  1. ...another thought on this (great mystery...) In photo #1, the left foot has a very shart shadow across the mid-sole? To me that means SOMETHING was very close, perhaps the wing of the plane? The bridle is pulled camera-right, much like s/l out of a RH door plane (182), though it's bow suggests forward speed. The shorts are billowed up the leg suggesting relative wind from the rear or below but not a huge amount of either. I agree on the altitude and it sure looks like a hop n pop to me. I can't tell about the skin or the hair, but someone jumping without a helmet MUST be a fairly advanced jumper (or busting some BSR's). Perhaps an extra long bridle was built and the cameraman jumped with the p/c in hand on a 1/2 second delay. The distance would be about right. In the second shot the cameraman is closer (perhaps in a stand?). The p/c would have been released THEN, explaining the "slow" deployment (no p/c drag if it's in the hand of the following jumper). in the 2-3 seconds it would take to deploy, the cameraman would be safely (?!?) accelerated below the jumper. Hell of a stunt, no matter what. I bet we DON'T hear how it was done if Mr. Ariel Freefall likes to keep his "trade secrets". I STILL feel it must have been done at a low exit speed (cessna) facing back to the wind with two very experienced people almost immediately after exit. The neat thing about this photo is the low timer / whuffo will have NO IDEA why we've put so much thought into what appears to simply be "a cool shot". 2. you guys MUST be jumping a left side door. In a Cessna, the only way I could hackey the plane is in a sit exit and somehow I doubt I'd try to deploy like that. Then again... Dave. Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)
  3. Kidding? Did you mention you wanted to do this for an audition tape to the Airborne division? Mention that you PAY to jump as a civvy? Are you back before the Canadian snow melts? Dave Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)
  4. Hook, Is it possible this was an IAD jump (jumpmaster on the step of a C-182) with a camera and long lens in hand? 'Geek'ing the bridle (shortlining) would allow the stiff bridle AND the open container so close to the photographer. Photog would still be on board the plane, jumper would perform a rear facing stand exit and flatten out asap? NFW was this done in freefall or someone would have been in deep kak, at least here on a small DZ where no nasty deed goes unobserved. Or, could it be the beginning of a CReW jump? 5. We still have a ship?!? I guess there is no mast from which to BASE? Just think, you could accomplish your live water training and and BASE letter (span, ship, wha's the dif?) Happy Holidays from Winnipeg (Winterpeg?) Dave Haven't jumped since 20 Oct but hoping for a NYE night jump 'round midnight. 6. Blue ones everyone! Hope your holiday/religious observance went well. 'Sister Santa' was good to me and offered a return plane ticket from the Great White North to their place in the Bay area. Besides the visiting, I'd like to get in at least a full day of plummeting
  7. got one for ya: We have a furniture store with a large lit sign reading "Dillon Interior's" WTF? What possessed them to OK the proof? Dave Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)
  8. D'ya mean "Electronic Quarterback?" Still got mine, still works. Of course, still have a VIC-20 too! Happy Everything! Dave Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)
  9. Hook has it about right based on my experience. Also, don't forget that the leg pouch can be left in place to hold WDI's (pleeease nobody ask whazzat?) or pull up cords, or whatever (inflight snack for those looooong cessna climbs) Don't sweat the deployment system transfer either, it's no biggie. 10. ... how 'bout a drogue release style setup. Clear and pull, fly the handkerchief (sweeet!) till 2200, then KA-CHING, out comes a "real" canopy with the '25 acting like a big plot chute during landing? ... I wonder what pond swooping would become with your 'superman setup'? Memories of waterskiing wipeouts are flooding back... 13. Touche, Drew! See, even a bookworm can get confused. Memory knew it was 16 and 14 sec for B and C, but obvuiously YOU cheated and went back tothe PIM. That said, wasn't THAT the point I made about knowing what you'd be tested on? daaaamn I wish we had some consistency Dave Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)
  14. Now, for the TRUE Scandahoovian (elman's pickeled herring is the BEST besides home made)... how bout that brown goat chese and rye flatbread (jegtoast?). One set of grandparents were Norwegian and it rubbed off. Emeril, Beware ! Dave Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)
  15. In Canada we have an equally confusing scenario. The "international Cross" - sometimes known as a 'style series' (your description above) is a series of 2 opposing 360's and a BL can be any of the combinations, depending on what you call it. BUT, for OUR B you need to do a "manouver series" in 16 sec or less. A "Manouver series" is L360 R360 FL BL LBR RBR. It's still 6 'manouvers' but it's a totally different animal. Off heading penalties are assessed as in style competition. For a CSPA C CoP you do the "style series" not the manouver series, but you must do it in under 14 seconds. Confused yet? What I've learned in these 3 licenses is that you do WHATEVER the book SAYS you need to do on your exam paper. As someone else mentioned, just because one CoP exam has changed does not necessarily mean that the others have also been modified. And, so long as you obtain the correct paperwork (and study guide) you will be sure not to be practising the wrong skills. ... not that practising ANY skydiving skill should be looked upon as "work"
