Seven shot dead at US army base in Texas
Airgump replied to masterblaster72's topic in Speakers Corner
my thoughts and prayers are with our brother and sisters from skydive temple. they're spending their fair share of time overseas getting shot at and shouldn't have to worry it in garrison. -
White House Move to Collect 'Fishy' Info May Be Illegal, Critics Say
Airgump replied to rushmc's topic in Speakers Corner
I took your awesome advice and sent them this wonderful recipe for poached carp .............................................................................. Poached Carp Recipe Ingredients • 2 lbs/1 kg carp • 1 onion • 1 carrot • 1 parsley root • 2-3 pepper berries • 1 bay leaf • 2 tablespoons lemon juice • 2 tablespoons oil • 2-3 potatoes • salt Clean, wash, salt the carp and let it sit for 10-15 minutes. In the meantime, set the vegetables to boil with 1 qt. of water, some salt, pepper and bay leaf. Let boil until the vegetables are tender. Then remove from heat, add the quartered potatoes and let boil for a few minutes. Then add the pieces of carp. Let everything simmer, covered, until the carp and potatoes are done. After the carp has cooled off, remove from the pot and place in the middle of a platter, surrounded by vegetables and potatoes. Mix the oil with the lemon juice and 2-3 tablespoons of the poaching liquid and pour over the fish and vegetables. Then spread some chopped parsley on the top. Which weather website for Skydiving?
Airgump replied to aceofd1amonds's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
if you're up in orange, mass and going to jumptown to make some loads, gary pond is the genius on weather and finding holes to dump multi-color otter poop. (he references wunderground and then makes it happen. steve boyd down in spaceland can also hold his own. -
The Blue Sky Ranch in Gardiner, NY stands right up there side by side with Z-Hills for overall vibe. Z-Hills is awesome for night jumps and you can see the shuttle launch in the distance when NASA has either night or day shots. Hands down for the beauty of nature, you have to jump the Ranch when the leaves change. The ride to altitude is really awesome and the land below looks like it's on fire. The lakes you pass over on the ride to altitude at Jumptown in Orange Mass is very beautiful too. I miss that DZ a lot these days.

USPA Membership Dues& Rating Fees going up?
Airgump replied to chriswelker's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
i agree with kim, let the dodo bird, i mean the ragachutist go the way of the saber toothed kitty cat. uspa is sending out mass emails with their little tidbits of stuff from jim crouch, so why not make ragachutist another link of this revamped high speed high tech new web site that we're already paying for. i know Polly's bird cage and the out house will never be the same, but hell, enough already! -

i remember 4th of july 2004 at the Ranch, everyone was partying hard at the bonfire and maggot drives up in his pickup truck, jumps out, and starts digging through the tool box in the back of his truck. since it was dark, and he could see inside his tool box, his solution was so maggotesk........he lit up a road flare and sure enough found his fireworks....and so did the flare!! it was several minutes before it was safe to approach his truck, and the crowd went wild!!! brah, going to miss ya and the good times that seem to always be surrounding you. blues, gump

Dropzone That Accept Skydivers Under 16
Airgump replied to showithers's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
All of the DZs in Oklahoma, to my knowledge, will take jumpers at 16 with parents consent form signed. We have one that just made her first jump on Sunday and another one who is set to get off the static line and make his first freefall next weekend. Blue Ones, Gump -
Got a question for you all..... the field I've been jumping out of lately is around 1,000 ish feet above sea level, the average temp has been running around 100 to 104 degrees F, what kind of performance can a jumper expect from the A/C? I'm starting to get a weird feeling about the plane(s) I've been riding in. What brings on this "bad" feeling is that my instructor that put me out of my first plane (SL) just can home from Iraq, and on his 2nd or 3rd load (my first for the day) was down right nervous until at least 3k! Later, I was coaching a student and only the two of us "big boys" (both around 240 out the door) was on the load to 7K and it was redlined gauges all the way and the plane sounded like it was over speeding here and there and the climb rate got down to 70 odd feet per minute at some points. I admit, I've been a spoiled twotter baby (at least 500 jumps and a good number of the out of Freefall Express A/C) and don't know beans about the little ones. Could some of you all out there enlighten me about jumping these little beasties in the summer temps? Blue Ones, Gump

