  3. I am sorry about your cousin, and I hope you will not take this in a way I do not intend, but... Maybe it just takes seeing what skydiving can do to change one's opinion about skydiving. Most snakebites in this country are from non-venomous snakes. Here are some statistics: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snake_bite#Frequency_and_statistics I've kept non-venomous snakes, and I have friends who have kept venomous snakes (all with permits). Snakes are not eager to bite people, and they will leave people alone unless they are surprised or harassed. In some places, that could get you fined and possibly jailed, unless there is an immediate, life-threatening danger. They haven't encroached on human habitat; we've encroached on their habitat. I hope you do not take this as a hostile response to your post, because I do understand you have good reasons for feeling the way you do, but the benefits of snakes far outweigh their dangers to human beings, and given the overwhelming "kill" response in this thread, someone needs to speak for the reptiles. 4. Dump them both. There is no justification for cheating in a relationship. If there were issues in the relationship which your girlfriend brought to your attention, and you refused to work on those issues, she certainly would be justified in ending the relationship. She would not be justfied in abusing you, yet that's exactly what she did. If you allow someone to treat you abusively at the outset, the relationship will only become more abusive as time goes on. Don't stand for it. (Note: In a long-term, committed relationship, people sometimes falter, and there may be good reason(s) to work it out, to rebuild trust, to stay. That doesn't apply here.) 8. I've been waiting and hoping that someone would open a thread , because I never knew him quite well enough that I would feel right doing it myself. On the other hand, I wasn't sure that very many of his skydiving friends post here--he was one of that group of skydivers who "post less, jump more," and his focus and dedication to the sport were admirable. More importantly, from my perspective, was that in the time I was a manifestor, I could always count on him to be polite and friendly--even when he didn't get exactly the schedule he was looking for. I don't ever remember him without a smile. He was a good guy, and the world is a lesser place for his loss. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. 10. Pursuant to 50 U.S.C. §521, there are protections in place to prevent default judgments being entered against those who are in the military. This includes uncontested divorces. The law is federal, and I only understand how it is implemented in New Jersey, not in Texas, but I do know for sure that it is applicable in all 50 states. What assets your friend wants or does not want from her ex-to-be is irrelevant. At the very least, he'll probably have to enter an appearance on his own behalf, but as I said, I do not know the Texas procedures. Edited to add: http://www.divorcesupport.com/divorce/Texas-Military-Divorce-Laws-2777.html If you google "Texas military divorce," there are hundreds of topical links. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. 12. What state? Edited to add: Assuming your friend is also in Dallas, here's a reasonably good site: http://www.uslegalforms.com/tx/TX-008-D.htm There may be special rules because her husband is in the military. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. 13. A four week supply is usually about $146. For all that, it's still cheaper than smoking. Glad you're doing well. You'll probably find that most of the desire to smoke occurs right before you're due to take the next pill. At least, that's when I always had a problem--morning and evening. Keep it going. Didn't quit, but I cut down a lot. I'm going back to the doc soon to try another round. Nausea whether I ate or not. Occasional vivid dreaming. No other side effects. If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb

  21. Fifteen years ago, I walked out of Macy's with eight items and a charge receipt that reflected the purchase of four items. I didn't notice it until I got home, but as soon as I did, I called customer service and read the rep the SKUs so she could adjust my bill. Doing so "cost" me nearly $500 dollars, but I'd never have had a moment's satisfaction wearing those oufits if I'd done differently. These days, it's small stuff--too much change at the register, an extra $10 from the ATM (well, I tried to give that back, but the bank wouldn't take it). All in all, it really doesn't matter to me what the person on the other end of the transaction thinks (or those who might be watching), but it makes a whole lot of difference about how I feel about me. Still, I'm not sure there's any way to pose a question like yours and get a graven-in-stone answer, because depending on the circumstances, the answer may change, even for someone with very stringent standards for ethics and honesty. Like...what if I had no money at all? And a hungry child? Or bill collectors pounding at the door? Or I needed medical attention? Or--double-whammy time--I had a sick, hungry child? There are a world of possibilities in this question, and while one can estimate one's choices based on past performance, there is always the possibility that there will be some unforeseen circumstance to alter everything. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. 25. All those things you wrote get said in other ways. People pull rank (more time, more jumps); they just don't preface it with "you don't know shit." I have seen, however, "you don't know what you're talking about" and "you're wrong." None of that is a personal attack, and plenty of people weigh in with "unmoderated opinions." All moderation does is make it artificially sweet. Sponsorship would just make it cloying. Adults should be able to manage the simple task of ignoring those whose opinions they do not respect and with whom they do not wish to interact. It's as simple as seeing a name and passing it by. If the definition of maturity is the realization that you can't change others but can only change yourself, exercising self-restraint rather than "other-restraint" is a good test and additional practice. If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb
