  2. People never seem to remember this... DEET and nylon do not like each other. Nylon (ie canopies) will degrade from DEET exposure. Good catch. I make fixy fixy This is not the bonfire. Some people read DZ.com as an actual source of reliable information. There are no dangerous dives Only dangerous divers
  3. My suggestion for carolinafest to save some money/time: - Buy stuff before you get to the DZ, It is far from anything. It will save you gas money. - Don't get caught speeding on I-81. 10 Mph=$75 - Also, all around the DZ there are cops waiting throughout the boogie. They know we are there all week. No open containers - Nipple clamps are overpriced in Carolina. Get them in VA - Pitch your tent so that the tree gives you shade in the morning. Also bring a tarp. - [Sarcasm]Deet is your friend[/Sarcasm] - You can drink with the Rodriguez brothers, just don't try to keep up. Double goes for SkymonkeyOne. - Its a Doug eat Doug world - Snarf snarf snarf - The funeral home that is 5 miles to the south also does bail bonds. - Get up early for the free loads. (Captain obvious) - Save money on STD testing: hot sauce double bagger There are no dangerous dives Only dangerous divers
  4. Seriously disgusting) $64 STD test $20 to pitch in for bail(again) Total cost 1105.67 Update to boogie costs Arizona days boogie, Eloy $162 9 jump tickets @18 each $0 Bail (I see this as a sign of personal growth) $32.34 Gas $342.16 Alcohol (I see this as a sign of personal growth) No speeding tickets (POS car can't go fast enough to get one) No STD test, No morning after pill, No feather duster, No riding crop. (Top tip for saving some money: Lose some hair and gain 15 pounds. Lack of personality also helps) Total cost: $536.5 There are no dangerous dives Only dangerous divers
  5. Poll: I would drive 1000 miles to Oklahoma City for: Looking at these results, we see that the obligatory answer is a crowd favorite. More people would rather assert "No way for OKC!" Boogies are fine but not at any price The battle for third and forth place is interesting: there are three lechers, but four people who would handle a dead body before a live one... 6. As it stands after one day: Ignoring the obligatory option...no way for OKC! -I honestly though Lola would get more votes... -Batman got a vote but no bail for friends? actually that makes sense here. If you move a body, your buddy does not need bail. Need more votes! There are no dangerous dives Only dangerous divers
  7. 1000 miles is a long way to drive. Oklahoma city is far from being a travel destination. What would get you to do a drive like that? There are no dangerous dives Only dangerous divers

  9. Tools: - Screwdrivers - Hole punch (optional) - Scissors Materials: - Plastic plate like a credit card or hotel key card Instructions: - Heat screwdriver (diameter close to bungee) - Make the three small holes - repeat for diameter close to bungee with knot in it (hole punch work well) - only AFTER making the holes, Cut the excess plastic. - Repeat several times until you get the right fit How this works: - Tie bungee to legstrap 1. - Other end of bungee goes in the small, single hole and gets a knot on the other side. Cut off excess. - Tie bungee to legstrap 2. - Other end gets a knot (measure twice). Cut off excess. (Do this after a few jumps because you can't uncut) Leave enough excess so you can pull on it easily 1.5-2 inches - Insert the bungee in the big hole (*snicker* "he said big hole") and when you pull on it it should snap into the smaller ones and remain there. I tried several designs with varying degrees of failures. This one still works and has not broken yet. If you make the hole too big, it will sometimes come out when you freefly. Make the hole tight like sister not loose like sleeve of wizard. There are no dangerous dives Only dangerous divers
  10. GoPro Low Profile Permanent Mount from hypoxic is excellent and should be used with a helmet that has a cutaway system. The low rent, cheapo mount in the attached pics is basically $9 worth of L brackets, T-nuts, bolts and washers. I cover the mount with some gaffer tape just to make it a little less sang-alicious. I recommend nylon bolts instead of metal (going to home depot tonight) Sorry about the paint job. Use with cutaway helmets only, at your own risk and so on There are no dangerous dives Only dangerous divers

