1. What's your budget? I'll look on Consumer reports for you if you want. I bought a Canons A590IS for my girlfriend, and it's been a pretty good camera so far... "If all you ever do is all you ever did, then all you'll ever get is all you ever got."
2. +1 I've tried quite a few beers from Dogfish Head and Victory, and both brewers rock! I have a buddy who's as big a beer nut as I am or more, and he loved the Ommegang beers he's tried too. "If all you ever do is all you ever did, then all you'll ever get is all you ever got."
3. I have not tried this program personally, just found it using a google search. The download site is reputable though... good luck! Let us know if it's effective! "If all you ever do is all you ever did, then all you'll ever get is all you ever got."
4. This is simply not true. The ultimate solution to the Skyride problem is, and has always been, in the hands of those that take their coupons. If the collective whole refuses to take their coupons, they will go away, as they will no longer have a product to sell. It's no more complicated than that. Period. "If all you ever do is all you ever did, then all you'll ever get is all you ever got."
5. I'm sure more experienced folks than me will chime in, but that doesn't look like a bad fit to me. The large ring on the harness sits a bit low, but you'd rather have that than have it sit high, because everything shifts up when you're weight is suspended in the harness. Do you really want you handles to shift up to your armpits? The container is definitely not high on your back, you might just be comparing it to ill fitting student gear. Have you jumped it yet? I assume not, but if you haven't, you can tell as much or more about the fit hanging by your weight in the harness... I'd jump it if I was you. 6. Skydive Dallas is also listed as unconfirmed, but they do NOT take Skyride certificates, and haven't since the very positive management change some time ago... "If all you ever do is all you ever did, then all you'll ever get is all you ever got."
7. I just purchased a ladder strap and ratchet directly from Bonehead Composites. I actually bought the hardware from their Illusion to retrofit onto an old Rat Hat, but I'm guessing if they sell those components separately, they'll sell other components separately... "If all you ever do is all you ever did, then all you'll ever get is all you ever got."
8. Sad but true, that's often the path of least resistance when a Windows system goes bad! You can make that a much more attractive option with prior planning though... get your fresh, newly installed OS set up just the way you like it, then image that thing off to a USB or eSATA removable drive using something like Acronis, and it will make restoring your box a lot less painful! To the OP and the original problem, my vote goes to a missed piece of malware still sitting between the OS and browser or a damaged Winsock 2 stack... maybe check out LSP Fix... "If all you ever do is all you ever did, then all you'll ever get is all you ever got."
9. Lexmark E250 series laser, I have 4 of these at work, 1st one is over 50,000 page count now, and none of them have ever missed a beat. They're about $250 for a network equipped model, which is what I buy. Toner cartridges are expensive at about $85, but should be good for about 3500 pages at normal text document coverage. And they're fast, fast to warm up, and fast per page printing. I agree with Krisanne too, the HP Laserjet 4 series stuff is one of the most bullet proof printers ever made, they're just slow, which you've said doesn't matter that much... "If all you ever do is all you ever did, then all you'll ever get is all you ever got."
10. BH also makes a fiberglass version of the All-Sport that's considerably less expensive than the CF helmets. My g/f has one, it's a nice helmet, albeit slightly heavier than the CF equivelent... "If all you ever do is all you ever did, then all you'll ever get is all you ever got."
11. I'm a big fan of Dacron lines, and have had them on a Silhouette, Sabre 2, and Spectre. Several of the other 'older' and or 'larger' (I'm both!) jumpers at my DZ have also switched, and none of us would go back to microline. The only disadvantage is increased bulk, so if your canopy is really tight in your container, or you're really worried about that extra bit of parasitic drag, you might want to stay with microline. Otherwise, give Dacron a try! It's less expensive than microline too! "If all you ever do is all you ever did, then all you'll ever get is all you ever got."
12. My 'real life' experience with it is that both of my servers here at work that I've switched to eSATA are about 4 times faster than the USB2 interface they were on. My backup times are literally about a fourth of what they were with USB, which is consistent with the difference in 'theoretical' throughput. If your 480Mbs USB2 interface is faster than your 3Gbs eSATA interface, I'd suggest that there's something wrong with your eSATA interface, and if your resolve that issue you'll be a lot happier with eSATA too. YMMV. There's a reason that all internal hard drive interfaces on a modern PC are SATA and not USB. "If all you ever do is all you ever did, then all you'll ever get is all you ever got."
13. Even if a USB drive is 'fast enough', you will be a lot happier with eSATA. It's three to six times the throughput of USB depending on SATA version. On a desktop computer with built in SATA, it's possible to buy an adapter and pipe the internal SATA ports to the outside of the machine at a very minimal cost. "If all you ever do is all you ever did, then all you'll ever get is all you ever got."
