  1. "I'm all jacked up on Mtn. Dew, I'll come at you like a spidah monkey!!" -Talladega Nights "Sometimes you eat the bar, and well-sometimes the bar eats you..."
  2. I learned how to propack from a kid who was 12. Age means nothing. "Sometimes you eat the bar, and well-sometimes the bar eats you..."
  3. Priapism. Sucks for the guy who has it. (His brain is jacked). Sucks if you're the guy who actually went looking for (and found) it. Oh yeah-it's a hard on secondary to head injury. "Sometimes you eat the bar, and well-sometimes the bar eats you..."
  4. I just recently passed Registry and finished my Paramedic license. I've been on scene w/ two patients who hooked in low and impacted hard. The first patient was badly injured. As a Paramedic sudent, w/ a Parmedic (my instuctor at the time) I did an assessment and maintained the patient's airway, directed the control of C-spine and controlled obvious external hemorhage. Once the on duty medic arrived we assisted as needed. The second patient was myself- after a really good example of how not to pilot a canopy I landed w/ cracked ribs and a dislocated hip. I did more advanced stuff (beyond the scope of a registered Medic), but I was working on myself. In allmost all scenarios encountered in parachuting injuries-3 things happen: 1The patient is totally compromised. 2The patient has many life threatening injuries. 3The patient has localized injuries that are uncomfortable. In all cases BLS manuevers are the most important. Air way open, Patient breathing or being ventilated, Circulatory insults reduced and bleeding controlled. Will an IV save a patient-prolly not, people bleeding need blood not NS to flush what little perfusing fluid left in them out. Does intubation secure the airway-yes, but a Combitube will do the same job and not get you killed in court. The ALS stuff is deff way cooler, but at what cost? Per NREMT-BLS manuevers are cool, if you step outside of Basic skills (ie IV therapy, intubation or ALS drugs, etc), however, you are practicing medicine w/o the blessing of a doc. The Paramedic License (and I'm fairly certain the Intermediate's as well) only cover your ass if you are working under direction of a MD. I'm all for helping out at the DZ if someone is misfortunate enough to get hurt. C-Spine gear, O2/BLS airway stuff, trauma dressings and splints are great tools and should be used by any one w/ appropriate training. Just remember guys, Medics don't save bad traumas-they just prolong death untill deffinitive treatment is reached-Cold Steel and Bright Lights. But hey, what do I know-I'm only 20! 5. Congrats to Jay! But watch out-young Evan Stokes claims to be the next record holder-wait and see... "Sometimes you eat the bar, and well-sometimes the bar eats you..."
  6. Mountain Biker 10yrs Rockclimber 8yrs Kayaker 6yrs Skydiver 2yrs Scuba diver, Roadie, sort of employed, snowboarder, water skier, sailor for the past few years here and there. Some basic truths involved with the pursuit of so many fun (but expensive sports) 1 you will have to work hard to pay for the gear, maintenance, etc. 2 your paddling friends get sick of you allways being at the DZ and vice versa 3 it is very difficult (maybe impossible) to be a master at any one-proficient, accomplished and skilled enough to enjoy the sport safely is quite acheivable, however. 4 gas for continuous road trips-yeah... 5 the combo of sports works if you have different goals for each one, enjoy the people you hang out with in each of the sports and are ADD like me-I bounce from one to the next and never get bored. you'll also find that you can learn things about one sport and apply it to another.(ex: in a kayak-balance and control originate in your hips, same goes for a lot of freefly positions, hips over your feet & close to the wall in climbing.) 6 have a good income/budget well or go in debt. Good luck with paddling. Once you get gear it is way cheaper than jumping.Learn how to do things such as off side rolls, hand rolls and Pawlatta or extended paddle rolls. (and practice them as much as you practice more popular maneuvers.). LEARN HOW TO READ WHITEWATER!! So many people forgo this old school skill and get in trouble b/c they missed a very dangerous feature, thinking it was insignifigant. Never forget how incredibly powerful moving water is. Stay safe, have fun. Blue Skies, Fair Winds and Following Seas (or rivers in this case.) "Sometimes you eat the bar, and well-sometimes the bar eats you..."
  7. I learned to flat pack b/f I started sport jumping. I paid a 15 y/o kid $25 to teach me to propack-took about 2 hrs, the dude even took time out of his schedule to help me with issues as I packed later. Best money I ever spent. 8. I used to be really big in the Christian music thing-only listen to the OC Supertones these days though... "Sometimes you eat the bar, and well-sometimes the bar eats you..."
  9. NC is nice-great mtn biking, a couple of DZ's (I have only jumped @ Chris Spence's Roaming DZ @ Brown-Anderson Airfield (or something like that) and it was sweet!!), oh yeah-some of the best white water on the east coast, climbing, hillbillies that think kayakers and skydivers are all satan worshiping crazies!!! and of course lots of fog-it is still pretty sick!! "Sometimes you eat the bar, and well-sometimes the bar eats you..."
  10. My first container was a '93 Vector II. I posted the same question here almost a year ago and was basically told not to do it under any circumstances. I looked for an opinion elsewhere and had a rigger check the rig out. The only velcro on my rig was in the riser covers and it was in good condition. I also had the rig converted to a BOC when I bought it and added bridle protection. I put about 40 sit fly jumps on it and the rig was super secure. I never flew it head down, and was very careful about how I stowed the risers/secured the riser covers. I got away with it-but the possibilty of a premature opening was always present in the back of my mind (and still is with my Infinity or any rig for that matter)...Make sure your closing loop is tight too-I've seen a couple of people have premies on modern, state of the art, supposedly "FF friendly" gear due to a loose pin... Also-if you are just getting into freefly-spend the money on audibles-they won't pull for you-but they might help you maintain alt awareness... As with anything-equipment maintence and attention to detail go a long way in determining whether or not your rig is safe to FF. And don't forget-ask riggers, experienced freeflyers, etc. at your DZ. Are you planning on doing a lot of FF or are you just wanting to check it out? Can you afford to get a more secure rig? These are things you need to consider...Ultimately the decision is up to you-but I'd start saving for a little more security... "Sometimes you eat the bar, and well-sometimes the bar eats you..."
