  1. i cant say for sure,, but i think the 45 does not have a lanc,,, i have ntsc versions, but i think only the 40, and 42 have lanc ports,, otherwise the camer is fine for rw and a newbie... dont let life pass you by
  2. The pilot received minor injuries, and the co-pilot received a spinal compression fracture during ejection. He was treated at Tripler Army Medical Center, Hawaii, and released. The aircraft was assigned to the 509th Bomb Wing at Whiteman Air Force Base, Mo. dont let life pass you by
  3. the 38 does not have a lanc port... as i understand the 20,30, 40 and the 22, 32, 42,, does have the lanc port.( i have the 40 and the 42) . the 6's and 8's do not... if you use a plate in between the camera and the helmet, it should cure the off centerness or get a box. i mounted a 40 on a base helmet and it worked fine.. ebay or craigslist if the lanc is that important to you, and it is for me good luck p dont let life pass you by

  6. i have a HC-42 as well, and there are a couple of things that will clear the problem. the first is to take the battery off for 30 secs and replace. sometimes this works. the next one is to run a DV head cleaner for the recommended time (15-30 sec i think).. the last is bizzare but works.. with the unit off,, give a couple of solid hand whacks to the screen side of the camera with it closed.. i have read several articles by repair techs that recommend it actually.. it may just solve it for good,, or it may come back... i had mine work for a while,, but i couldnt count on it for tandems so i got another one.. i got mine off craigslist,, but ebay is fine too.... i recommend getting the HC-40 actually if you can find one.. it is the exact same size, but it has the firewire connection and no dumb cradle. i save my old one for a back up and a charger... dont let life pass you by
  7. i took one of tony hathaways weekend classes,, i highly recommend it for anyone... he teaches to the level you are at and has great experience and knowledge,, if i could make to chicago this summer i would !! dont let life pass you by

  9. phree, i have rebel xt, stock lens and 580 ex II, i just started experimenting and here are some recent ones. for outside freefly 5-10 away i used 1/2, 200, F8, ISO 100 - perfect for a 9 way RW round daylight 10' below, 1/1, 200 F8. ISO 100 -perfect for sunset hybrid (sun just falling below horizon) 15' away 1/2 , 200 , F8 ,ISO 100, and it was not enough (should have gone higher iso or 1/1. ) for full night jump, 10-15 away 1/1, 200, F8,iso 100, pretty good, have not used it for tandems yet,, i am using the rechargeable energizers fully charged for each of the jumps. dont let life pass you by
  10. allison, i just demod the 124 and 117 pilot a month ago and loved it.. i just a spectre 135 normally.. hope you get to jump it sometime and the aerodyne folks are great.. p dont let life pass you by
  11. wooo hooo 7,15,4 first hop and pops with base canopy, full moon night jump that was amazing, 14 way with 9 in a round, and 15 on saturday, and first 270 front riser approaches... happy easter all, dont let life pass you by
  12. i have a small head as well and started with an optic which i loved and now in a FTP... look at the measurements on the bonehead site as it is pretty accurate.. and if you have any doubt call linda at bonehead as she is very helpful and will give you solid honest information about their products... dont let life pass you by
  13. i side mounted my 580 ex II flash onto of my bonehead box. i used industrial velcro (home depot) on the box and the flash. and then i used a strap ( fastec or walmart) to secure to the velcro. i had mine at a 90 degree up to avoid riser strike in the rear but you could lay it flat as well. run the strap around the box... two things with the strap.... it may interfere with your cam eye so check that out before you install or buy it.. my strap was 1" wide... the other hassle is when your not using the flash you have an extra strap to undo to get in the box. it was very secure with the strap and velcro. if you have questions pm or reply. dont let life pass you by
  14. i just am going thru the change right now for the same reasons.. i had an optic illusion and was side mounting the flash on top of the side mount box. the weight was very off center and i opted for the flat top pro.. i did buy a used FTP.. although i had the advantage of driving to pickup the helmet and going to bonehead to get advice and shims for a perfect fit (and baking).. if you go used, just get a new set of interior pads and bake it, if it was baked already. a used one can be re baked depending on how your head matches the person you buy it from.. so far i am going to mount both the still (rebel XT) and the video up top with the flash (580 exII) mounted on top of my video box.... with velcro and a strap... i opted to keep the box on the top mount for that reason rather than building a mount for the flash.. i am finding the regular width not quite wide enough for the top plate if you want to mount everything up top, IMO. i am trying to avoid front mounting the still camera to keep all the weight over the center of my melon and to keep the setup consistent.. i will try to post a picture later as i am work right now.. i will say that the FTP is not too comfy yet and i loved my optic.. but in time i am sure it will fit great..... feel free to pm me if you like as i just went thru this whole process.. dont let life pass you by
  15. you can also rent the movie clerks,, great reference material 37 !!!!!!!!! dont let life pass you by
  16. well i will try to answer as much as i can.. it was a day jump and i do wear the dark googles as it is bright but going to look at other options. i could certainly look at a moveable ring sight which may have helped this problem. i do believe in the right sight to shoot really high quality work but acknoledge it has risks and hazards which i accept but should/could minimize. i did check the pins and cypress and it did not have an rsl.. i just did not ask what the reserve was and i should have. my line of thinking on the front risers was to try to generate some more lift with forward speed. i did do 2 hard 90's on fronts as a control check once i decided to land it above the hard deck. but as pointed out this was not a good idea. thanks for pointing out that it was not beneficial and i hope others (and i have) can learn if this happens to them. that is why i posted this.. good advice on not using the toggles as it may come off at any time.. i will grab rears next time. dont let life pass you by
  17. sometimes i have time but most of the time when i am doing video i do not. i do put the toggles in the stow but do not set the brakes. but i certainly should have done the brakes and the slider in the hanger as it is always smart to do when using a packer (CYA),, i usually one have one rig and dont have this issue, but there were demos avail and i was turning loads doing videos and did not take the time to do it.. lesson learned. take the time.. thanks for the suggestion on the search , i will check it out dont let life pass you by
  18. this was on a tandem video as a cameraman with a demo pilot 117 (loaded 1.6) and demo rig packed by a dz packer. normal deploy at 3500 as the spot was very long due to uppers in 30-40 mph range. i pull the toggles to do the canopy control check and realize something is wrong.. my brake lines were pulling the rear risers down. actually they are knotted to the risers equally (it was knotted once, but at the time i could not tell) . so i make a small left and right turn and it is turning ok and i get some flare with the risers.. i cant see great with a ring site covering one eye and dark goggles so in flight rigging did not seem an option although i gave it a thought. altitude is maybe 2000 at this point and i give it a couple more rears flare checks and decide to land it as it is... ground winds are 15mph ... i do my normal approach with a 180 front riser turn to double riser approach to ty to get some forward speed. i use the toggles to rear riser flare. i landed very hard in the peas with a stand up landing. finished my tandem video landing and gave a big sigh of relief. some things i would have done differently looking back.. first now i am thinking i have no idea what size reserve it was as it was a demo rig and i forgot to ask.. not that it affected my decision but should have known.(so note to self if you borrow a rig, ask what reserve is in there every time !!!!!) there is a very soft alternate student landing area and i should have gone there.. i opted for the main as i was doing a paid video and wanted to get the tandem landing but i could have easily hurt myself badly with that choice.. i dont think i could have untied the toggles even knowing what was wrong without inducing a bad spin needing both hands to untie the knot.. looking back i dont think i would chop but would have landed in the soft student area. i am not sure what the packer did to create this but i told him that what he did made a knot on the riser. i was turning and i did not find out what he did exactly. i made sure one of the other packers showed him how to do it properly and moved on.. lesson learned you never know when it is going to happen to you, it may be the next jump !!! hope someone can mentally prepare for this as they read it if it happens to them.... thanks and blues p dont let life pass you by
  19. when you plug in the bite switch and turn the camera on (assuming the lens is in autofocus mode), it will act as though the button is pressed halfway. so it will be constantly focusing. i use the autofocus for tandems with the 18-55. i use a wide tandem rubber band to hold the lens at 18. ill use gaffers tape to lock the lens if i go full manual... enjoy it, it is a great camera dont let life pass you by
  20. i took this camp/class last year with tony.. it was a great class and i highly recommend it. i learned a great deal from it and would take it again. tony is a great resource for any camera flyer and presents it in a professional, easy to understand manner.. sharp pics and blues pablo dont let life pass you by