14. That's a very real probability! My laptop (of similar specs to the OP) won't smoothly play back the native AVCHD files at anything more than 1440x900 at the highest compression level! Full 1920x1080 at the minimal compression is more like a funky slideshow than it is video. "If all you ever do is all you ever did, then all you'll ever get is all you ever got."
15. I jump 24" type 8 risers (and don't pull the slider down), and haven't had any issues with clearance between the slider and the camera with that setup. I did have a snappy opening on a demo canopy where the slider whistled down the lines so hard it went all the way to the toggles (type 17 risers), and that coupled with the short risers the demo was on put it right down there on top of the camera, so it's possible. But hey, if you side mount it you have to worry about riser slap, so it's just the nature of the beast. Hanging cameras on your head creates potential problems, and while it pays to try to minimize them, there's no way to completely eliminate them. I highly recommend hooking up with one of the video guys at your DZ for some mentoring. The guys at mine have been a huge help and technical resource for me! "If all you ever do is all you ever did, then all you'll ever get is all you ever got."
16. I jumped my CX100 top mounted using a Gold Member mount all last year, so I can tell you for certain it can be done... but... 1) It's heavy... the Gold Member mount weighs almost as much as the camera! I'm gonna hack the crap out of mine to make them (I bought another for a still camera) weigh less before I move them to my new helmet. I also relocated the screw hole in the GM to center the CX100 on it. Yes, I work in a machine shop. 2) The tripod mount screw on the CX100 is not the most robust setup, and at least a couple of folks have broken the mount. I'm going to add an alignment pin to my Gold Member to keep the camera from turning, so I don't have to crank down so hard on the screw. I'm also going to add a strap to my setup, both to secure the camera, and to keep the flip open LCD screen secure. 3) The camera is unprotected. I'm going to add a camera condom of some sort, just to give it some protection. It appears to be a pretty tough little camera though, as I've smacked mine pretty hard a couple of times, and despite bearing the scars of those encounters, it's kept on ticking. "If all you ever do is all you ever did, then all you'll ever get is all you ever got."
17. If you don't have e-SATA support on the motherboard already, you can add it with a separate card. You'll be a lot happier with e-SATA transfers, USB is just too slow to move much data with, and nothing produces tons of data like AVCHD video! "If all you ever do is all you ever did, then all you'll ever get is all you ever got."
18. That's not the only reason it took you that long. The accuracy requirements have been in the license checkoffs for as long as I can remember, including back when I made my first jump in 1978. I'm not sure if they've changed over the years, but the difficulty in achieving them has. It was a lot easier to fulfill the accuracy requirements back in the day when we were all jumping big F-111 7 cell canopies that were conducive to steep braked approaches, and the pea pits were gigantic, owing to their 'round' canopy heritage. Imagine that same accuracy requirement on a round! You haven't really lived until you've shot downwind accuracy under a Para-Commander! Most sport canopies in use today are not designed with 'conventional' accuracy approaches in mind, and just the long plane out phase on modern 9 cell makes it more difficult to land within 2 meters. And forget about even trying to fly a braked approach or do 'S' turns at a turbine DZ, you need to fly a consistent full flight pattern there. Trust me, it's a lot easier with the right equipment. 19. The living years... "If all you ever do is all you ever did, then all you'll ever get is all you ever got."
20. I have about a hundred jumps on mine, top mounted naked as a new born baby. It has several 'scars' where I've banged it on the door, but other than that, it's performed pretty much without a problem. I download video via the USB interface to my laptop for my 4 way team, and try to leave that fragile looking 'D' connector plugged in as much as possible... 21. Here, this thread will give you lots of insight into the many varied setups that folks here are jumping... "If all you ever do is all you ever did, then all you'll ever get is all you ever got."
22. Nah, it just means that they never had a team photo done... if you follow the roster link on the results page it lists the roster for the team... "If all you ever do is all you ever did, then all you'll ever get is all you ever got."
23. Yeah, aside from it being kinda dumb, it's actually pretty impressive flying! His team is not out of frame for long at all, and if it hadn't been deemed unsafe and cost them the entire round, he wouldn't have cost them a point. "If all you ever do is all you ever did, then all you'll ever get is all you ever got."
24. I'm not naming names, but you could figure it out using the results and rosters posted online at USAPNationals.com if you really wanted to know... There's also video from it in one of the on-demand feeds under the 'live' section of the same site (06:05 into the first clip from the 16th) if you want to see it... "If all you ever do is all you ever did, then all you'll ever get is all you ever got."
25. I've got about 40 jumps on a Storm, 20 jumps on a Pulse, and currently own a Spectre. The Storm is trimmed considerably steeper than either the Pulse or the Spectre. Working back from a long spot on the Storm, I was holding a bunch of rear riser to stay relative to my teammate on a similarly loaded Spectre. When I gave up and decided to land off and released the rears, I dove past him like nobody's business. We both noticed and commented about it after the jump.
