??? for all EMT's, Paramedics, Nurses, Doctors etc...
MrFreefall383 replied to iluvtofly's topic in The Bonfire
Not an EMT or emergency healthcare provider by any stretch of the imagination, but I'm about to ship out to Coast Guard Basic and become a rescue swimmer, so I'll probably be facing the same problem in a couple years. I think the reality is that if you work in a field where death of someone under your care is a real possibility, you have to think as realistically as you can. My parents have both faced this problem, and have shared some of their experiences with me in this regard. The realistic side of it is simply that sometimes, death is not something that can be defeated. Read a book by a former rescue swimmer, and he described three cases. One is the victim who will survive no matter what you do, whose injury is very much non-life-threatening. Second is the one who will die no matter what you do. You trust that your skills are the best they can be, but you know that it's going to take a series of miracles for this person to make it. The final one is a case where the person is on the fine edge of life and death, where if you really are on top of your game, this person may stand a chance of living. In the second two, you have to tell yourself that if the victim dies, you did everything in your power, and that sometimes death is really beyond your control. And especially as an EMT, you will likely see death more than you'd care for, so it more than likely won't be the last time you'll lose someone. From what I gather though, you seem to be on top of your game, and that will keep your outlook positive, despite your natural questions right now. Congrats on your first cardiac arrest call, and sorry the victim didn't make it. "If at first you don't succeed... well, so much for skydiving." - aviation cliche -
Awesome. Apparently a little old, my buddy had already seen it, but still funny as hell. "If at first you don't succeed... well, so much for skydiving." - aviation cliche

Looks amazing. I wasn't originally a fan of the games, but I recently started playing Contracts, and I was really psyched when I found out they were making it a movie. "If at first you don't succeed... well, so much for skydiving." - aviation cliche

Would've said rip one, but since it's phrased as "fart for effect and affection," can't exactly follow through with that. Bend over is my vote. "If at first you don't succeed... well, so much for skydiving." - aviation cliche

Isn't there something in the Hippocratic Oath about not deliberating inducing nausea in your fellow man? Was going to say the same, but I wouldn't have said it quite so eloquently. Thanks. "If at first you don't succeed... well, so much for skydiving." - aviation cliche -

Not all men are so concerned about looks that they'll use that as the sole deciding factor on whether or not they should have a long-term relationship with a woman. Personally, I'd rather someone who's engaging, enjoyable to be around, someone who I could just cuddle up on the couch with and watch a movie, that kind of thing. Looks are certainly a plus, but they don't mean everything. "If at first you don't succeed... well, so much for skydiving." - aviation cliche -
You as well. Don't do anything too stupid. "If at first you don't succeed... well, so much for skydiving." - aviation cliche

Damn good show, and I think the writers going on strike is going to piss me off very shortly. As for this week's episode, it was interesting. I guess I should've suspected Mack knew something when he said to the colonel in the holding room, "I keep thinking about Hector." Had to know it was coming, and when I saw his truck parked down the street from his house when Ryan left, I wasn't all that shocked. November 16th Friday FITNESS Fanatics...Report!
MrFreefall383 replied to ACMESkydiver's topic in The Bonfire
Sorry to hear you've got bronchitis. Shoulders are still hurting. I can still move them just fine, but at certain and very specific points in my range of motion, they hurt in specific spots. More my left, but that's what makes it weird. My right should be hurting first, that's the one which suffered a collar bone break over a decade ago. Anyway, if I can still move it, it's still an asset, so I'm still not worried for the moment. If it starts to hurt more frequently or in more spots, then I'll start considering having it checked out. OK, small updates this morning. Swam 1500m of endurance laps yesterday, and did 300 situps, 300 flutterkicks, and 300 side crunches this morning. "If at first you don't succeed... well, so much for skydiving." - aviation cliche -
Thing is, I have found happiness for myself, I really don't have very many regrets about things I've done the last few years while I was in college, and after I finally graduated. Problem is I still believe that was the worst decision I've ever made. Changing screennames was for many other reasons, but it provided a good opportunity to try one more way to get in touch with her again. As I said in my last post, my only intention is to get myself an opportunity to tell her how I feel. If she never talks to me again after that, so be it, at least I expressed my true feelings to her. Just need some closure, and eventually maybe I'll forgive myself. "If at first you don't succeed... well, so much for skydiving." - aviation cliche

I think I need more than luck, more like a miracle, but thanks. Stupid mistake, probably not correctable, but my expectations are low. My only realistic hope is to eventually tell her how I still feel about the situation between us. Even if she never talks to me again, at least I was 100% honest with her, and she deserves that much from me. "If at first you don't succeed... well, so much for skydiving." - aviation cliche

Many times. Most recently I changed screennames as no other means had worked, and finally saw her online, said a brief hello, did a little catching up before she had to get back to work, but that was over a week ago, and I haven't been able to get a response from her since. I'm going to stay patient, just try to say a casual hello whenever I see her online, and hope she keeps talking, although my suspicion is that she's really moved on with her life, and doesn't want anything to do with me anymore. My own stupid fault I guess. "If at first you don't succeed... well, so much for skydiving." - aviation cliche

LOL, for a second I thought you were my friend from Sacramento, CA... He still obsesses over his ex from many years ago... Her name was Sara as well. I think I'm going to make it a rule to never date a Sara. Ha, yeah, good rule. Except this Sara was the best thing that ever happened to me, I just didn't realize that until after I broke up with her. Yeah, what the one above me said. Thanks -Me "If at first you don't succeed... well, so much for skydiving." - aviation cliche

That's a fun one. "If at first you don't succeed... well, so much for skydiving." - aviation cliche

So it seems you're being very realistic and rational about this. You're not hanging onto a hopeless situation, and you're not taking your friend's words as a direct mandate to resume your previous relationship. Might I ask why you two broke up in the first place? If you don't feel like answering, that's perfectly fine, it's not really my business, just want to get a better picture. First, to bigway. Yes. And to swedishcelt, you're right, faith hurts. It's worth believing in something though. To be honest, I have little faith left because of my history in relationships. And after breaking up with the best thing that ever happened to me, let's just say love really is blind. Blind and stupid. "If at first you don't succeed... well, so much for skydiving." - aviation cliche
-
I don't know if that question can answer all others. Love is a strong feeling to have, even if you've broken up with someone, or they've broken up with you. Working theory here is that if love really is love, then no break in the relationship can stop it, and no reasoning for a breakup will stick, you'll find a way to get over it. The question I think we should ask is, do you really love him, even though he's your ex, or is it lust? Lust is an entirely different animal, so make sure you're very clear on the differences. And since you mentioned you were slightly intoxicated, it could be you're not thinking that clearly, just with less inhibition as happens with me. Look forward to your thoughts. Swam again this morning, 1500m of fins and snorkel swimming to get used to the snorkel again, and 500m of kick development. "If at first you don't succeed... well, so much for skydiving." - aviation cliche -
I'm still in love with my ex too. That's not supposed to happen to a guy. If it makes you feel better, it's been over 6 years since I broke up with her, and have not yet forgiven myself for making such a stupid decision. I just get drunk when I need to, and try to minimize the thinking I do about the situation. And it never works. Oh, and how fun, her name was Sara.
