Quite few of you have never worked at a restaurant. The OP is absolutely correct, and anyone who has had to close a restaurant more than once after a 12 hour shift knows the feeling. A customer who comes in 5 minutes before close gets whatever food is left sitting under the heat lamps, and if what they want is not there then they are SOL. The benefits to turning off the lights 5 - 10 - 15 minutes before close are zero, as long as there are workers still in the restaurant people will assume that it is still open. Should we lock the doors 5 minutes early too? Any suggestion made by non-restaurant workers is irrelevant.

The most important thing to remember when fixing up or modifying a vehicle: you will spend money that you will never get back, ever. just like skydiving. the guy who owns a corvette but lives in a trailer...maybe he just went through a divorce, inherited it, or stole it.

a functional spoiler on a fwd is beneficial due to the entire engine and drivetrain assembly being in the front of the car making the rear end much lighter than the front. a non-functional spoiler is just something queers do.

Which is why being a dick when giving advice should be reserved to only those things which can cause harm to one or more individuals. Downsizing for example. DZO could first be polite to the jumper, then if the advice is not taken he could go towards more extreme measures if the jumper is definitely putting himself and others in danger. Makes perfect sense, I don't see why it's being debated.

The questions don't annoy me too much, but I've had more than one person tell me they'd BASE jump but not skydive "It's safer because it's much closer to the ground." That's probably what annoys me the most. One guy even said the only place he'd jump is at bridge day. "It's over water so even if your parachute fails you'll still survive."

Depends on the situation. If it is absolute need to know or else you die information, and previous tactics have failed...being a dick might be the best solution. Some guy being a complete dick because someone has 12% closing loop wear instead of 10% should be kicked in the mouth. There is one guy in particular I should have done this to last july.

Anyone think the same thing will ever happen to the japanese automakers? With their vehicles lasting nearly forever...pretty soon we'll see an overabundance of honda's and toyota's. Unless of course they start building less reliable cars that don't last quite as long. That seems to be the deal for American cars. And yes I am sure some of you have had japanese cars that die at 20 miles, and american cars that last 300,000.

Speaking of cash for clunkers...I dropped by the salvage yard the other day and the place was absolutely packed with cars and trucks from the cash for clunkers deal. Most were decent looking, most would normally sell for 2000 - 3500. Each vehicle that was rated at less than 18mpg was ran without oil until the engines seized. Mostly trucks and SUV's....sad. Maybe it will drive up the value of the ones that are left.

I fix cars, buy/sell cars. Buy a car with a broken timing belt for $300, install $25 belt, sell for $1000 for example. Lots of blown head gaskets too.
