  1. A friend of mine has something like 9 in 900ish... God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  2. - Riser/harness turn toward DZ - Turn off Video - Test fire Still and then shut it off - Loosen Chest Strap - Unclip wings - Stow slider - Move ringsight out of the way. - Unstow brakes and fly/land. 3. Do you find that the added step of reeling in the bag and p/c is hazardous in traffic? I know in comp situations, it's a dedicated pass and only 3-4 out at a time, staggered opening altitudes, right? 4. This is great, you're doing all my debating for me! God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  5. Cool, thanks for all your responses guys. I never thought of re-connecting it waiting for the tandem to land, that's a good idea. I think I'll play it by ear until I see how quickly I can do it, etc... And to ErwinBDJ, I plan to start training this year, but as Frost was saying there are several other reasons for using a removable slider. I want the increased visibility and to improve the shape of my wing. God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  6. So I just ordered an RDS for my Xaos, and I have a question for people using RDS. Do you remove your slider on every jump? I'm talking about the slider only here, the full RDS (p/c and bag) will only be used for training/comp purposes, but I'd like to take advantage of the removeable slider all the time, but I'm worried about the time it will take to re-attach it after the jump, as I do mainly work jumps (Tandem Vid & IAD dispatches) during the weekends, and am often required to back up loads. Do you just stow it behind your head if you're going to be in a hurry when you get down, or does it take you so little time once you build a routine that it doesn't take much more time than un-stowing and cocking your regular slider? Thanks all... God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  7. Me flying my new baby. Try to disregard my gut hangin out! God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  8. You forgot pull-out, the only "real choice" God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  9. I've never trusted the pin and spring system shown on that model myself. I like it because it's very clean and has very few extreneous parts, but I would not trust it to release of there was already a load on the pin, which there almost certianly would be if you were trying to get rid of it. I built my own cutaway using the 2 small rings from a mini 3-ring system, a bit of webbing, some velcro and a bit of cutaway cable. Here's a picture of the helmet, if you'd like more detailed pictures of the cutaway exclusively, PM me and I'll take some. 10. I've found that the Mirage springs are no match for the Vectors. I'm usually hardpressed to get a Mirage p/c pinned down unless I have the container up against a wall. God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  11. I was extremely desperate for an A/V cable for my cam one night, and the only store left open was a Circuit City. The only cable they had was a "Monster Super Duper Gold Smelted High Definition" Cable. Sixty damn dollars!!! I still cry a little inside every time I use it... 12. Well, since you have no info in your profile, I'm not sure who you are, but I do respect MC's opinions. That being said, I have to disagree. Rear riser landings are something that can be done by low timers. I landed my Tri 190 on rears when a toggle came off the steering line @ ~30-40 jumps with no problems. In fact, if I think back, I believe it was in the FJC I took to land on rears should you have a broken steering line on your first jump. The reasoning behind that is that you have a fully inflated, flyable parachute over your head, and as much as nobody likes to think about it, riggers can make mistakes. I'm not sure about you, but I'd feel pretty dumb under a reserve mal just having cutaway from a good main with a broken steering line... 13. I jump a Xaos 21 loaded @ 1.8. The openings on that canopy are brilliant for flying camera. I know at least one or two full time videovraphers that swear by them too. Incidently, I used a rig with a Spectre 150 in it as a backup rig for shooting a 4-way camp... My neck will never be the same! 14. Actually, the Sidewinder, made by Flying High Manufacturing (TSO'd Rig) uses the same mesh-less p/c that the vector uses... As for the original topic, I'm not sold on fancy gimicks like magnetic riser covers, I likes me my G4. Plus, I got it in 6 or 8 weeks, and I've never had a problem with the riser covers! 15. Another... God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  16. Damn. So much for getting them for 4.99. The cheapest I can find is $13 for the same type of thing. God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  17. Cool, thanks JP. None of these online vendors seem to want to ship to Canada, so I guess I'll go see if the local Wal-Mart has any. Thanks everyone else, and thanks for the History Nick! God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  18. That would be 3 feet, not 3 inches. That's pretty deep to plant one of those suckers! God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  19. Cool, thanks for the links. I haven't seen the blades yet, so it might be exceedingly simple, but why is a 13' used for 10' blades? God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  20. So the DZ got some new wind blades, and I've been given the task of getting them set up. I've been racking my brains, (and searching the forums) trying to think of what to use as the pole that holds them up. I found one post that mentioned using "black widdow" fishing poles, but the only thing I found on the web by that name said it was 20' long! I have yet to see these blades, but I've been told that they're 8 or 10'. The only other idea we've had is using 1/2" or 3/4" PVC pipe. What has everyone else been using? What works best? Anything to avoid at all costs? Thanks! God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  21. Just got a PM from someone who knows him... I hope. I'll find out tomorrow I guess. God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  22. Bump?? God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  23. There is a gent with the username "SKYDAVE1" who has a canopy for sale in the classifieds I am interested in, but my attempts to contact him have all bounced back. Does anyone know this person? His profile is not very complete, so I can't help much in the way of where he jumps, etc... but it says he's a coach and he flies camera. If you know who it is, can you point him to this post? SKYDAVE1 if you're reading this, PM me please!! God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  24. Congrats to Mr. Broken. Do you have info on canopy, wingloading, winds, weights, etc...? God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  25. Hey all. I have a Stroboframe 300-QRC and a camera that they do not make a specific anti-twist plate for. The camera I have (Pentax *istDL) requires me to loosen the quick release plate to change batteries, and I'm begining to have problems with alignment. I traced an outline of the plate on the bottom of the camera to help, but it's not foolproof. Has anyone had a similar problem? How did you fix it? Thanks in advance!