  22. Rawa, bonehead, cookie are fine for sidemounting. the rawa does have the best snagless setup imo.. the hc series are ok to side mount but if you not going to use a still , then you may want to top mount it for now until you do.. climbing out of the cessna is fine top or side or both, just takes some practice. you can definately get a used sony hc series (20's, 30's ,40, no idea on 50's) the ones that are 40,42..eg have the lanc port.. the 46,48 do not.. i love the cam eye but that is just me.. you should be able to get a used one for 2-300. i just got one (hc-40) about two months ago for 200.. you are going to need a wide angle lens and do some searches on those,,, kenko .45 is the best value if you dont want to spend the 120 on the nice ones. watch craigslist, dropzone and ebay....good luck dont let life pass you by
  23. i bought a 2.0ghz, 2 gb ram 240 hd laptop with centrino duo processor and vista ultimate ($1100) {if you can get the 7200 rpm on a smaller hd i would but mine is 5400}. i use the stock microsoft windows moviemaker that comes with ultimate. i have made about 10 videos with it and the computer is working well. i have used sony vegas plat 8.0 as well.. it is a higher quality program ($120) that gives way more flexibilty but is very manual to use at first. i would suggest getting your feet wet with the movie maker ( or the stock mac if you go that route. mac is more expensive up front but a little more video friendly, i just hate mac. ). you probably dont need a 240 HD just get an 120-160 hd and get an external or two.. . i got my music from limewire. i use hc-42 and rebel xt as well. it is a lot of fun but very time consuming to make a quality video. if you need any more info feel free to PM. dont let life pass you by
  24. i have the dcr- 40 and 42. the 37 does not have a lanc port and has a cradle for the 1394 port. probably the only downsides to that model. otherwise a good quality starter camera that can be side or top mounted.. dont let life pass you by
  25. nice shots velocity, and here is my first day of messing with full manual settings.. here is 200, f8, iso 100, flash manual 1/2,, 18-55 lens at 18 ... cloudy conditions. i dont like the slight blur, but so it is.. i am head down btw.. thanks for your advice everyone.. anyone tried the diffuser on manual 1/1 ? i am curious about taping it down and giving it a whirl.. dont let life pass you by
