1. I did the last Ozzy show... ....it was Karioke with the original singer, as far as I ws concerned. Ozzy "is" what you see on the TV show....the 70's must have been harder on him than on Keith Love the tunes, though! 2. VERY cool article. I read it all. "Supersize, my ass" could also be read "supersize-my-ass" [as in what happens...] Ironic that today I went to Burgular King for lunch feeling "too hungry to eat just the little ramen soup I brought". As easy as it would have been to do the Combo I opted for a whopper jr and teeny weenie fries off the "value menu". It filled my up just fine, thanks, and I didn't fall asleep at my desk in the middle of the afternoon either. [we have a super 'greek style' burger joint within walking distance but a Fat Boy and fries puts me to sleep and I don't feel hungry for 24 hous!] Dave ...slowing my fallrate bit by bit Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)
3. Instant fix... thanks Ivan!! What gets me is that I have never played around with this newfound toy "text size" and nobody else uses this computer... it was set on "smallest". Dave Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)
4. Well, sort of. Lately I've found that the text that many websites use on their main page has gotten so small as to be illegible. For example (THIS is what prompted be to write) on http://www.freefall.com/aircraft.htm[/v], the text about the planes is simply not acceptable. It's much like trying to read a newspaper at night without my glasses on and after about 43 beerz. This is not a universal problem and this fact perplexes me. Have weebsters just gone to a tinier font to jam more information (or advertising) onto a given screen size? Am I losing my mind for lack of jumps? Helppppp... Win XP pro. ATI all in wonder Radeon @ 1024 x 768 on a 17" CRT monitor. IE 6.whatever. 6. Nice description. I especially like the description of how to set brake lines. It does raise a question though...: If in setting your brakes for a no-stall condition you also shortened them so as to deflect the tail during anticipated front riser manouvers, which consideration would take precidence in a recreational skydiver scenario? 7. Skydiving vs. plane... it almost came down to that when I came to visit my sister in California this past March. There was a whole 'with or without rig' debate going on in my mind; 'with' won the battle. If, however, Lodi had their P-51 Mustang running (or even the Stearman biplane) in early March I might have taken their plane 'rides' instead. Such experiences are rare in Canada - I agree that the novelty factor contributes to the lust for an activity. "...what am I doing here at 14,000 ft?..." sure sounds like a born-again whuffo to me Merry Xmas Dave Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)
8. Yup, you can. http://www.installer.com/hilo/[/url} Essentially you wire the head unit speaker outputs directly into this little "box" that spits out through RCA jacks. From there you just plug into whatever downstream application you have. Effectively this device attenuates the output signal down to an RCA input jack level (...how, I'm not sure, but I've used one). 9. I see your geek and raise ya a Bandcamp... Our HS had a grad class of about 275. I was among 21 who graduated in the FIRST (...ya, I know...) French Immersion program to be offered outside the French Quarter of Winnipeg. I empathize with "visible minorities" because within the world of school, we WERE a minority and were always segregated - "visible" or not. On top of that, I was a MAJOR band geek with a minor Geek in photography. My Junior High Social life was scarred (pardon the poor pun) by nearly 200 stitches to my face thanks to a Golden Lab on my paper route 2 years earlier. this carreid into HS despite my efforts to break into the "english party scene" - ultimately playing music and with things mechanical took a larger part of my life then they had a right to at that age. Add the "froggie" thing and you might understand how I wound up with the Class Medals in English, French, Music, and the 3rd highest GPA average in the entire graduating class (....GEEK STAT...). These are NOT qualities that endear you to the "popular" set so you know how I voted and whether I attended the 10th reuinion. #20 should be interesting. While unlike da bytch I dont expect to have a World Record to hold over the whuffos, I know that no classmates of mine jump - and I'm fine with that. Actually, between my new acccounting position (I account for most of the Quebec operations of Westfair foods - en francais ), my success at anti-geeky sports like sports car racing and skydiving, and a waistline that's only marginally different from my HS days I feel pretty damn good about being a "30 something" without alimony or child support payments! Someday I might even settle down Let the fun contine... Revenge of the Nerds is not just a movie
10. Well, Age, that's only because of your insane concept of taking the ricerocket to C-23-D speeds and then deploying your chute to attempt the swoop of all swoops . Dave PS: I'm alive again... Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)
11. A certain Greenie on the Left coast should be able to help you out with your problem - why not go solar and/or wind powered generators? I'm sure it's just a matter of investing a few YEARS of utility bills up front to get yourself set up ... when it's too windy to jump you've got juice and you can PW in "moderation" (...get it? ) Dave Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)
12. Not only is it funny but I used to ride a CJ 360T, arguably the Grandfather of that, um, accurately described, vee-hicle. I bid the ace of Hearts Dave Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)
13. OOooooooohhhh - I'd damn near forgotten about Mr. Fielding and his um, escapades. Dunno how, I used to LOVE that show. ".... and the Oscar for the Best Creative use of Foam Padding is ......" Dave Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)
14. Bowie / Duran Duran / Georgia Satellites circa 1987 ... the Stadium tour. Just out of H.S. and that was "the" music back then" for those old enough to remember. Mid-summer in Winnipeg was hot, the field was rush seating and me and a few friends were right there right up front. ISTR the gates opened about 2 PM ....STAMPEDE!!! .... and then we sat...and sat....and sat... listening to the PA warm us ups as we fried in the hot afternoon sun in our "new" black T shirts. The beverage run was the shits when it was your "turn" as it took about 1/2 hout to get thre and back from the front. Other substances floated freely around - the "other" bad part about going for the liquid refreshments (who, me?). The Georgia Satellites were pretty much the warmup to the warmup but a good hard edged Southern guitar rock sound is never THAT bad - even if the house let them play with pretty much basement grade PA equipment and mixing. Duran Duran were at the tail end of their careers (as was my faaaavorite of the 80's genre - the Big Hair Band) but there were enough secondary school memories of the set to make it almost worth a stand-alone concert. The sound was marginally better. Bowie's Glass Spider tour did it for me. As much as I enjoyed ALL the previous releases, most of it, save Let's Dance, predated my record buying days. Adrain Belew plays a mean axe, man...live shows rule! The visuals from 20 feet off the stage were, literally, larger than life and the sound was incredible. Undistorted at concert time, my ears rang for three days straight after! Being at the front of the Crushing Crowd, to ease my aching feet I "hopped" up and quite literally did not touch the ground for 4 ( or was it 5) songs. I understand how some people get killed in such mobs. Then there was this dude with a camera who elbowed his way to the fromt (VERY rudely) and the Bikers saw this. I've NEVER sen anybody plucked from a crowd by their hair before - but by the time this dude had been hauled over the railing I'm sure he wished he'd bought a bigger lens and a seat on the sidelines. *** I've seen both Rolling Stones tours since then and neither had the energy of that all-day "rock" -a-thon. Floyd was a different thing altogether, and I skippd Tina Turner. Indoor arena shows just don't compare... nor could anything truly compare to a live gig in a small, smoky jazz/blues club. But, as so few can pull a stadium crowd in Canada these days, the 87 experience may forever remain THE "concert" for me. 15. Carbon fible is either far stronger for the same weight or far lighter for the same strength. That said, the absolute weight difference will (eventually) be offset by your being able to add more (or heavier)camera gear to the same helmet. I'm sure an 'actual' Camfly will chime in soon but I have a wide range of experience with sports car racing helmets (H.D. Motorcycle style hats) and when you;re dealing in 1-1.5G turns for laps at a time, the difference between a 4 lb and a 3 1/2 lb helmet is noticable. Perhaps this is not so much an issue during a skydive - except at deployment time IMHO, once you are talking 'camfly helmet' you are likely more concerned with mounting your camera gear than "crash protection" - though of course you can't forget about that. I'm sure the linings are no different. Carbon fibre looks really cool when just clearcoated - painting it will hide the natural beauty of that matte grey/black weave. My standard test: "What is the NEXT BESTTHING" you'd do with that $100? ... 5 camera training jumps? Another lens? Better/ extra audible...?? Comparing 2 options is far easier than considering an open ended question. Try it - the process works! 16. I have one... Well, sort of. Double beep for 5 seconds, quadruple (doubletime) beep for about 5 seconds, then a virtual flatline! Wakes me up, the problem is I tend to smack my arm into the headboard when I go to pull! http://www.aboutstyle.com.au/sub/lexon/lr57tykho.htm Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)

