  1. We just did that at our dropzone with a Jack Russell named Mindy. I think it was her 8th jump. Earlier this summer I believe she was the first pooch to ever do a downplane! God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  2. Okay, rant warning... So, I bought a canopy online last week, and asked the seller to get it here by today, as I'm working @ the DZ this weekend and have already sold my last main. He kind of drug his heels a bit and left it kind of to the last minute to ship, but he chose a service that would get it here with a day to spare: UPS Expedited. I wasn't too impressed with this, as I've had bad experiences with UPS in the past, like them delivering a Cypres to the wrong address, and I'm sure everyone knows about the exorbatent brokerage fees they collect, but I didn't ask him not to ship UPS, so I can hardly be upset about that. Anyhoo, they "guaranteed" it to be here by the end of yesterday. When it didn't show yesterday, I called them, and they told me they were sorry for the delay, but it was held up in customs, blah, blah... So it still hasn't shown up today (1230hrs) and when I called, they just said, "Oh, it will be there by the end of the day, it's already on a delivery truck." When I asked them what the end of the day meant, they told me 8:00PM!!!! So now, I have to wait around at home and not go to the DZ until possibly 8:00 instead of leaving at 4:00 like I should be. I asked them if they could leave it at the depot, and I'd come pick it up this morning, but they told me that they're required to make at least one delivery attempt. I shudder when I think of how much this is going to cost me when it gets here too. I bought a reserve ($700) and it was shipped UPS a while ago, and I believe brokerage was in the $130 range. Grrrrrrrrr..... God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  3. Yeah, I built a 2 ring cutaway for the chincup on my wife's FF2. It only took about 1hr of time and about $5-10 worth of parts. I can send you pictures/part list if you'd like. God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  4. Well, I've yet to have to cut the stuff, but I'll be the first to say: Nice job on the canoe patch! God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  5. Damn, two people beat me to it! Yeah, waxing your lines would only attract dirt that would abrade your lines. Don't do it. God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  6. I see what you're saying, the whole pic looks really "liney." My mind just isn't seeing a chest ring though, weird. God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  7. Well, I can dig that the pic may be reversed, but I'm not sure about the chest ring thing. I'm not sure if you have a PG catalogue with you Phree, but in the orriginal (much harder to tell in the scanned version), it seems to me that you can make out the "ribs" on the cable housings. God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  8. I'm going to have to agree with you 'twardo, it seems to be in the correct orientation. God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  9. Okay, everybody pull out the 07-08 Paragear catalogue and look at page 21, the ad for the Icarus Neos. If you look closely at the jumper's left MLW, you'll see three housings going between the mudflap and the chest strap. As far as I can tell, only one housing exits the chest strap, or at least that's all you can see. You can also only see one cable going into his pillow handle, and it's quite hard to tell colour, but it looks silver to me. What the heck are these housings for? I find it unlikely that someone jumping what looks like about an 80 sq. ft. canopy would be using a SOS system, but I guess it could happen. Is this some kind of set up for a three canopy system for testing new wings? Perhaps a rig that used to be SOS and still has the housings in place? Any other ideas, or better yet, facts? Thanks all! 10. That's my guess. Too many little blue pills could cause a dangeroud drop in one's BP. God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  11. I'd imagine you could find both from Mirage, as they're the only rigs that have it that I know of, but I could be wrong. I'll try to take some pics of the ones I know if this weekend. God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  12. Yeah, there are two new rigs @ our DZ that have it. Apparently you can take them off and wash them seperately without having to wash the entire rig. God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  13. To echo what Bob said, 400-450 jumps on a vectran lineset is about right for replacement. They don't shrink and go out of trim like spectra, but they do snap when they get old. God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  14. The only other concern I would have is that if the patch should come off for some reason, you're left with a big spot of adhesive on the rig. That in itself isn't a big deal, but stuff like dirt, etc... will stick to that, and little grains of sand or what have you can cut fibers and do damage to the rig. 15. I don't have time to find it on the Apex site, but I do recall reading something along those lines now... It was to prevent tail inversions, with the added bonus of preventing line-overs. Sorry. God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  16. Damn, someone beat me to it! That would be my biggest concern by far. BASE canopies deployed with no slider or the slider tied to the links/risers are nearly always equipped with a device called a tailgate. A device who's primary function is to prevent the line-over that would be much more likely with no slider grommets to control the steering lines. 17. I'm not an alcoholic, but my tape worm drinks like a son of a bitch!" God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  18. Yeah, I always make sure to check it very thouroughly on repacks. If it ever eeked it's way out of the channel, it could prevent a cutaway. God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  19. That's quite funny, as I did the exact same thing with both my rig and my wife's. I's only been there for 100 jumps or so now, but it's working well. That chanel made from binding tape sure does work well though! God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  20. Ahhh, or that! God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  21. Correct me if I'm wrong, but did't RI come up with the teflon riser housing? God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  22. I sould see that happening if it was previously damaged by some other means. Sean LR God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  23. Like was said above, the 3 ring system is a system of levers, giving you about 200:1 mechanical advantage at the handle. That means if you weigh 200lbs, and are just flying flat and level, there is one pound of force on the locking loop/release cable assembly. I don't have my literature in front of me, but I seem to remember that the cable has a strength of 620lbs, and the locking loop has a breaking strength of around 250lbs. Can someone correct my numbers if they're wrong? God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.

  25. Well, I hunted a bit further, and in conjunction with this thread, I have managed to find the spec. Thanks everyone. Perhaps I'll post once I measure and find how different it it from spec. God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
