  1. I'm not saying it is bad. I'm saying this is what is going to happen. 1- quick process claim. Get hearing date many months down the road. 2- ok, have a nice time in the US. See you at the hearing. 3- 4- fast forward nine months 5- anchors away! Plop! (Much cooing and cuddling with the brand new citizen in the family) 6- fast forward to the hearing 7- sorry, your claim has been denied. Pack your things please, you have to go back hope you enjoyed your stay. 8- BUT WHAT ABOUT THE CHILDREN! THEY CANT BE SENT BACK! Aaaaaaaa right back where we are now. . Up to you if you're OK with that. I'm not particularly fond of the idea. People going to the US and fucking is exactly how the US grew historically. How is that now a bad thing? Employment at a historic low. massive spending on your prized guns and military equipment. Supposedly a great country, the best in the world. Why are you now so against what got you to where you are? Never said I was, no am I against immigration. There is a process to be followed and requirements to be met. Go through that, welcome to America and all it has to offer. Loophole and circumvent the system (such as outlined above) sorry not Ok with that. Confirmed cynical sarcastic bastard since 2003

  3. Or spend time in the US working at all the jobs Americans won't do. That way they have a place to wait AND we get the tax income (could pay for all Trump's tax cuts.) Well, yes that would suit some people quite well. Then there can be another round of wailing and gnashing of teeth on CNN by sending them back after the anchors drop. 4. The outcome is going to be the same. Process the deluge quicker so they can be sent back quicker or take longer and not have to deal with as many bodies. And, some of them will decide to take Mexico up on their offer to stay. Won't change the end result- 90%+ are going back after they are processed. Confirmed cynical sarcastic bastard since 2003
  5. Are you going to pretend that you don't understand that is just a ploy? "Wait your turn" means we will slow walk this till you give up and you know it. Well, lets see. Last time around the system was overwhelmed and everyone ended up crowded into detention centers waiting to be processed. Doesn't appear like a good option here. Spend time crammed into a detention area or spend time on the South side of the border working in Mexico waiting for your slot in the system. Confirmed cynical sarcastic bastard since 2003
  6. I agree they should be allowed to apply for asylum. I get the circumstances they are fleeing. But are the ones rushing the wall going to apply for asylum or just disappear into the countryside? Maybe we should have sent 1000 state dept. workers instead of troops so they could handle all the refugees. I have not heard that they will not be allowed to apply. They have to wait their turn. However, 90%+ are going to be sent back. The requirements for asylum are rather specific, and just being poor in an area that has gang activity doesn't necessarily qualify. Burner phones

Damn, that was getting pretty juicy. Booooooorrrrrrrring! Well, you could also Skype call or use a calling card so you don't have to give out a phone number. Both are cheaper than a burner phone. Or, even better, just email from a dummy account and find out what he wants. Confirmed cynical sarcastic bastard since 2003

    Tariffs

Well, let's see. China stops buying US soybeans. Instead China buys beans from Brazil and other countries that used to sell to Argentina. Argentina cant buy beans from its previous suppliers (since they're selling to China) so buys from the US instead. Hmmm. Wasn't there an economic aid plan like that after WWI? The US gave money to Eastern Europe, Eastern Europe gave the money to Western Europe and Britain for reparations, and they gave it back to the US to repay loans? Tariffs

Well, Argentina did just become the largest buyer of US soybeans so perhaps market forces have shifted. Confirmed cynical sarcastic bastard since 2003

Soybean prices have been depressed for years due to oversupply. Since China now won't buy them due to tariffs it should be great news for all the greenie types that want the US running on renewable fuels. So, how about this? 1- US farmers sell their soybeans to Argentina. 2- Argentina turns them into cheap biodiesel. 3- The US buys the cheap biodiesel from Argentina (which is already happening) 4- The biodiesel is blended with diesel to meet the US renewable fuel mandates The farmers have a market for their soybeans, Argentina has a reliable supply of raw materials, the greenies are happy because they get their renewable fuel and are doubly happy because countries like Argentina aren't deforesting their land to make room to grow more soybeans for biodiesel. Everyone happy? Confirmed cynical sarcastic bastard since 2003

