  1. I'm guessing it was either a simple mistake, or probably just the type of person that believes that it's shit if it doesn't say Cypres on it... God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  2. You know, I'd never thought of that. I might have to swipe a neb mask from work and try it out. Can you think of another way to get enough air flowing into the neb to mist it? I mean aside from the obvious O2 tank. They keep a little bit of closer eye on those suckers. God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  3. Those are both great opinions, thanks very much guys. God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  4. So, I did a search, and found an older thread about lenses for Canon in this range, but seeing as Pentax is not anywhere nearly as common in the skydiving world, there was nothing about them. I shoot a Pentax *istDL and currently use the kit lens (18-55), as I'm debating between two different lenses Pentax makes. The first is a 10-17mm fisheye which is an f3.5. The second is a 14mm prime with an f2.8. I like the zoom lens because of the fact it can go all the way wide to 10mm, but I like the prime lens because it is faster. They're mainly for shooting tandems and freefly. I like to fly in docking range with tandems and take inside freefly shots, so I believe that is another vote for the 10mm. I know that some say prime lenses take better quality photos, is there anything to substantiate this, or is it just opinion? Does anyone have any experience with these lenses specifically? Thanks folks! God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  5. Well, I know this thread started a long ass time ago, but it got re-hashed recently, right around the time I got finished with my lid, so I thought, why not post it? As an aside, thanks to a lot of the people in this thread, and on the rest of the camera forum for ideas. The Goods: - Square 1 Hawkeye top and side mount helmet - Self-fiberglassed camcorder box - Sony PC120 video camera - Pentax istDL D-SLR still camera - Stroboframe 300-QRC quick release mount - Self made tongue switch shutter release (custom molded might I add!) - Hypeye Mini status indicator - Self made 2 ring cutaway system I say it's finished, but I've yet to get a ringsight, it will probably come later in the year. The only part of the setup I'm not very happy with is the finish on the box. I have to admit, patience when working with fiberglass and Bondo is not my strong suit, so I got tired of working on it and adopted an "Oh well, it's structurally sound" attitude. I also had to angle the box signifigantly to the right, leaving a large line-snaggable gap on the back side of the helmet, so once the box was sturdily mounted using hardware, I fiberglassed the gap over making it more or less flush. This as well is not perfect, as you can see the edge of the fiberglass sheet that was used under the paint. For paint I used a black epoxy based spray paint that is intended for use on kitchen appliances! Comments and criticisms are welcome (just be gentle on the criticisms part!) 6. Thanks Dave, that's exactly what I was getting at. God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  7. That product is for photos only it seems. God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  8. So, our DZ just bought one of these: http://tinyurl.com/33kbsm... with the intent of using it for tandem videos. I have yet to get a chance to play around with it, but I`ve been reading the manual for it trying to get it figured out beforehand. It looks like a pretty cool little unit, but we`re going to have to get a bit creative on the audio side. The problem is that you can only have one audio input. The DZO`s plan is to get a simple audio `crossfade box` if you will so we can plug the audio from the camera and the audio from an iPod etc... into it, and the output into the MC5 and fade back and forth between camcorder audio and iPod audio. I`m thinking that this will work fine, as long as the fader box has an output for headphones, as there is no audio output jack or speakers on the MC5, so you wouldn`t be able to hear what you`re burning until you put it in a DVD player. So my questions are: Is anyone using this? How about using it for tandems? Have you run into any problems? And finally, does anyone know where we`d look for the type of crossfade unit I speak of? Thanks folks! God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  9. Yeah, that's what I thought. I've done another one since and used Vectran for thsoe reasons. I wonder why it's not used from the factory, do you think it's a cost issue? God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  10. On the topic of kill line replacement, I have a question for you hook (and anyone else for that matter). What do you think about using Vectran for replacement of kill lines? I replaced mine a while ago and all I had on hand was Vectran. I only had the rig for another 50-75 jumps, but it seemed to work well. I imagine it would be like a line set, you might have to change it a bit more often than spectra, but it wouldn't shrink. Thougts? 11. Hmmm, I kind of thought that might be the case. Thanks! God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  12. Hey all, I'm looking to get a .3 lens, and have found a Cookie Liquid 3 on eBay. If the price stays right, I'd like to pick it up. The only problem is that it's a 30mm thread and my camera (PC120) is 37mm. The camera I'd eventually like to upgrade to has a 30mm thread, so if I can get away with using this lens with my camera with a step down ring, I'd like to do it, but I don't want to get any vignetting. Has anyone experimented with this combination? I'd like to know for sure before I buy it. I asked Cookie about it directly and all they did was give me a link to their website and tell me to buy a new one from them. Thanks! 13. Damn, I was all excited to see if someone had something for me when I saw someone had replied! Oh well, you're welcom I guess! God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  14. Hey all, I was in a local camera shop the other day and saw a silicone type skin covering for D-SLR cameras. I had to leave right away and didn't get a chance to investigate, but I googled it later and found this: http://store.made-products.com/collections/camera-armor I believe this is what I saw, but I can't remember a brand name so I can't be sure. The only problem is that they don't seem to make one for my camera which is a Pentax istDL. Does anyone know of a company that makes a similar product for my camera? 15. Sweet. Thanks a bunch, I never would have figured that out. God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  16. Hey all, I seem to be running into some dificulty with my PC 120. Neither a search of the forum or looking in the manual has helped thus far. I recently attempted to copy some footage from another camera (PC330) to my PC120. I've done this before on other PC cameras by finding the "Record Control" page in the VCR mode menu and going from there. However, I was unable to find this on the 120. I ended up having to switch the tapes in the cameras and send the footage from the 120 to the 330, which was not a problem, as finding record control on the 330 was not a problem. Can anyone help me out? Does the 120 not have the option of capturing footage via DV in? Is there somewhere in some menu I'm just not looking? Thanks guys and gals, take care! God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  17. So I'm looking to put up a web page to display all my sills, etc... and am extremely new at this whole web page building thing. What is a good, easy to use program I can get for authoring web sites? God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  18. The helmets that sinjin suggested are all great, but I differ slightly in my opinion for a camera. I am a ver big fan of the PC series for side mounting. I find that the HC's are just too wide and long, making side mounting them with few snag points very dificult. If you're looking for an inexpensive PC camera, check sources other than DZ.com. I recently bought a PC120 which had barely been taken out of the box for just over $200 on eBay. The PC series are worth a lot more to skydivers than they are to the average whuffo just because of their size/shape and the fact that they're no longer produced. Just my opinion, and you know what everyone says about opinions... God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  19. Am I the only one that thinks seeing seats in that plane is just wrong!?!? God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  20. If you're refering to 4 way VRW, they can be found here: http://www.drivevrw.com/site/TrainingTools/VRWDivePool/tabid/66/Default.aspx God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  21. My iPod's name is toggles, does that count? I also have a dog named Javlynn. God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  22. Like was said above, 135lb is the reccomended weight, not the TSO. I believe the MR is under TSO 23c which is 254lb. *someone please correct me if I'm wrong* God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  23. What you're describing is commonly refered to as a "tailgate" and is used heavily in BASE, most often in jumps made with no slider. It was orriginally invented to prevent tail inversions, but as was said above, is now used on some tandems with no d-brakes to lessen the occurance of line-overs. 24. Thanks for the tip. I've already had one person offer to help, but if it doesn't pan out, I'll try that. God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  25. Dang, I thought I was going to be the first to suggest a rubber grommet. That's what I use, it works really well. God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