Where is a good place to go skydiving on March 8?
Airgump replied to lizzya's topic in Events & Places to Jump
come to the sun..............Skydive Arizona! PM me and i can hook ya up with someone to pick you up at the airport in Phoenix and take ya back to catch your flight! -
I guess you didn't understand the poster, they are looking for a close DZ that DOES NOT TAKE SKYRIDE. The manager there has run that DZ into the ground and the owners (Lee and Carol) have lost touch with their customer base. Last trip I make through that place sucked big time and ended up going down to Spaceland in Houston to finish my vacation at a DZ that appreciates their customers. Dr. Lee being on the USPA board makes the whole SKYRIDE thing even more insane.

will a canon ball position get you out of a flat spin
Airgump replied to minmal's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
You will most likely stop the spin and increase fall rate and swap the spin for a tumble. My AFF instructor out in Perris used the "canon ball exit" as an easy unstable exit from the AC. Try using a slight delta (track) to stop your spin. This way your fall rates does not drastically increase. Had the spin problem when my instructor had me make my first floating exit. Went in to a vicious flat spin straight away from the AC. At the cost of failing a lesson, another instructor taught me how to throw a little delta influence in there for just a second or two. Remember arch, and to check your arms and do some toe taps to trim up your body, something had to make you spin in the first place. blue ones, gump -
I first ran in to Scott out in Eloy a few years ago. When my work took me to Houston, I started going down to Spaceland to jump, and there was Scott hollering my name, walked up to shake my hand, and asking a million questions about how I’ve been doing. He indeed was the hardest working person out there and was always checking off the manifest list against jumpers and making sure they were manifested correctly. I have made a whole lot of hop-n-pops there when my allergies were at their worst. He was always making sure that I wasn’t being charged for going all the way up. When getting on the plane, he was always there by the ladder bumping knuckles with everyone getting on the plane, and then when the plane pulls away, he would race off to do something else the DZ required with a big smile on his face. Last time I saw him was weekend before last with the big way camp, and he asked me before I headed home if I’d load one of the planes for him because he couldn’t do both at the same time. I got everyone on the plane, he ran by me with a smile and trotted off to help Steve Boyd do some work on the Caravan. That was the last time I saw my friend, and will always remember him that way. Scott, thanks for taking the time out of your life to serve our country like you did for us with your service in the Navy, and thank you for making so many people feel welcome with you presence. I will not forget you my friend. BSBD, my brother! Gump

Which DZ`s in your state accept Skyride?
Airgump replied to Thanatos340's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
yes skydive dallas does take them, the "manager" there is very proud to take them. interesting because the owner Lee S. is on the USPA board. the DZ there in dallas has been going down hill for the last few years and is only fitting that they resort to doing business with that lot. forrest, forrest gump -
there are two ways that i have had sucess with doing that. Nero software that came with the external memorex dvd writer i bought will do it, and if you want to spend the money you can buy adobe premier elements and it will fill the bill nicely as well. you could also pick up a device that pinacle makes (bestbuy usually carries them) and then capture the necessary clips playing your dvd and attaching the audio video cables to the capture device that came with the software. i used to do it that way when i first started playing with video. the quality can be a little sketchy time to time but it works.

Top 14 things NOT to say to cop that pulls you over
Airgump replied to GravityJunky's topic in The Bonfire
was working in knoxville, tn a few years ago when the local PD was using their "retired" cop cars for decoys on certain stretches of the interstate. it didn't take the locals long to pick up on this tactic and in the spirit of helping unknowingly fellow drivers to pick out these decoys....they would affix a doughnut box to the hood of the cars. kinda funny driving down the road going from "oh shit! i'm going to get a ticket" to laughing like a madman at the "marked" car. -
Top 14 things NOT to say to cop that pulls you over
Airgump replied to GravityJunky's topic in The Bonfire