Funnies

...and a visual gag from this morning's comics that just might make the next big think in sky sports ...
18. Nice one, Ron! Many, many hop n pops later I had a leg entanglement while tossing head-down on a 5 sec delay form 3k ( I tripped over the still-installed JM and did a VERY slow frontloop that "just continued"). If you can survive what you did with a clear head then you are a VERY aware skydiver for your experience level - just keep up the mental practice for such events "forever"... mine took till about jump #150 to happen. Glad you enjoyed your Beers as much as the H&P. Wait till you try such foolishness under an eliptical and you'll learn how inportant your cutaway drills are (never spun one up but a 1 sec delay does not a stable eliptical deployment make) Dave Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)
19. Meh, think aboutthe packing credits you could earn to offset the AFF charges
20. Serious, SERIOUS throat infection goin on right now. Abcessed toncils and maybe Strep. Just went to the walk-in this morning and got me those horse pills that will knock any nasties out of the system. The hope is the abscess will not require a hospital visit. Tonight is our Skydiving XMAS party. It's being held tantilizingly close to my home (maybe 1 1/2 miles) but I can't talk, can't drink, and eating anyting besides pudding and tea would be torture. It's gonna be a long night but I'm hoping things will be better tomorrow. Dave Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)
21. didja watch the Monster Garage episode where they turned a "short bus" school bus into a pontoon party boat? OK this is a step up but I actually saw it float and move through water on the telly! Dave Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)

Coming Home

Well, Michele, I had a good weekend but not THAT good....there was no skydiving... Y'know that your first hour in freefall is a Beerable offence, right? BLF???!? I doubt you invented it but I think the moniker will stick
24. As much as I agree with chopchop that "it's much nicer to see no new threads at logon" I don't stress until I see Bad Words in the subject line. I think of the Incidents forum as a global "AIM" report. The existing posting guideline is satisfactory and the threads have been well moderated, IMHO. I suppose you could create a third category to fit between Incidents and S&T (ie: split this one into major and minor). I don't think the volume of reports necessitates this split though. Keep up the good work Dave Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)
25. Nice Try Sebazz! I guess this means you didn't hock your car for a shiny new Bike at the show last month... How's the weather at H town during the "rainy" season ... or is there one like in SF? Dave Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)
