  1. No need to shhhh, it's a main, you can do whatever you want to it! God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  2. Hey all, I have kind of a weird request of a favour to ask of someone in Perris. I'm interested in purchasing something off of eBay but the shipper won't ship to Canada due to his distaste of Customs. I'm coming to Perris for 2 weeks in Feb and am looking for someone to ship it to that I can just pick it up from @ the DZ or in town or something. I know that this might sound a little shady, but I can assure you that it is 100% legal, and will go into more detail over PM or telephone if anyone is willing to help. I am more than willing to provide compensation in the form of libations, jump ticket, etc... for someone who will help. Just PM me if you're game, thanks guys and gals, take care!! 3. I know of three DZ's in Canada that use them. Pacific Skydivers, Alberta Skydivers and Niagara Skydivers have used them for two seasons now I believe. As far as I know they're happy with them, and the DZ in Alberta puts an outrageous number of IAD students under them. I'm sure riggerrob will post to this before too long, he works at the Pitt DZ, he might have something to add. You can go to their website as well: www.pacificskydivers.com. 4. Thanks Lou. I figured it out with the help of Google earlier today, but I'm going to see if I can get a little fancier with it! God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  5. I'll try Google, thanks. I hadn't even thouhg of that! God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  6. So I did a search and was unable to find what it was I was looking for so here goes... I can't figure out how to apply a watermark to photos in PhotoShop. I found a post (I believe it was by LouDiamond) saying that it's possible, as is doing batches of them, which is what I'm really interested in. Can someone give me some insight as to how to work my program? Thanks all!! God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  7. I'm not 100% on this, but I believe the black box is a top or side mount, so you can go either way. If you have no plans to get a still camera in the near future, I would definetly reccomend top mounting it. A guy at our DZ has an HC96 on the side of an MXV and it has some serious snag potential. the bottom corner of the box on the inside presents a massive snag point, as the helmet is quite rounded, and the box is only flush with the halmet for a couple inches. As for your orriginal question of what you'll need... I believe Cookie boxes come with everthing you need to mount it, but you might want to get a liquid flat lock, as you need to take the 96 out of the box to access the LCD screen, which I think is easier if you can remove the box from the helmet. 8. I don't know if Future Shop exists in the US, but I saw the boxing day flyer today (Canada) and they're selling Rebel XT's with the 18-55 kit for $399... Just thought y'all might like to know. God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.

  10. hmmm, not sure then, sorry! God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  11. From what you're describing, it sounds like ditry heads, have you tried a head cleaning tape? God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  12. A friend of mine has a canopy identical to the one in Dave's picture, and it's not that bad, but it is quite faded for it's age. It looks pretty cool though. PS: Dave, is that a 150 that guy has, and does he still have it? God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  13. I'm not sure about EEG (electro-encephologram) readings, (which is brain activity), but I have heard of people measuring things such as BP, HR, and skin conductivity during different phases aof the skydive. I can't quote a source on this, but what I heard was that in more junior jumpers, there was a large spike in physiological reaction just before exit, and then again at deployment time. The interesting part was that in people with thousands of skydives, the pre-exit spike was gone, but the pull time one remained. Again, don't quote me on any of this, I can't cite a source. 14. Cool. thanks for all you help guys. I wish it wasn't winter, I'd go try this all out tomorrow and let you know! God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  15. Makes sense. Thanks! God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  16. Well, I know this has nothing to do with skydiving, but I figured y'all might be able to help me out. I took this picture at a relative's wedding recently. Now, I hope everyone else can see what I see in it, which is the "heat" rising from the candles. I've never noticed it in pictures before, and I'm still trying to decide if it adds to or takes away from the picture. I'm pretty sure it takes away from it. How do I avoid it happening again? I was using the kit 18-55 lens on my Pentax istDL. I can't remember the settings 100% but I seem to remember it was about 1/60 shutter at about f4.5, with a dimly lit building and the built in flash. Thanks! God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  17. Perhaps it's a cannon/pentax thing, because when I set it to AF, it takes forever to shoot. I guess I'll have to learn with this and then get a camera that works better with a tongue switch later on... God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  18. So what setting do you use now? Do you find that it takes time for the camera to focus before it takes the shot, and that you're never really sure when it's taken the shot? God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  19. Yeah, I guess I should have specified that I'd be using MF, as the AF on this camera is not that compatible with the tongue switch. That is the main reason I wanted to get as big a DOF as I could. God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  20. That is prettymuch the exact same settings I was thinking of using, except I'm using a Pentax. Would you mind posting some pics you took on those settings? God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  21. So I did a quick search and found one thread similar to what I want to know, but not exactly, so I'm hoping someone can enlighten me. Has anyone experimented with shooting their DSLR in Aperature priority mode and setting the aperature high to give a better DOF? I know the argument that if for some reason you lose your light, the camera will give you a slower shutter speed and possibly create blurring, etc... but is that really a concern, especially on sunny days? I'd think that as long as you were sure you would have light, you could create a much deeper DOF with a higher f stop. I know the theory behind it, but I'm looking for opionions from people who have used it. Thanks! God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  22. Those are some of the nicest pictures I've ever seen! I especially like 00. God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  23. Thanks. I'm just a little ticked, as the lens I just worked out to a .8 is suposed to be a .45. It hardly widens the view at all! God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  24. Okay, time to re-hash this. I did some math and I want to know if it's correct. My still cam lens (Pentax DA 18-55) says that it's 18mm setting is comparable to 27.5mm in 35mm format, and my video camera (PC120) says that it's widest angle is 48mm at 35mm equivilant. Now, with the wide angle on the video cam, it frames the exact same amount as the still cam @ ~25mm as indicated on the lens. So from this, I can calculate that the 25mm written on the lens corresppnds to 38mm @ 35mm equivilant. So if a 48mm video lens with a wide angle captures the same image as a 38mm still lens, that means that the wide angle's actual multiplier is 0.8 (38mm / 48mm)right? 25. Yeah, what Jerry said about the Sidewinder. I believe Al (owner of Flying High, the company that makes it) orders all his reserve p/c's right from RWS. God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