  16. ... could be the Gold Wings Guys (and gals) are just bored of, um, exciting landings? In the case that started this thread I think we likely have some very brave (or stupid) people. I know I've been on loads where ground conditions have changed dramatically (both up and down in winds, change of direction, change of cloud cover) and landings have been a learning experience. One of the best lessons I learned was under a student Cruiselite about jump #20, right at the end of my student status. Ground winds picked up from steady 10-12 to an 18 gusting 25 nightmare. Even the senior seniors were surprised by the change (all 3 of them in our C-182) My radio guidance (this jump was among the last of my student jumps) got me down just outside the peas and only about 50 ft of dragging before I was able to entirely collapse the chute. On my own I'm sure I'd wave well overshot the target and landed among the CL-215 Water Bombers. I bet after 1,000 jumps I'll think differently of HIGH winds (and I bet our equipment is a lot different in 7-8 years) but I doubt I'll ever warm up to GUSTS. 17. Y'mean Geddy Lee (Correct, of RUSH fame) swiped the tune? It's called Jacob's Ladder on the album. I figure his lyrics speak of one of those 'weathered out' days at the DZ where those pateint enough are rewarded with the 'one load at sunset'. Been there. Can hear Alex's guitar wailing as I type...
  18. Well that would be Big Country by Big Country on Big Country. How 'bout this one: The clouds prepare for battle In the dark and brooding silence Bruised and sullen stormclouds Have the light of day obscured Looming low and ominous In a twilight premature Thunderheads are rumbling In a distant overture (long guitar solo) All at once, The clouds are parted Light streams down In bright unbroken beams Follow men's eyes As they look to the skies The shifting shafts of shining Weave the fabric of their dreams (hint... Canadian eh) Dave Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)
  19. Q: Where are the Brits on this one? ...and why do they drink warm (flat) beer? A: They own Lucas built refrigerators (can you tell I'm also a british sportscar junkie?) Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)
  20. VERY interesting, Dan. you have just confirmed my suspicions about a jump that knocked me silly on deployment. I had a big BANG after a sit/stand dive (C 182 DZ, just learning the position). I thought I had enough deceleration but I DO know that I literally didn't have time to resume Box before the slam. I'm 'physics challenged' but a friend calculated about 6.5G average over 1 sec given 150 to 15 mph deceleration. Your numbers suggest I was sufficiently slowed down and the subject of line dump. The timeline seems correct and it is much more likely than my still being at 150 after 2k of decel (started sit at about 8k). Anyway, for those still reading, I think the ultimate solution (for me) has been to ONLY use the smallest elestics available, take bigger bights, and to change them frequently. Even with all this I've noticed the litle elastics get tired before they break. Dave Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)

    Priceless

... not much better in Manitoba. No bus costs, and maybe $15 in fuel, but no jumps despite a promising forecast. Ma Nature was in a bad mood, again. Two weeks ago at Brandon ($30 in fuel) the sky cleared just in time for sunset (no loads), stayed clear overnight and weathered us out on the Sunday too. Damn near no snow here so no skiing either. Sure doesn't feel like the Christmas season. OTOH winter mountain biking is nicer than it was last year. 22. "Win me" is what it's worth from what I've heard. XP pro (not home) solved all my blue screen problems (had 98 SE) except gaming with a Logitech wheel (the expensive force feedback one that is not 'properly' supported because the new one is). But, since I spend so much time online in skydiving related stuff I don't really miss it that much Dave Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)
  23. (inside info) That 'collar bone' is actually a metal plate. Plates are used when the CB will not fuse on its own and needs 'help'. I won't get deep into why I know this but let's say that if Vicky DOES decide to have hers removed, I get one of the 2 "friendhip necklaces" it becomes (k, shoot me grammar police) Dave Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)
  24. Sixteen hours dark then rise to ride the highway Winter jumps are on Cessna has no heat Neither does the rigging room Hope the sky is warm Dave (Winterpeg Manitoba, Great White North ...except its still brown) Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)
  25. ...mine isn't here yet either but it has to clear Canadian Customs first . I was hoping to wear it to winter jumping this weekend except 1) the shirt isn't here 2) it isn' t really winter (about 38 f instead of 10f and a foot of snow). I think this means the peas will be frozen but not buried Dave Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)