  12. This comment Probably belongs in the bonfire, but I found that the comments say more on the people who make them than skydivers or skydiving. There are no dangerous dives Only dangerous divers
  13. If you flatten out the canopy (rear risers for example) and create as little drag as possible in your body...you could gain altitude for a short burst of time? Unless you are in a paraglider riding thermals...everyone reaches the ground at some point right? There are no dangerous dives Only dangerous divers
  14. My favorite thing is to go to the "I want to swoop with 30 jumps" threads from 5 year ago and see the comments. The real kicker is that now the OP has 3000 jumps in the profile. There are no dangerous dives Only dangerous divers
  15. Wuffo: I think its crazy to jump out of an airplane with a parachute His awesome kid (6 years old): I think it is crazier to jump out of an airplane without a parachute. Me: [Speechless] There are no dangerous dives Only dangerous divers
  16. #1 Narwhal mount #2+3 Double GoPro 3D setup facing forward (No need for anything facing back because real men don't care where they've been only where the're going) #3+4 one facing right, and the other left, on the helmet. You have to be able to see your main and reserve side instructors' faces while they high five over your mad skilzz #5 Right shoe facing up. So we can see your awesome track #6 Left shoe facing forward so we can see the ground flying by as you swoop #7 Sewn in the bottom skin of the main canopy facing down (U Da Man!!!) #8 on the swoop gate #9 in the swoop pond right above the surface of the water (they are waterproof right? and shock proof?) #10 up your ass facing out so we can see 1) the pucker factor 2) the ground, at high speed 3) your head, because that is the last place it was seen Canopy choice: Canni landed a 37. What are you? a pussy? An RDS is not optional Swoop pants and a custom T-shirt with "Swooper" on the front and "SkyGod" on the back How to swoop: 1) make sure the pattern is full of people, preferably students with huge canopies and tandems. 2) do a right 270 followed by a left 270, start this maneuver at 500 feet or less. 3) You must blind man on every swoop while dragging one foot in the water, holding one foot in your hand and toggles in your teeth. 4) don't forget to have an ice cold stare for the camera. 17. I saw that shit too? And he was saying that his friends were getting their license? Is there some private celebrity dropzone? Does tom cruise secretly own a jump plane? Because the beer rules apply to them also...First oscar? beer! first emmy? beer! first cover of people magazine? beer! And no cheepo Coors light crap either like the rest of us ramen eaters. 20. This should be a new BSR and taught in the FJC and a sticky at the top of every forum and waivers and in fact the USPA should spend all its safety budget next year to buy a Superbowl ad "Do not seek advice on the internet for skydiving" Probably save us a few fatalities and injuries There are no dangerous dives Only dangerous divers
  21. http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_the_leading_cause_of_death_when_skydiving Utter bullshit. The real reason is violent video games and moose hunting. There are no dangerous dives Only dangerous divers
  22. Its the point I was making at the end of my post. Different jump = different numbers. You said previously: and I hope you meant that we don't need a BSR to tell us when to deploy. We can figure it out ourselves. There are no dangerous dives Only dangerous divers
  23. I stopped reading after this because it's wrong. The reason I deploy at 2K (instead of 1.5K, 1K, etc...) is because it's "the rule". The reason I feel that deploying at 2K is OK is based on my gear choices and level of acceptable risk ... Allow me to back you up with numbers 120 mph= 176 feet/sec 0 ft = ground 750 ft = cypress fire [need to be in the saddle on a good canopy before this altitude] 3 seconds from main deployment to bridle stretch (includes a 1 second hesitation) 3sec X 176ft/sec=528 feet 500 foot snivel (my canopy) 528+500=1028 feet from pitch to "in the saddle" 1028+750=1778 feet 1778 feet= minimum deployment altitude [for a jumper with: fall rate = 120mph, snivel= 500 ft and cypress fire = 750 ft] Adjusting for different fall rates: 110 mph => 1734 feet 130 mph => 1822 feet Adjusting for different snivels: 300 ft => 1578 feet (1534 ft for 110 mph fall rate) 900 ft => 2178 feet (2222 ft for 130 mph fall rate) To summarize: Fast faller with long snivel =2200 feet deployment Slow faller with short snivel = 1534 feet deployment Most of us = 1800 feet deployment Some more math: From 120 mph velocity towards the earth to 30 mph(in the saddle) is a deceleration or negative acceleration. the value of this can be measured in g-forces and depends on how long it take you to go from "fast" to "slow" g=(fast-slow)/time 1 second => 3.8 to 4.2 G 2 seconds => 1.9 to 2.1 G 3 seconds => 1.3 to 1.4 G 4 seconds => 0.9 to 1.1 G Where 1 is regular gravity, 3 is the space shuttle launch, 1.5 is a Bugatti Veyron and 4 is a roller coaster. A 500 ft snivel puts you somewhere in the 2-3 second range. [opinion, rant] So BSR or no BSR I plan my normal dive around a 3000 foot deployment, hard deck of 2500 and 1800 decision altitude. And I don't need Bill Booth (who is awesome) or the USPA or PIA or anyone to tell me that. Furthermore: if I get some new AAD that has a different altitude or a new main that has different opening times or a different reserve, or a wingsuit or camera or etc..., I do the math. Do you?.[/opinion,rant] There are no dangerous dives Only dangerous divers

  25. So if you see a USPA sticker on a car not on a DZ... It's implied permission to mess with it right? -Like write BSBD on the windshield in a fat magic marker -put an egg in the exhaust pipe so it "lays an egg" or cooks it if it doesn't -slap a random sticker on the door handle -snap the wipers out (especially on a rainy day) -splash water on the hood and dump a bag of flour on it -leave a "you're hot, call me" note on the windshield -Scrape off the sticker and re-stick it on the driver's handle with the word "poser" scrawled. OR- just ignore it - There are no dangerous dives Only dangerous divers
