  1. I'm a south park fan. Not as much, but somewhat. I also love Futurama and Family guy. However, none of any of that kind of animation would exist if the Simpsons hadn't paved the way! God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  2. Just to give this a bit of a bump, does anyone have any ideas for alternatives for the ceiling? So far, I've got drywall, drop tile, and flat painting it black as plummeteer said. Anyone have any other ideas? God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  3. Okay... I was going to buy one of the Simpsons seasons today, and I realized I don't know which one to get! They have 1-9, let's have a vote. Which one is the best? God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  4. Okay... THAT was cool! Did you just hang on to it's "apex lines" as it was being inflated, and ride it the whole way up? God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  5. I'm not in the US, but I'm positive it's on every pack job, not just tandems. And as for the whole idea behind getting packers, that's why I don't. And my wife doesn't usually either, but she had a wrist injury that made packing especially painful. God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  6. We just visited another DZ and my wife employed the services of a few packers down there, and she ran into a lot of the same issues. When I unpacked the rig to wash the container, there was over 3' of unstowed line, steering lines not stowed, old rubber bands still on the keepers with new ones beside them, etc... Exactly like Terry said: nothing grossly neglegent, but concerning matters all the same, espacially on a higher loaded eliptical. I was quite curious to see how the "supervised by a rigger" thing worked down in the states (I'm in Canada), and I can say now that the purpose of the law is being totally undermined. From what I saw, there is little or no "supervision." Not saying that it's absolutely a bad thing, as we have no such rule/law in Canada. 7. When I was going to University, there was a little Cesars across the street that ran a $5 medium peperoni, all day, every day, no limits special. It was on a cardboard crust, used about 5 tbsp of sauce, and usually about 6 tiny ass pieces of peperoni. As far as taste was concerned, $5 was a rip-off. However, it did fill you up, and didn't require cooking. Needless to say, there was usually a stack of empty boxes beside my garbage several feet high. 8. I heard this from another rigger as well, but I'm still unsure about it's validity. Something about the length of the "hinge" that's created by the reserve bottom flap being an innefective length, I'm not sure if he meant it's too short or too long, probably too long. At any rate, I've yet to really examine one up close, but they sure look a lot like our Javelins, on which the p/c reaches full bridle extension, and tugs directly on the bag when it's popped. The issue could be with the way people are packing them as well. You need to remember that it did pass the TSO testing for reserve deplotment time, as it's packed in the manual. My vote is that it's brand loyalty/rig bashing. God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  9. The way I was taught was that unless you can fit your pinky finger through it, and it's not near a seam, it's OK. Just take a regular ball-point pen, and draw a nice box around it, along the lines created by the nylon. Take a look at it regularly and monitor it. The thing with patching is that the sewing required of a patch perforates the material several times, and you need to determine if you're actually doing any good by patching the hole. If you're just going to make more hole than you started with, it's not going to do you any good. The location of the hole is also of some concequence, as different parts of the canopy are exposed to more air pressure than others. Where is it? 10. Seconded. It's really important you learn all the basic info and firing parameters before using it. God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  11. We finally got them to agree to it after we took the rigs out of the gear bags, and spread them out exactly like was on the Vigil card. They kept saying how their xray didn't look anything like the card. God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  12. Negative, it was in a gear bag. God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  13. I just flew down to Phoenix (Edmonton--> Calgary--> Phoenix), and had some problems on the way down. We had our Vigil X-ray cards, TSA doccuments, Transport Canada doccuments, and still caught shit. They were about to open both containers up until i begged and pleaded with them not to, and managed to convince them. This happened to us both on our Edmonton to Calgary flight, and our Calgary to Phoenix flight, however, we had no problems on the way back at Phoenix or Calgary. I know of a friend of mine who checked her rig, and she began to get nervous when it never showed up on the baggage carousel at her destination. She eventually found it sitting on the floor near the "specialty baggage" area, with both contiainers open, the reserve p/c lying on the floor with a footprint on it, etc... It was rough. I know it may be more hassle and headache to carry it on, but I'd rather do that and be there if they're going to open it than show up and find it like that. 14. Yeah, those lengths are about right. I'll make sure to tell them, because if I were to just modify it after, that's more material to be squaezed into the main pack tray. Not that it'd be very signifigant, but I'd like the rig to be just barely big enough, so it's something to think about. 15. Holy crap, do you not want me to get anything done at work? That's awesome man. Congrats. Keep us posted on any updates! God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  16. Wow, that's exactly what I was looking for! Thanks for all of that. How much did he have the bridle lengthened by? Maybe I'll get them to do it when I order it. As for the rigger thing, I've been packing both my wife and i's javelins for a while now, i've heard they're somewhat similar to pack, and you can use a lot of the same tricks. Thanks so much for your post. God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  17. Yeah, that's more or less how i pack my jav now. Thanks! Any others with opinions? God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  18. Hmmm, it's not a bad idea actually. I'll have to think about it. It'd be a lot less physical effort than drywalling, but a lot more mental work and patience. God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  19. Haha, I like the dungeon idea. I've finished the walls, and about to start on the ceiling. Well, finished is a loose term, the drywall is up, but not mudded, taped, or sanded yet. I'm going to drywall the ceiling as well, should be fun. Right... fun... I just did standard drywalling for the walls, nothing fancy. I'm going to paint one wall bright orange though! I'll post pictures of my progress so far in a day or two, whenever I can find my camera! I wish I'd thought to take pictures before I started! God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  20. Yeah, I'm aware of the "freefly handle". I think I'll stick with the PUD, thanks though! God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  21. Hey everyone, I'm going to be getting a new rig sometime soon, and I'm heavily favoring the Wings so far. I'm going to be getting a pull out on whatever I get, and I'd just like to get some opinions on what the Wings pull out system is like. I've been jumping a pull out for a while, and I don't want this to turn into a pull out vs. BOC debate, just opinions on the wings specific pull out setup. Likes, dislikes, etc... Thanks! God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  22. I just finished the course, and to extend what Denren said, it is a lot of work. There are pre-requisites, but personally I don't think that's the big issue. There is way more to learn than you can squeeze into five days. Read your Poynters manuals (obsesively), study CSPA technical bullitens, manufacturer service bullitens, and manufacturer manuals. Ask all the questions about gear you can, and never stop trying to learn new stuff. I'm sure that Rob will fill you in big time too, he's an excellent rigger, and from what I've heard, an awesome rigger instructor. 23. It's kind of hard to tell what that is online, but I assume it's more of a low pile, office style, correct? Also, from a PM exchange, I guess it's prudent to mention that as far as rigging, it's prettymuch exclusively packing that's going to be going on, no machines, etc... God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  24. Hey all! So, after not too much time of dealing with the concrete and vaopur barrier dungeon that is my basement, I've decided to finish it so I can have a professional looking loft. (Can you call it a loft when it's in a basement?) I'm quite excited about it, and the thought of the finished product keeps me going through all the hard ass work! I'll post "in progress" pictures tomorrow, but I have a question for you in the mean time. What kind of carpet should I install? The space is going to be used almost exclusively for rigging, and I'm torn between a plush (like a regular living room) or low pile, office style. What are everyone's thoughts? Thanks! God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  25. I'll second that, 1.16:1 on an eliptical canopy like the diablo is a little hot for
