  1. Thanks for all the feedback guys. I have told my DZ, and even my old instructor in California who is a rigger. I guess since it's high season I just need to be a little more patient and wait it out... It would be nice if there was some kind of "mentor" in place to help noobs. I've heard of people having wonderful smooth experiences which resulted them to remain super active in the sport. I've also heard of people who drop out completely and don't get further than their AFF or A License because they have no idea what to do and help isn't easily accessible.
  2. I've been looking everyday on Facebook and DZ.com for used gears for the past 5 weeks- still no luck. It seems that only 20% of people who I inquire for their gear respond. I really don't want to continue renting gear and would rather invest in an old rig... some riggers tell me to go with a new container/harness and used canopies, some tell me to go all used, buy used parts and put it together (I'm way too new to even think about this now), some told me to go all out and blow my money on new everything (not gonna happen). Any feedback or direction from your first gear purchase experience would be grateful. Thanks
  3. Hey everyone, This is my second greeting since 2012 which was my first tandem and AFF course completion. Took a 2 year break, and am now working on to get my license. Hoping to make this sport a part-time/full-time career one day, as sitting in an office staring at a computer just doesn't cut it for me :P Hoping to buy my first complete rig on here as well, being a newbie. Anyhow, glad to be back on the official online community for Skydivers! Cheers!
  4. Thanks everyone, I believe I have 5 more jumps for my AFF? Can't wait for this weekend to come around... I've been eating potatoes all week to save $$.... Totally worth it.
  5. sorry don't know how to make the link "clickable"
  6. Hey everyone, So I just finished my weekend filled with fun skydiving. Can't believe I'm really here now, it's only been 3 days since my first tandem. Anyways, my instructor today Nick Armstrong had video of me for my Cat B jump, and I can't appreciate him enough because I learned so much seeing myself from this angle. I completely get why the Arch is stressed so much. At 1:00, my instructor gives me the signal to arch and I can physically see myself fall lower into a smooth belly-down position. Just wanted to share this for anyone else new like me.... ARCH!!!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_dVhahj2A9I&feature=youtu.be
  7. I was a little scared on the plane, but definitely wasn't as scared as I thought I would be. I was more zoned out into the moment
  8. WOW. now that was some good stuff. I did exactly what most people said, to enjoy the fall and have fun. I put good faith in my instructor and was consciously taking deep breaths on the plane ride up. During the fall, I realized I was screaming the whole way down lol. I definitely made the right choice of scheduling my AFF level one tomorrow.... Cannot wait! Oh yea one thing I completely didn't think about during the fall, which is the most important, is the altitude. But I'm pretty sure I will be more aware of it when jumping solo! I am for sure making this a consistent activity in my life.
  9. Haha thank you everyone I will remember to enjoy it. Fall with faith and confidence and embrace it. Will update everyone tomorrow!
  10. Haha oh yea! Someone told me about this one.... Thank you everyone I appreciate it!
  11. Hey all, Tomorrow will be my first tandem jump to prepare me for my level one AFF course Saturday. I am super excited yet getting a bit nervous, but more excited if anything. I will be keeping these in mind: Remember to breathe Check altimeter regularly for practice, always be conscious of altitude Embrace the fall and get the feel of the whole experience Remember that safety is the number one priority in this sport Arch, pelvis forward, legs extended Does anyone out there have any additional pointers before I do this?? Thank you everyone!
  12. Thank you, this is by far one of the most important ones and thank you for stressing its importance to me. Drilling it in my head now
  13. Hey all, Very very very fresh here... To the sport as well... I have my first tandem jump on Friday, and AFF level 1 course on Saturday... I've always dreamt of flying, and now I am on my way to making that fantasy a reality. I strive for being in the state of flow, as some may say zen. I hear this is where I can achieve it. Any suggestions/pointers to an inexperienced skydiver? Thank you all, I'm grateful to become a part of this community.
