  1. Many DZs' waiver actually has a model release section. Most of them states that anyone can be photographed the DZ and its associates can use the images for any purpose.
  2. The new 4K Black Magic looks very promising for $2995 only. Global shutter, on board ssd recorder for 880Mb/s for RAW or 422 ProRes, LANC (for CamEye and Hypoxic in our world), Canon lens mount, 12 f stop dynamic range, and compact size and weight. It would be cool if this camere really as good a it looks on paper. http://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/blackmagicproductioncamera4k
  3. I can still make costume cables... If you give me the specs most likely I can make one. PM to me please if you're interested!
  4. Hi all of you CReW dawgs, If anyone is interested all my photos from this last camp organized by Mike Lewis at Lake Wales, FL can be viewed here: http://www.laszloimage.com/2014/January_2014/# Thank you for having me, it was great to jump with CReW as always! Laszlo
  5. $55 at the Ranch. Video guy provides a DVD and a picture CD, no other options, every jump is a "video&still" package. Most Northeast DZs pay in a $50-60 range...
  6. "who is the dealer?" Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobil....
  7. Nice. But I have another note... The TM/I should "fly" the exit instead having his hand on the drogue handle right at the door while the relative wind hitting him from the side. He's just about turning himself into a "yo-yo"... I know the rest of this discussion should go to the instructors forum after this
  8. Thank you Spot! I actually got to see both the pro and the prosumer version at the PDN expo a month ago... While it was a photo event, all manufactures were promoting their video/movie capabilities too. Canon was pushing the 1Dc and its 4K cine stuff (and of course displaying/promoting the C500 as well). They were making large prints from 4K frame grabs... Sony displayed the AX1 and the PXW-Z100... There were a few 4K displays too from Samsung, Sony and etc... They're stunning for sure. Nice article! Laszlo
  9. That video is actually very funny. Thanks for sharing it!
  10. Thanks! Then this new thread was "refreshment"
  11. For tandems I use a modified point&shoot camera
  12. Does anyone remember this music video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-JAFppD_cGY from back in the days when MTV was about music??? It's very cool...
  13. Thank you Spot! ...5D MK III didn't have uncompressed 422 HDMI originaly, Canon had to make a firmware update. 5D MK II only does uncompressed with Magic Lantern as far as I know. These two new cameras are very promising in "DSLR kinda " video world. It would be great to record pro quality audio on the same device.
  14. Last week I was in New York City visiting the PDN expo. I saw many cool and useful things for skydiving... But these two were mind blowing: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1008114-REG/sony_ilce7_b_a7_mirrorless_digital_camera.html http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1008112-REG/sony_ilce7r_b_a7r_mirrorless_digital_camera.html They are similar size and weight of the NEX series with an additional "Leica feel" (the buttons and dials). They also work with non Sony lenses through adapters manufactured by these guys: http://www.metabones.com/ Sony actually was promoting this 3rd party accessory during the expo. The 1080 60p 4:2:2 uncompressed video through HDMI is an impressive feature as well. DSE any field experience with these new toys yet? How's the audio recording with that external Sony adapter?
  15. I use a modified Bone Head Flat Top Pro for pro camera work. The 70-200mm shot was hand held, taken from the door.
  16. In the UK PAL DVDs will display 525 lines. So it doesn't matter if you record in 720 or 1080 HD format because ultimately it will be down converted (reduced) to Standard PAL Definition when you create a DVD, therefore you'll be able to see only SD detail (525) in the picture. Here in the US it will be only 480 lines (NTSC), which means even less details.
  17. Same as Canon 1Dx There's no general gear setting either when you drive a car. Light and action conditions similar to skydiving exist on the ground too. So to learn and practice to set up the camera first I would read its manual, read some photo books/articles, and take test shots on the ground to see the results between diffrent setting.
  18. By standardization I mean a few things. Equipment isn't the only factor to provide descent video/still product. Just because some owns a better camera gear it doesn't mean he/she can properly use it. Most camera people in the sport are skydivers jumping with cameras vs. photographers who learned to skydive. So standardization also should require the same knowledge and skill level of photography of every cameramen/camerawomen. And yes everybody should use a very similar equipment so each coustumer would receive a relatively same product for the same price. It can be achieved with two GoPros as well. Of course the client (tandem passenger) should be charged accordinly... If you go to the mall please check out one of those photo booths where they take pictures of family and children! They charge more than a tandem video&still packege cost at most DZs, while from the photography stand point it's lot more challenging to take photos jumping out of airplanes. And while I'm not a big fan of the GoPros I have to agree with Trunk, they actually provide significantly better quality image than a Sony CX camcorder with one of the super wide single element lenses. I advocate descent quality product according with the payment. A $45-55 payment per jump for a camera person actually CAN provide descent pruduct even with GoPros.
  19. +1 As an addition... Years ago actually I wrote something about the cost effectiveness of tandem videos&photos... Generally it was saying that an individual costumer has to cover all the expenses (slot, labor, DZ profit), while in the production world a whole audience covers all of the cost. I love jumping with my 5D+ L lenses+ flashes or high end camcorders, but only if there's a return from it. (not always $ value though...) ...and as many other camera men besides Trunk already mentioned the neck issue and it's medical consequences. The two GoPro set up can be an issue though if other staff members at the same DZ use better equipment. Standardization can help with those issues...
  20. I don't think a ring sight (camera sight) is a fashion item of freefall photography. I think (actually I know) a sight is an important piece of the camera helmet/set up in order to have proper framing and composition.
  21. Yes it does. PM to me if you're interested!
  22. I used Canon 5D Mark-II, Canon 70-200L f2.8 IS lens at 200mm F2.8 Full manual setting with burst mode. Basically hoping for the camera is taking a shot or two in 5frames/second in the moments when the jumper is passing through that very narrow focus range which was total of 30 feet (10m) from 140 feet to 170 feet while the lens was focused to 150 feet. And it did...
  23. Some telephoto exit shots of West Point cadets from yesterday: http://www.laszloimage.com/2013/August_2013/#Aug_7_13_024_BW.JPG http://www.laszloimage.com/2013/August_2013/#Aug_7_13_028_BW.JPG http://www.laszloimage.com/2013/August_2013/#Aug_7_13_034_BW.JPG http://www.laszloimage.com/2013/August_2013/#Aug_7_13_043_BW.JPG http://www.laszloimage.com/2013/August_2013/#Aug_7_13_040_BW.JPG http://www.laszloimage.com/2013/August_2013/#Aug_7_13_039_BW.JPG
