  1. I just thought I'd post this, as I don't knwo how many people are are aware that Square 1 has aquired the molds from Arrow Dynamics and is now making the Hawkeye camera helmet (as well as the aviator freefly helmet, which I already owned). I bought a brand new, cosmetic second from Square 1 on eBay, and it just arrived today. Wow! I was told that they had small cosmetic blemishes that made them unfit for selling at the full price, so I was imagining big paint chips, etc... I got it today, and I looked for a long time to find this cosmetic damage. Finally, I found a minute blemish on the internal audible pocket, which looked like a partial fingerprint in the gloss coat. I'm pretty sure the lid will sustain more damage the first weekend it sees use, as this thing was TINY! The workmanship on the helmet is great, it will be a breeze to mount my cameras to, it was very adapt at taking the cutaway I built for it, and it seems signifigantly lighter than the old hawkeyes. I bought the cosmetic second for $150 on eBay, and I think they're selling the production ones for about $250. Well worth the price. If you're looking for an open face camera helmet, check it out... 2. Thanks man, that's exactly what I needed. And as for buying one, this is more of a project to see what I can do. I have all winter, and if I need to buy one because I couldn't get it perfect, so be it. And they are expensive. I believe they're $269 for a BlackBox, which is more than I spent on the camera! I know I can get the BH cheaper, but I don't really like that style. Thanks again for the pics bigway. 3. I have looked on their site, but it doesn't show the angle I need. As for legality, I'm not trying to build multiple boxes and profit from it, I'm just doing this for myself. And I'm not trying to make a replica, just looking for ideas on one aspect of it... God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  4. Hey all, I'm building a box for my PC120 and am modeling it after the Cookie Blackbox, especially in regards to how it opens. I'm not too far along yet (just finishing the foam mold) but already I'm having a bit of a hard time visualizing how to cut the box in half. Can anybody help me out and post some pictures of the front view of a PC series Blackbox? I need to know where they make that cut so that it works with both the lens assembly and the bottom of the case. Is a completely linear cut, or does it change directions part way through? Thanks guys and gals. God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  5. Yeah, I'm really looking forward to talking to this broker and getting it settled, this is making me nervous. I've thought about incorporating too, it's probably a good idea. God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  6. Hey all, this question is mainly posed to Canadian riggers, as that's where I am, but you folks from south of the border feel free to chime in. I walked into my basement yesterday and took a good hard look at the $100,000 plus worth of student gear and sport rigs I have sitting there and wondered what the hell I'd say to the owners if my house burned down and my insurance didn't cover the rigs because they weren't mine. I called my insurance agent and asked him about if it was covered, etc... He said he couldn't sell me coverage because his underwriters wouldn't see past the fact that it was not just contents, but parachutes, and if I packed a reserve mal or something along those lines, they'd be on the hook if the family sued me. He recomended that I call a broker and talk to them, which I have yet to do as it's the weekend. I'm just curious what other people think, and what they do about this. I guess this mainly concerns riggers operating out of their home, but if you have a comment on this, please share. Thanks. 7. That's correct. The reserve was on the left and behind. It was kind of an ofset bi-plane. I flew it briefly, but the two canopies were not flying very well together, so I induced a downplane and then cutaway. 8. The exact thing that Junkie talked about happened to me a while back. I tossed (pull-out deployment) after a 8-10 sec delay from 3500' and got nothing. Reached again, felt a full container and figured I just had a floating PUD. I decided that I was too low to mess around so I went straight reserve, felt the main d-bag bounce off my ass as I was pulling my reserve handle. I stopped, but it was too late. Both canopies deployed, I steered them apart and cutaway. Realized later that bad communication between myself and the girl packing my rig led to an un-cocked p/c. I imagine it would have deployed at terminal with minimal hesitation, but sub-terminal it was just not quite enough drag right when I pulled to get it out. 9. You're going to have a hard time finding non compressible housings. As far as I know, the housings are only made in comressible and expandable, or compressible only. God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.

  11. A guy walks into a psychiatrist's office wearing saran wrap pants. The Dr. takes one look at him and says: "Well, I can clearly see your nuts." God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  12. I have just barely started doing tandem vids, only having about 15 under my belt, with only 2-3 TM's but I completely agree. I can say that on 15-20% of the ones that I've seen, they're holding the goggles. It's something that's totally easy to overlook, especially if it's really busy at the DZ. As long as they have a pair, everybody's happy. I've found that they worst offenders are the Kroop over the glasses style. They have to be torqued completely tight so that the giant sails that are the lenses don't flip off. God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  13. Didn't quite find what I was looking for, but thanks! God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  14. Hey all, I'm looking to pick up a remote flash connetion cord for the old still camera I have, but the only ones I can find on eBay, etc... are for specific cameras, and only for newer versions. The connections are just regular old hot shoes with the minimum 2 points of connection. Does anyone know where I could get something like this, or even just the ends, and I could make it myself. Thanks. God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  15. Yeah, that was definetly suposed to read ``hero.`` I did find it though, thanks! God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  16. Timeouts are far from crap. My wife uses one regularly and loves it's simplicity. As for instructions... just set the breakoff alt with the up and down arrow buttons. the pull beep is @3k and flatline is 1.5k. 17. I'll check the bitrate thing. If I can find that Enditall thing, you'll be my new herp. I've been wondering if such a product exists. God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  18. No, I dida bit of math, and 29% into the movie, it's changing songs, but it's not really any different than the first 2 or 3 times it does that. Does this "EndItAll" thing shut down all those stupid little programs running in the background? God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  19. I'm not a video expert, and I'm not sure what a Codec is, but I think that's the one. For output format, I chose "DV-AVI." I just want something I can burn a DVD from, so I tried MWV 3Mbps and it published fine, and it looks OK on the DVD so far. And yeah Dave, I tried restarting, the old windows fix all, but it did nothing. God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  20. Ahh, this didn't work the first time I tried to start this thread, so I had to re-type my entire post, and I forgot to put that part. The HDD is NTFS, that was my thought too. Any other thoughts? God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  21. OK, before I start, I know I'm going to get at least a couple "Get a real program" responses, and I can't really stop that, but I am in a bit of a jam and really need some help. I've just finished my year end video in WMM 6.0 and it won't publish it to AVI format. Every time I try to publish it, it start out fine, showing 0% completed and 35 min remaining, but when it gets to 29%, the progress stops going up, and the time remaining starts going up. I'm about to get Premiere elements, but I really don't have time to re-do this entire project (32min long) as the year end party/video contest is very close. Thanks guys and gals. God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  22. You're best to contact the manufacturer as the previous poster stated, but you might run into problems with shrinkage. My initial reaction would be that the tapes might shring more than the nylon. God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  23. I don't have any pictures of it, but I built a cutaway for my wife's FF2 which came without one. It's basicly like the the one pictured, but the loop does not go through the chincup, but rather just through the strap. A bit hard to describe, but quite effective. God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  24. I totally agree. Excess brake line should be stowed all the time. As for an elegant way, there's a system I believe I've seen on Mirages and Voodoos (could be wrong) with just a little piece of tape sewn on the front of the riser, just on the other side from the toggle. It doens't hold it super tight or anything, but it seems to do it's job. God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  25. Does anyone know where you can buy those rings? God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
