60 miles from Plant City. You may be mixing apples and oranges. oops - Rick is right - Mt Dora. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  24. I don't believe in taking children away from parents, but what is the guvmint anyway other than on big expensive Nanny we can't really fire? I don't have an answer to this one. It is cheaper to provide welfare than to imprison, so in my opinion it is the lesser of two evils given I am one of the taxpayers footing the bill. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