GM does not have the vehicles to expand in Asian markets due to changing requirements, therefore they are not retooling for addition production. They have a nice market share, but will require time to meet new standards to compete. For now they are focusing on their core market and what is selling strong and making money, which is domestic crossover (50% of sales) and trucks. Some sedans do sell but the ones that don't are getting the ax. The capital will be deployed into R&D for new vehicles and markets. Fleet sales make up a significant percentage of GM and I could see that as a future target market if requirements shift. Autonomous and new ZEVs are on the board. GM sold their European division last year after years of bleeding cash and took a $4 billion charge which pushed them into a net loss. They couldn't make money producing and selling cars in the European market so they got out. I know you want to blame this whole thing on Trump, but it's just not true. This change has been coming for the past few years. Don't just believe me, download the annual reports and skim them yourself. Will they come roaring back stronger and better than ever? Maybe. They didn't have anything to do with the GM restructure in progress. The brands being discontinued have had sales dropping 15-20% over the past years. By shutting down those brands, related facilities and trimming the workforce GM is getting as much cost out of the operation as possible. Happens all the time in industry with adjustment to changing consumer demands. Production shutdowns were a regular thing when I was in pulp and paper. Will those facilities reopen and produce new consumer demanded vehicles after further R&D? Possibly, but probably not for a few years. Depends on what happens with self-driving, electric, and fleet vehicle markets. Confirmed cynical sarcastic bastard since 2003
  14. It's not unusual to dissolve the business entity so there's nobody to be sued down the road. Housing developers do it all the time- slap them up, sell them, then dissolve so there's nobody to sue five years down the road when the houses fall apart. 16. Best advice I can give is dont just jump and buy the first rig you see. Look at a few others and consider piecing one together that fits your needs. Best source of used gear is other jumpers. Many of them have gear they dont use anymore or know someone who retired and has a rig. Confirmed cynical sarcastic bastard since 2003
  17. The AAD is pretty much worthless due to mandatory retirement. Take it out of the equation. The other pieces could be ballparked and I would suggest checking gearshops and online classifieds to gauge the market. Also depends on condition, do they need relines, did they just have relines that the rigger paid for, etc. Confirmed cynical sarcastic bastard since 2003
  18. Well, Happy Thanksgiving to all my non-native American friends! But an SC post would not be complete without some reference to this: https://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/native-americans-mark-thanksgiving-day-mourning-59361915 Enjoy yourselves watching team redacted play this afternoon. https://www.nbcnews.com/think/opinion/thanksgiving-game-cowboys-just-another-insult-native-americans-season-full-ncna939296 Cowboys VS Indians........ 20. Sure, plus if depends on an active duty or reserve unit. If they're active duty a good portion of that would already be budgeted for pay, food, and housing costs. Reserve units owe their two weeks a year and if they weren't doing this they'd be camped out in a field. In either case units go places for 'training' all the time and the 19th Engineers mentioned in the article would be off someplace doing exactly what they are doing now as part of that training. 21. I can make a pretty good guess that it has to do with being cut open when they're still alive. That's a major fear a lot of people have when it comes to being g a donor. I worked with a guy years ago who refused to sign up. When he dies he wants to be left there until he starts to stink just be sure. Confirmed cynical sarcastic bastard since 2003
  22. Oh, donor organs are definitely not free. When I was working in EMR I would see remits on accounts that had transplants. One line item. Liver, transplant. $34,285. (Or something like that) Confirmed cynical sarcastic bastard since 2003
  23. I can't think of any. Your organs should be part of your estate. Even if you register as a voluntary donor the hospital is still going to try and get a family sign off before they harvest. Imagine the grieving family crying their eyes out in the consultation room when the father is killed in an accident. 'No you can't have our daddy's kidneys. He's going to be be buried a whole man. Boo hoo hoo.' Doc: we'lll give you twenty thousand dollars for them. Family:. Would you like his eyes, too? Confirmed cynical sarcastic bastard since 2003
  24. Yeah, I was pretty dissapointed when the 'top 20' was released. All those places were doing fine. Put HQ2 in WV or KY or someplace that could really use the jobs and influx of tech to the region. People will travel to work at Amazon. So, they decide to go with two of the most expensive places in the county to live. Booooo! Confirmed cynical sarcastic bastard since 2003
  25. You hadn't heard? They finally finished the recount. Al Gore won. Yup. https://babylonbee.com/news/florida-recount-finally-wraps-up-al-gore-declared-president I read it was a guy in the swamp that caught a 19 foot Python and found the missing ballot boxes from Miami-Dade county.
