  1. Could somebody PM me what E this is? I recognize it but I can't put my finger on it for some reason. I really don't know what I'm talking about.
  2. Well, there's no such thing as "Mac" RAM instead of normal RAM... it's all the same kind. I've purchased from Kingston and Crucial before, both had good prices and the RAM worked fine so hey. Heh, that's funny that they edited it. I caught it pre-editing Yep, the presentation is done using Apple's Keynote application. As for the effect that they use to have Steve in one corner and the presentation fullscreen... I expect that's an effect put together buy the editors for the sake of the webcast... Apple's been doing that effect for years [both on live transmissions and recordings]. I know that Leopard's iChat will have a similar feature in the iChat theater, but I'm not currently aware of how Apple does it. I doubt it's that hard. I really don't know what I'm talking about.
  3. That remains a huge problem with the smaller stores. Apple is actually training Best Buy employees [unless the project has been scrapped] to try and give customers a real idea of what's going on. I've been told in CompUSA - among many others - that "Macs don't use RAM," "Apple went out of business years ago," "iPod owns Apple now," etc... I really don't know what I'm talking about.
  4. Good times, it's a killer machine. Just be sure to never buy RAM from Apple... they overcharge. I expect you could knock several grand off that price with 3rd party RAM. Joe Jennings is also a Mac user now and he seems to be loving it [sorry about not getting you the discount, Joe!]. The Mac photo/video/film thing goes well beyond just skydivers. The Mac is the standard in those industries [for those who disagree: no need to start an argument, we can just agree to disagree]. The Apple thing goes well beyond throwing the machines into random stores. The Apple Store is a perfect example of this. It's not just a Mac, it's getting the whole "Apple Experience" from start to finish [from sales to service and all that stuff]. That said, you can find Macs in any reputable computer store and [soon enough] in Best Buy and the like. The iPod Halo Effect ["My iPod works, I bet the computers work too!"] is helping this tremendously. Mac sales are higher than ever and are growing dramatically faster than any other computer manufacturer. In many respects, it's been that way for over a decade. The last 5 years or so have continued the trend to the point that [with Boot Camp for die-hard Windoze guys] it's truly seamless. If you want to see a funny commentary on that, go here and watch the WWDC keynote. Watch it all if you have time [it's cool from a dorky perspective... you also get to see what's coming in Leopard and you get to bask in Steve Jobs' public speaking prowess]. As for the commentary I referred to, go to 00:24:17 and watch until about 00:28:15. I really don't know what I'm talking about.
  5. See? Those crazy Mac guys aren't crazy! I really don't know what I'm talking about.
  6. Yep, you can run an external display along with the internal display simultaneously. As for having two external displays and keeping the lid shut on the MacBook... I don't know if this is possible [I doubt it, just by a desktop at that point]. I really don't know what I'm talking about.
  7. I'm 1920x1200 and I can see everything... once it takes over my screen... which I hate enough to close the window immediately. I really don't know what I'm talking about.
  8. Touché. Replace "elliptical" with "unsuitable for my skill and experience levels". I really don't know what I'm talking about.
  9. That makes three of us. I really don't know what I'm talking about.
  10. Trust me, that's why I was clear that it's for curiosity's sake. I want nothing to do with elliptical canopies for a long time, if ever. I just didn't want to be that low-timer giving somebody else shit for jumping a canopy that they shouldn't be. I really don't know what I'm talking about.
  11. Which wide-angle lens are you using? Does it resolve to HD or is it just a standard SD lens? I really don't know what I'm talking about.

    MAUI locals?

I stared out the window on the entire drive up the volcano just wishing I had a rig to ground-launch. A nine-cell skydiving canopy could make it for miles in some places. The winds were nothing short of sketchy two days ago... good luck. I really don't know what I'm talking about.
  13. When, other than just before chopping, would you do that? I, personally, wouldn't. That's not to say that I haven't seen it happen [though it's generally when somebody doesn't stow their brakes in the landing area]. The time when I actually saw a brake line coil itself up was when somebody went to un-twist their lines at somebody else's recommendation. They untwisted the line but couldn't figure out why the line kept appearing to twist up even with the brakes stowed. As soon as they unstowed their brakes and let it go, the toggle flipped around as the line twisted itself up again. Needless to say, they had new brake lines by the end of the day. I really don't know what I'm talking about.
  14. Aye, poor phrasing. By "released" I meant "released from your hand" or just left to flap in the breeze. I really don't know what I'm talking about.
  15. Good on them, glad to hear it. How's the Vision fly at 1.3? Aerodyne's website seems to vaguely recommend a 1.6 loading [per the 'canopy selector' chart]. Just curious for curiosity's sake, I've yet to read much about it. I really don't know what I'm talking about.
  16. Do your brake lines twist up when the canopy is laying on the ground? If twists are left in brake lines for too long, they can set into that twisted position permanently. Untwisting them is merely twisting them away from where they want to be... so they coil back up as soon as they're released. I could've completely misunderstood what was causing your brake twists, so this could be irrelevant. I really don't know what I'm talking about.
  17. HC3 vs. HV10. No mention of a lanc port, but that's not exactly a notable feature for the Times. I really don't know what I'm talking about.

There's a lot of construction happening near where I am on Maui right now, but I haven't been close enough to see how tall the numerous cranes are. I really don't know what I'm talking about.
  19. By "around your neck" do you mean that your head was held to your chest by the risers? I don't suppose you'd be typing this if they were literally around your neck. Do you watch your canopy inflate during deployment? Or do you just keep looking at the horizon until it's over? If the risers were holding your head to your chest [and you generally watch deployment], the line-twists happened before the canopy began to inflate [I.E. before the main was extracted from the bag]. Linetwists that early could come from any number of things. It could've been a packed twist, it could've been bag instability [from double-wrapping your locking stows? I dunno, I'm not sold yet.] or it could've been your instability on deployment [how unstable are we talking here?]. I'm sure there are other reasons that I haven't thought of - I don't know shit. How have your other openings been? I really don't know what I'm talking about.
  20. I expect that the TV runs at 1920x1080 - HD 1080p resolution. The 30" Cinema Display's resolution, of course, is significantly higher. I really don't know what I'm talking about.
  21. Those reviews are all of the *old* 30" display. The new one has a 400cd/m2 brightness up from 270cd/m2 and a 700:1 contrast ratio, up from 400:1. They also had a significant price decrease. Specs-wise, they are superior to the Dells. I'm not certain about pricing. I really don't know what I'm talking about.
  22. Yeah, it happened in France a while ago. There were a few big debates about it when somebody posted the video a few months ago. I really don't know what I'm talking about.
  23. I would've rather seen the Discovery Jump photo from page 13 on the cover. I really don't know what I'm talking about.
  24. Click the "Dropzones" tab at the top of this page or go to www.skydive.com [still under construction]. I really don't know what I'm talking about.
  25. Fantastic article, Joe. I'm really looking forward to more in the future! ~Brook I really don't know what I'm talking about.
