  1. so, are they gutting the 1575 pound stuff to get 1000 pound flat? (W9759 in paragear) "Hang on a sec, the young'uns are throwin' beer cans at a golf cart." MB4252 TDS699 killing threads since 2001
  2. where can you find 1000 lb flat braided dacron? i don't see it at paragear (they list 400 and 600 flat braided, and round stuff in 600 800 900 and 1575). aerostore doesn't seem to have it either. 4. i have a 170 lotus max, and like others have said, no real differences compared to other canopies. my only issue is trying to speed up the opening. "Hang on a sec, the young'uns are throwin' beer cans at a golf cart." MB4252 TDS699 killing threads since 2001

  6. scotchgard won't remove stains, it helps prevent stains from penetrating the fabric. that said, use the one for furniture, not the one for carpets. used to be red for furniture and green for carpet. checked your link, looks like the 'fabric and upholstery' is the one you want. 7. rampart had their casa at skydive new england last weekend, apparently flying with 20 or so. again, runway clearances and such were cited as the reasons. can't be profitable! that said, our dz up here in the great white north has had a fayard otter once a year for a few years now, and this year it was rampart. they arrived on time, no problems. 8. i suppose, technically, the bridle comes with the main pilot chute, generally sewn to it. depending on the system, the bridle may be attached to the d-bag with a link (if the pilot chute is collapsible) or just threaded through a grommet in the base of the bag (non-collapsible). (not replying to bigway, just a general clarification.) "Hang on a sec, the young'uns are throwin' beer cans at a golf cart." MB4252 TDS699 killing threads since 2001
  9. looks more like a wings. might not be, but more like a wings than a javelin. "Hang on a sec, the young'uns are throwin' beer cans at a golf cart." MB4252 TDS699 killing threads since 2001

  11. it's from wikipedia, but there are enough details and outside links to confirm it. "Hang on a sec, the young'uns are throwin' beer cans at a golf cart." MB4252 TDS699 killing threads since 2001
  12. to address one of your comments, a wings container is no more or less rigger friendly than any others i have packed. it's just different. personally, i'm not a fan of anything with an exposed pop-top from an esthetic point of view, but there is something to be said about the pilot chute not having to push it's way though a bunch of flaps. one of the best pilot chute launches i've seen had been on a reflex. 13. be careful stuffing the nose in, too far in and you may get a lineover! a better solution is to roll the outer four cells towards the center cell on each side. look around for a video call pdpacking.wmv, probably on skydivingmovies, also available via torrents. it was done by scott miller of pd, and i remember there being a section at the end addressing the extra brake lines on older, larger sabres, what they are for and how to deal with them. i also had a sabre 190 with the extra brake lines, paid attention to packing and got spanked maybe once in about 100 jumps. 14. yup, my method is not exactly standard, but the end result is the same. i left out the silicone lube bit, but i do use it. ejumacated by handsome dave dewolf, class of '09 "Hang on a sec, the young'uns are throwin' beer cans at a golf cart." MB4252 TDS699 killing threads since 2001
  15. i generally figure out how long i want the loop, double it and add about 6 inches. fingertrap the line so that you end up with a loop 3/8 - 1/2 an inch, with the rest trapped inside. put a tool of some sort through the loop, wrap the other end around something (i use metal fids), brace one end on a sturdy bench/desk and yank the whole thing tight a few times to stretch it out. if you've done it right, you'll be able to hold one end of the loop with the other end supporting itself straight in the air. measure the length you want and make a mark. back up 5/8 of an inch (away from the loop) and make another mark. tie the top-secret riggers knot at the second mark, stretch it out again, then back that knot up with a second knot. thread it through the cypres washer, check to see that the first mark is now flush with the top surface of the washer, and yer done. 16. i'm assuming that the inspection you are talking about would occur during a repack. isn't it common practice to replace the closing loop during a repack? i'm a new-ish rigger, but i do remember being told that for all it costs and for all the time it takes, you might as well replace the closing loop every repack, no matter what it looks like. it won't solve the problem you are talking about, but it sure wouldn't hurt! 20. i was at a boogie last spring and a friend had a cutaway. the rig was back in his hands in well under an hour. even if i was just doing a 'fluff and stuff' (which i don't do) it would take me longer than that just to pack it! no way an inspection of any sort was done. kinda bothered me, especially after a deployment. 22. all of the cessnas (5-6 different ones) i've jumped had a latch built in. the door opens, the latch engages. there was a handle of some sort inside the plane that the pilot could easily reach, beside the vent thingie at the top front of the doorframe to release it. if you noticed the door floating, a quick push upwards would engage the latch. 23. not answering your question, but a comment on your setup. you said that your first locking stow is a big band, and the second is a small one? i was always told that the locking stows should match. if they match all the others, great, if not, no big deal, but they should match each other. you want even tension on them! if you read the other thread about the magnetic closure d-bag, you'll get a lot of info about the subject. basically, the locking stows are important, the rest don't matter as much.
