  2. How do you do a front loop anyway? Blue Dreams Benno
  3. I read a great noshitthereiwas about someone who did a jump in the scary old days on acid. He nearly went in, something about a flashing red light... Fact of life that every skydiver will see another one pushing the 8hours bottle/bong to throttle. It's the dive after the big nite that worries me the most, regardless of what liquid, plant or powder was used. I once saw a guy have a bong and then do a work jump, I still find that troubling. 4. In OZ: If a DZ isn't signed off for cloud jumping - which is hard to do - it's the perfect weapon. And has indeed been used to effect. Blue Dreams Benno
  5. I know of a PAC750 that regularly does take off's with zero flaps given a light load. Albeit that is a different kettle of fish from flying with broken flaps... Blue Dreams Benno
  6. Optus and Telstra both work at Nagambie and Toogoolawah. Telstra - best coverage Vodaphone - best deal. Crap service, no good outside built up areas. Optus - good enough coverage I use Virgin which uses the Optus network. Blue Dreams Benno
  7. > Canopy Deficient FuckUp... lol -> tell us what your really think... I learnt two things I didn't know you could use that canopy as main or a base canopy - there you go. The best place for information is your DZ and instructors that are familar with your abilities. I'm 100% sure somone will chime in and say take a canopy class. The quickest place for [mis?]information is dropzone.com. Check out the the gear reviews for some 7cells: Raven http://www.dropzone.com/gear/Detailed/27.html Triathlon is 7cell main http://www.dropzone.com/gear/Detailed/36.html Blue Dreams Benno
  8. 17 – 17. Buzzard Buzzard. centers: They do a 360. Anticipate fall rate. A compressed will usually float. It shouldn't , but welcome to 8way. Don’t favor your compressed. compressed: The people in the compresses do a 360, forwards. I think the most important thing is for the people in the compressed to chat and agree about how they are going to do the block and how much. How much power to put in - it must be both even and equal. Most important of all how to stop it. Overshoots are very common when learning the block. Two major techniques are used to turn a compressed. Go stop ( exactly that – actuall read go, S T O P ) - warning overshoot You me you ( like comp box but different enough to be different ) - warning translate Watch for the inter picture – which is you looking through the centre at your opposite. Be kind to the solo flyers and big time pick up the fall-rate. Outside flyers: on the key turn like phuck (outward turn), then fix any levels or translation. As you said the heading will change if the compressed piences translate or over rotate - an unfortunate part of 8way reality ;-) edit: I delibrately didn't look at the other reply, but just read it. Interesting to see different techniques used for different teams. That also the cool thing about 8way - engineering is a major factor and things are done differently. Blue Dreams Benno

  10. Have there been any issues with tailplane stalls during jumprun / climout? I can think of only one minor one where the jumpers wheren't to blame. Blue Dreams Benno
  11. This is my fav, I really like the part about the car catching fire... http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1632128;#1632128 Blue Dreams Benno
  12. 0:10:0 No way that counts as a jump. It was the worst 8way I have ever been on. So much for the skygods! Last I saw the CI was phoning the APF to have all our starcrests revoked
  13. feel for you - that is a big shit sandwich life is asking you to eat. My partner had the same issue in December with her mum, who sucome to her illness after Christmas. It has a very difficult time for both of us. It does take abit of time, but it will get better for both of you. It's a cliche; Alot of our love ones have died, only the lucky ones died doing what they love. To finish my post on a high note, someone from DZ.com used to have as a sig "I want to die like my grandfather, peacefully in his sleep. Not yelling and screaming like the other people in his car". 14. hey I'm back in the air * 2. Back skydiving and back online. Being disconnected from the Internet for a few weeks sucked more than being on the ground. The last three weeks of not skydiving where the worst - I caught a life and couldn't make it to the dropzone. Between Birthdays, moving and work there was barely enough time to get pissed. All the above advice seemed pretty sound - the sacrum will heal slowly by itself. I did alot of work in the gym to fix the general ache's and pains - I guess any impact strong enough to crack a bone isn't going to do muscles, ligaments and tendons any good. My range of motion was severely restricted for about 7 weeks. There are a few snowboarding pads on the market that be helpful . Google: azzpads. I had longer off skydiving before, my landings where shit shit this time. So it was good to have abit of protection. Curiously my back is now better than before the accident, long car journeys no longer hurt and my sciatic (sp?) has cleared up. Blue Dreams Benno
  15. Patrick Passe's Crosswind comes to mind - but it's more eye candy than documentary. Joe Jenning's Goodstuff includes his commentary and a couple of interviews. Along with alot of cars being trashed. Wasn't there a docco on Airspeed? Let see what others come up... Blue Dreams Benno
  16. G'day Cookie. We've done our roll call - to our mutual delight we got all 9 back on board! We all thought for sure atleast someone would get swallowed up: significant other, angry bank manager, job, retire, move overseas... Fortunately no-one did and my bank manager fell for the old "it's in the mail". Team meetings happening over the next few weeks. Then it's game on. 8way 8way 8way 8way 8way 8way 8way 8way 8way 8way 8way 8way 8way 8way 8way 8way 8way 8way 8way Blue Dreams Benno
  17. A laptop is a personal item. The best one will have the right weight, size, look & feel about it for you. Macs are very classy machines and have an outstanding user interface. However Mac's are transistioning to Intel chips right now. I'd hold off on getting one until the teething and software problems are over. I'd test drive a few and really check out the screen, keyboard and pointing device – especially the size and resolution of the screen. You'll be spending hours infront of this thing. If your a road warrior weight, size and battery life are important too. Personally, I think IBM Tseries is the best for small laptops http://www-131.ibm.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?storeId=10000001&catalogId=-840&langId=-1&categoryId=2072541 Sony VAIO for larger desktop replacement that you can shove under the couch. http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/SY_BrowseCatalog-Start?CategoryName=cpu_VAIONotebookComputers&CP=sony_hm_nav_elec_nbkshop B. 19. jezus coke! Not even cola on my current budget. Mrs Benno is not working at the moment and she is "helping" out by saving money by only shopping for things that are on special. Atleast I don't feel so bad about not being match fit, I can't afford the tank of gas to get to the dropzone! Roll on pay day: I've got a jump suit and a canopy to save up 4. Please don't tell me if jump tickets have gone up Blue Dreams Benno

  23. Many electronic components, such as capacitors have limited lives. I would also think their is a limit on the effective/economic life of the PCB, solder, button and cables. Remember that this thing was probably designed in the late 80's. Since then there has been tremendous advances in electronics, hence the longer live of newer AADs. It is without doubt that anyone using any AAD significantly outside of the manufactures recommendation is endangering others. Blue Dreams Benno
  24. Your going to charge me to become a customer? I hope you can split the fee between a group of people and that the instructor who conducts the exercise gets a decent cut. That wouldn't be completely unfair. If you frap in, do you need to pay the the DZSO to fill out the incident report? Which I sincerely hope will not occur - happy holiday, tops place Have a great time. Blue Dreams Benno