  11. Most units are using the new stuff. If you go to Benning you'll use the same old shit w/ velcro stabilizer straps. Least that's what we had when I went in early 05.... "Sometimes you eat the bar, and well-sometimes the bar eats you..."
  12. I'm considering buying a Cypres that needs it's four year. It supposedly has one fire and I know very little about the device. Haven't jumped one since I've had my own gear but had a low pull this weekend after loss of altitude awareness in a two way freefly. I plan on avoiding that in the future but intend to have a back up plan. How much will it cost me to get a four year and are there any big considerations with the device allready having had a fire? "Sometimes you eat the bar, and well-sometimes the bar eats you..."
  13. who care what Chuck Norris/Stitch have going on-it's funny, random and wierd-good stuff.... "Sometimes you eat the bar, and well-sometimes the bar eats you..."
  14. Why??? I said Tigger cause I like to bounce-no hate intended, but what does this have to do with anything? Please edjimicate me on why personal resemblence to a character from Winnie the Pooh is important-just curious... "Sometimes you eat the bar, and well-sometimes the bar eats you..."
  15. My parents signed for me to enlist when I was 17 knowing I was going to be jumping as part of my job. They thought I wouldn't get to do it much and it wasn't something they thought about a lot early on. After my first jump-they thought it would be something I just did once in a while. Now that i sport jump-and spend almost every weekend at the DZ-they suspect what they always have-that I'm a little crazy-not b/c I wan't to jump-but b/c I spend so much money doing it! Mom's doing a tandem in the near future and is pretty open to the idea. Dad says his feet stay on the ground-we'll see about that!!! "Sometimes you eat the bar, and well-sometimes the bar eats you..."
  16. Our DZ pays me $7 to pack student/rental rigs. ' ' ' ' $15 for tandems. I charge experienced jumpers $5 for personal rigs. "Sometimes you eat the bar, and well-sometimes the bar eats you..."
  17. wow-why don't the 18-20 y/o chicks I date have the intelligence you do?!?!?! "Sometimes you eat the bar, and well-sometimes the bar eats you..."
  18. Never been able to have a signifigant relationship w/ a whuffo-but then again-long term usually doesn't work out any way....haha Last GF-met at the DZ-dated her 4 months till I moved out west-homelessness is a bitch...still pretty fun most of the time though... "Sometimes you eat the bar, and well-sometimes the bar eats you..."
  19. I hung out w/ you @ Thomaston-you were cool then, prolly don't remember-but thanks for the use of you RV...haha-good memories. Went to the roaming dz in the smokies (I can't remember the name of the airport-I'll have to look in my log book) awesome time. You're a good dude-but you gotta quit hanging out w/ Danny! hahaha this is a joke right? You're not that insecure? I hope? just kidding! "Sometimes you eat the bar, and well-sometimes the bar eats you..."
  20. just learned what priapism is, like - 5weeks ago-I still check for them in trauma lanes now in the P course - small world. Oh hey-thanks for the advice on Skydive Cal City-prolly one of the nicest DZ's I've been to! Good times, awesome facility, great staff, nice aircraft-sweet! Scuba?

Got my Open Water C-Card from PADI when I was 16-have 50 dives (most are night dives on Draegers, w/combat load.) Did'nt dive again till after I enlisted. Made my first skydive 10 months ago-have nearly 100 jumps now-you do the math as to which I prefer to spend money on!!! Diving is cool-but I think it is more geared towards old retired guys in FL...If you want to make things interesting though-strap a Draeger on, w/weapon, ammo, ruck (radio/gear), canteens, LBE, etc. then-hit the water late at night-swim 5 mi w/ all that shit on-bumping into fish bigger than you-and IF-you stayed on azmyth w/ you compass-hit the beach and start a war!!! "Sometimes you eat the bar, and well-sometimes the bar eats you..."
  23. -jump safe and stay alive -make as many jumps as possible -actually graduate MFF -start flying camera -get coach rating -improve FF skills -improve canopy skills -date a whuffo-just to prove that I can!!! "Sometimes you eat the bar, and well-sometimes the bar eats you..."
  24. Really want to improve my canopy piloting skills and have read a few articles about GLC lately. Really interested b/c it looks like a cheap way to improve skills (no lift ticket!). I was really tempted to try to fly my rig off a slope in the desert in southern CA a couple of days ago, but presence of mind over came and I decided to do some homework first. Who is "the" GLC guru? What are the legal issues to consider? Safety? (I mean a lot of it is obvious, but I'm sure there are things to consider that aren't obvious..) Want to try everything the sport has to offer and I want to get a few more jumps b/f I try BASE, etc. "Sometimes you eat the bar, and well-sometimes the bar eats you..."
  25. Planning on spending a weekend at Skydive California City-any one on here jump there on a regular basis? Allready called the DZ and they seem pretty squared away-would really like to meet people that jump there often, though... Any info is appreciated, Thanks "Sometimes you eat the bar, and well-sometimes the bar eats you..."
