    Snow?

We had several inches of snow here yesterday and last night, northwest of ft worth. Here in the boonies we always get more than Dallas. The schools were closed and there were a ton of accidents. I stayed home! I wasn't about to get on the roads with a bunch of Texans who have never driven on snow or ice before!
  2. Where do you get your spoilers?
  3. I've touched them in freefall before. I did so when I first started jumping because one of my mentors recommended doing it. I've touched them more recently -- a few times during long dives to formations or when I've rubbed up against something or someone on exit and it felt rough. My cutaway does flop outwards a bit but nothing surprising touch-wise. I have a metal reserve handle and it stays flat against my body. I do look at them on every jump once I'm under canopy and have checked my airspace. I don't necessarily touch them but I just check to see that they are still seated. (a halfway out cutaway handle could be ugly and I know someone who had that happen and didn't notice until after landing...and just about fainted at the thought of what *could* have happened at say, 100 feet).

So are you rooting for Wesley Snipes? http://money.cnn.com/2008/01/17/smbusiness/snipes_tax_trial.fsb/
  5. Lucky duck. :) With the U.S Dollar so low that would be a really expensive trip! Eep!
  6. We will be at the Colorado tunnel at the end of this month! :-) 4 hours scheduled. So we will miss you. Maybe we can have our summer camps at the same time though. It's always nice to have another team to alternate with.
  7. Just wondering! The weather is going to be crap this weekend and man I wish we had a tunnel nearby!
  8. Why is this in speakers corner? Or are tunnel costs a hot topic like guns and politics?

    Hip Dysplasia

If the vet says she has a good chance of living a happy life after the surgery & recovery, then I would do the surgery. My old friend's lab had hip dysplasia. They did the surgery when she was a pup and she recovered rather well. Walking around the house a bunch after a month, trotting around in the yard and chasing things shortly thereafter. She was certainly in pain after the surgery, but it was funny later on: she would limp when you were watching her but if she didn't think you were around, she'd run around the place with no limp. Then as soon as she saw you she'd immediately stop and limp up to you and beg for treats...she was playing them like a fiddle! I volunteer for a Golden Retriever rescue group and they will do hip dysplasia surgeries on the goldens that come in and need it. I just saw a few of them last weekend and they are all doing so well! One got adopted...she's a sweetie and just needs a couple more weeks of being pampered. If your dog will not recover well and will be in pain the rest of her life, then I would do the humane thing and put her down once the pain is so bad. I'm sure it is a tough decision...I would just ask friends and a few vets what they think the outcome will be like given her age, size, current health, etc.
  10. The block rates are usually quite different from the 2 minute whuffo rates. Perris lists on their web site: 60 minute block off-peak: $700 60 minute block weekends: $725 I don't know any skydivers who go to the tunnel just to do 2 minutes. Skydivers and tunnel bunnies usually book at least a half hour or hour and split it with a couple of other people...then you will get the better rate. Of course if it is booked for the weekend that is no help for right now!
  11. As long as the people who aren't skydivers aren't giving people skydiving advice, who cares. If people who don't jump anymore or have never jumped at all have online "friends" here and want to chat with them and make silly comments and jokes, who cares. I personally don't post on say a scuba diving web site, because A) I don't scuba dive B) If I wanted to learn about scuba diving I'd talk to friends in person about it C) I am not looking to make online "friends." But to each their own. Some people are stuck in front of computers all day and stumbled upon this web site once and kept coming back. No biggie.
  12. I think my worst hangover headaches have been from Yellow Tail! I'm more of a rum & coke or cranberry & vodka girl. Margaritas are yummy too. :)
  13. I had a co-worker who got fired for goofing off online too much. It happens! Another who was fired for having phone sex with his wife.... That office was crazy. Interesting responses to this poll. :) Rick: Do you write off your crack? That would be nifty.
  14. Just curious how we all pay for our skydiving habits and other money-sucking activities! :-) I've come across a lot of self-employed people in skydiving. It's inspiring!
  15. How did you break it? (I'm guessing a bad landing of some sort, but what happened exactly?) It was nice to meet you and I hope you heal well!
  16. That song has been stuck in my head all day because of this video! Kinda funny to be talking to clients with that song in the back of my mind.....

    Beowulf

I give it 3 out of 5 stars. Liked it but didn't love it. Didn't see the 3D version because I've never liked 3D movies.... The animation was distracting....it did look like a video game! I was hoping for more realistic action; didn't realize the whole darn thing was going to be animation. Oh well!
  19. Yes, all the top bidders' bids will go to the cause, even if they're not in the top 6. I think it works just like a regular ebay auction in that respect. Marc: no swoop pond at Dallas!
  20. Hi everyone! I'm participating in an auction-style fundraiser for a local elementary school. It's a pie-in-your-face contest...people place bids on ebay and the top 6 bid recipients who raise the most money will be pied at a neighborhood event next weekend. I'm currently going for $12.50 on ebay. (I feel like a cheap date) Listing and details here: http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?from=R40&_trksid=m37&satitle=heather+buckridge&category0= So, if you're an ebay kind of person and want a fellow dz.commer to get pied by her neighbors and local friends, please bid on me. I'll post pictures of the pie-ing if anyone from here does make a bid/donation! To see all the auctions/people involved in this, click on "view seller's other items." The auction ends Sunday night. Thanks, Heather edit: This post was approved by Sangiro!
