Now, I'm wondering how many Americans have retirement accounts and how much is held in them. At some point, this becomes an easy sell to those who did not save. Drugs are drugs. We do not infringe on natural rights due to alcohol use. We do not infringe on natural rights due to prescription drug use. Why would we start with THC? Because it was previously illegal? So was alcohol. This is where libertarians make perfect sense. Put what you want in your body. Don't hurt anyone else. Don't expect others to pay for the consequences. Similar to alcohol. Don't drive impaired. Don't stagger around in public impaired. Don't engage in hazardous activities while impaired. This is a pretty dangerous argument. Some conservatives who have bought the argument of drugs being bad will go along with it because they don't like pot smokers. Some liberals will go along with it because it is one more step in destroying the second amendment. Take a deep breath. Take a longer view. Drugs, guns, electronics...just tools. I thought about that. The problem is, once they take your money, can you really afford to leave? If done properly, you are stranded and just reduced in your economic status. You go from middle-class to lower-class (for instance) overnight unless you have a skill that is in high demand internationally and you are still active in it. Mixed emotions about drug abuse. I don't think they made a conscious decision to become a junkie, alcoholic, etc. They just made some bad decisions. Who hasn't? Some were likely susceptible to drug addiction because of mental / emotional problems. Many addicts are actually self-medicating for underlying issues that aren't addictive personality. I am very sympathetic to that part of the issue. Conversely, some people are rolling in their addiction and expect others to adjust, pay the bill, etc. No sympathy for that. Good question. I don't think the US is on a downward spiral the way some others think. But it's worth the time to figure out what your triggers are. For purely financial reasons, I would head for the Phillipines or somewhere else that I could live well on my retirement benefits. The problems with that is leaving family in the States. So, it is unlikely. For political reasonsto move: I consider the 2nd amendment the lynchpin of all rights. If a serious effort is made to deprive law abiding citizens of their unalienable right to keep and bear arms, I think things will spiral downhill quickly. If a rebellion failed to develop of failed to set things straight, I would probably find somewhere else to live. I can't imagine things would get better after that. I am reminded of one of those little interludes between Holmes and Watson where Holmes explains how he came to a series of conclusions. The season is upon us. I have a severe weakness for thin mints, tagalongs, samoas, and little girls' smiles. On a related note, I'm a big supporter of the organization. I had a wall built from cases of Girl Scout cookies when I was in Iraq. My niece is a scout and some were from her troop. Others were just to service members. I do pretty well on equalizing. I once got caught in some dense fishing line and had to dive to get away from it. I was so concerned with diving that I didn't equalize until the pain reminded me. My line of thinking as well. It seems to me they should have requested extradition to have her there for trial. I wonder if they recognized the double-jeopardy problem and avoided it. Having now convicted her, they may see it as greater pressure on the US to go along with extradition. I'm not digging into it like you appear to be. It just seems to me that the two systems are very different. Pretending that they have parallel functions doesn't help understanding. It does seem, however, that the US system would have declared it over once a court of competent jurisdiction declared her 'not guilty' as the second court appears to have. I like him as an actor. Sorry about his loss, but hardly shocking given the history. I am not on-board with the idea that drugs unleashed their ability. I wonder if the mental / emotional processes that are often a part of entertainers is also linked to addictive personality or some other issue that seeks drugs. As gaffs go, that was incredibly lightweight. If I had been sitting in the audience, I would not have noted it. You have to wear your heart on your sleeve (IMO) to be offended by this.
