  1. can't claim to be a good judge of that ... but not all that steep ... maybe 8 - 9 feet over 150 yards .. ?? ... but was enough to throw me off (was only my 34th jump) .. I think next time I'll break from the training and look down some!! As long as you are happy with yourself ... who cares what the rest of the world thinks?
  2. ohhhhhhhooo ... are you sure that isn't "cause men can't sing to whining women" ... ???? As long as you are happy with yourself ... who cares what the rest of the world thinks?
  3. good question ... maybe the Italians have things a little out of wack ... LOL ... ought to be women, wine, song. Find a woman, get some wine into her, sing her a song ... hope for the best ... ..

    hi

Congrats ... and welcome !!! but hope you're kidding about the memory ... "now WHAT was it I was supposed to do at 5000' ... ????" ... As long as you are happy with yourself ... who cares what the rest of the world thinks?
  5. Triathlon 160 ... almost right on 1:1 As long as you are happy with yourself ... who cares what the rest of the world thinks?
  6. I ran into a situation last weekend that I had not encountered before - landing going uphill, and quickly discovered that the "look ahead, not down" method I was taught to determine when to flare wasn't going to work, as I would obviously have flared way early. I overcompensated, and flared too late .. no injury, but sure not pretty! Any hints as to how to do this when landing on an upward incline? 7. pcs .. pcs .. and web "surfing" ... ROFL ... stick with the thruster - think those other 2 wouldn't float anyone too well ... LOL .. my favorite board is a 6'4" custom MTB I had made while I was on the east coast ... worked great for Hatteras and such ... but now that I'm in Texas it's useless ... too mushy for it down here ... 8. more and more moderators ... hmmm ... someone trying to tell us we get out of hand too readily?? As long as you are happy with yourself ... who cares what the rest of the world thinks?
  9. ... ahem ...(look at toes!) ... well ... HAVE a protrack ... but since I'm still at such an early part of my learning curve, am only using it for fall rate right now (in a pocket) ... thought it would be good for me to get accustomed to KEEPING TRACK and not depending on it as an alarm ... lotta good THAT did me ... LOL As long as you are happy with yourself ... who cares what the rest of the world thinks?
  10. I'm JUST starting into a project using MySQL ... and if you can believe the info they provide on their site ... it will handle pretty large #'s and heavy traffic. And the registration for commercial app use is only $200/server if I remember correctly ... As long as you are happy with yourself ... who cares what the rest of the world thinks?
  11. Figured a few things out the semi-hard way on my jump this weekend ... I did a 2 way (finally found someone light enough to jump with me!!!) ... and we totally lost altitude awareness ... was jumping out of a 206 for the first time, so made a mental note that I didn't start with as much altitude, but promptly forgot that ... I exited, then she dove after me ... and it took quite a while for her to catch up with me (probably 3500 - 4000 feet) ... anyway ... These are the things I believe I did wrong ... comments welcome ... 1) Lower altitude than I'm used to in the 206, and didn't make a strong enough mental note (I DID think about it) to keep track 2) Don't get so engrossed in the jump ... since I've been doing so many solos I was thrilled to actually be in the air WITH someone, and got carried away 3) don't rely on my "internal clock" so much ... didn't really notice it, but think I've been starting to do that ... now that I think back, haven't been checking altitude as much in early part of jumps 4) Tho I didn't think about it, I believe I subconsciously relied on a more experienced jumper to keep track We had planned to break at around 5 ... noticed altitude JUST above 4 ... and as a result, I was open lower than I should be after tracking off/wave off, etc. ... one other question ... I was landing uphill (another beer buy) ... and very quickly realized that the method of selecting the flare point (keep eyes ahead, not down) was going to cause me to flare high ... and I over compensated and flared late ... how do you do make the judgement when landing uphill? 13. I never roll mine, and so far (knock on wooden head) have had good openings. I didn't talk to them myself, just telling ya what my friend told me about his wife's ... (he started jumping in the 70's, so I have to figure he knows a bit more than I do about it), and he and his wife both jump Tri 175's. They've both told me that the only hard openings they've had on them is when a packer rolled the nose. If I got the right take from the conversation about her's blowing out, they could have invalidated the warranty as a result, but replaced it anyway. BUT ... you're right ... I checked back thru the instructions that came with mine ... doesn't say NOT to do it, but also does not say TO do it. It does have verbage about being "packed in strict compliance with the manufacturer's instructions", and since they don't tell you to roll it, I don't. 14. danged if I know - still too new at all this ... on some canopies it works fine ... on others it causes 'em to slam you ... I think it may have to do with trim? .. rolling the nose could be causing the tail to catch air first and cause the rest to pop all at once?? Gilligan

would have to pull out the physics books (IF I still have 'em) to find the formula, but you also need to factor in the stiffness or lack thereof of the material ... a lot more air will bleed off of something rigid than something that can bow inward and trap air like a cloth sail does ... 16. I've been really happy with my Triathlon so far ... soft openings ... but if you let a packer pack for you watch them ... some have a tendancy to roll noses which you do not want to do on the tri ... a friends wife had one (almost new) blow up on her after a packer did this ... Aerodyne told them to be sure NOT to do that ... causes hard openings on them. As long as you are happy with yourself ... who cares what the rest of the world thinks?
  17. drove up sunday morning, and arrived while the first load was on it's way up ... I got on the 3rd, I believe, and they got off one more after that, and a H-n-P load, before the plane had to leave due to weather ... but the dz is now officially open and in operation!! Lotsa beer in order ... first jump at the "new" dz for everyone there (including the dzo, who was on that 1st load naturally) , and first 206 jump for many (myself included) ... had a great time ... the dzo's wife came up with a great idea for their student canopies ... (wouldn't work as well at a large dz) ... they each have a different # of dark (maroon, of course!!) panels, so appear to be numbered I, II, and III ... will be great for the person handling radio duties. I quit!

congrats to both of you ... in a major way ...
  19. well ... low jump #'s ... I keep mine connected for now ... but I DO know how to get that sucker off in a hurry if need be (wind picks up a lot while in the air, or something) ... and not sure if I'd actually have the sense to do it or not, but have thought thru a higher altitude mal, and considered the option of a disconnect in that situation, cause like a lot of those of you with higher #'s ... am concerned about entanglement possibilities ... 20. www.skydiveaggieland.com ... with a little luck, the wind will let up enough by sunday to actually jump up there!! As long as you are happy with yourself ... who cares what the rest of the world thinks?

  22. still no clue ... I already had QT ... but thought maybe I needed a newer release, so went out and got the latest/greatest .. installed it, etc. ... then went into the browser to check to be sure it recognized that the QT plugin was there ... everything looks ok ... but still, when I click on the video link, it opens the new browser window, but never loads up ... :( ... bummer!! As long as you are happy with yourself ... who cares what the rest of the world thinks?
  23. someone tell me what kinda file that is? ... if I just click on it ... tells me to click to get the plug-in ... so I do ... and it opens a new browser window, which just sits there ... I have a couple of different .mpg players already ... As long as you are happy with yourself ... who cares what the rest of the world thinks?
  24. would have to be a place to live on a beach that has a good break, with mountains near enough to hit for backpacking, skiing, trout fishing and the like, a good dz closeby, and last but most important ... the right person to share it with ... (and don't tell me Cali ... already too crowded for my taste!) As long as you are happy with yourself ... who cares what the rest of the world thinks?
  25. agreed ... that is why I said UNTIL they get enough of them built and in place ... some of the technology they've come up with to do this stuff is pretty slick! As long as you are happy with yourself ... who cares what the rest of the world thinks?
