  1. I've now got all the info I was looking for. Thanks a lot, much appreciated, John
  2. Thanks Rob Do you happen to know if Accuracy canopies use slats and flaps as do the latest iteration of Base canopies?
  3. I some times have a need to vertically sink a large 7 cell into some tight areas at night. I'm in the market for a new canopy but want to make a better informed decision especially as I've just rcently had a hip replacement. My body weight is 175ibs and my current canopy is 280 sq ft. What ratio of suspended weight to canopy square footage do accuracy jumpers reccommend? thanks in advance, John (Kenya)
  4. To those that responded to my questions, many thanks John (Kenya)
  5. I apologise in advance if I haven't searched properly but would someone please advise/confirm: 1 - The CX12 doesn't have a LANC port so can a Cam Eye or HypEye somehow be used with it? 2 - What is the conclusion regarding "shake". Has it been concluded that this camcorder is or is not suitable for freefall videography? Thanks in advance, John Scher (Kenya)

    What to do?

As I am a father I will gratefully accept your fathers day gesture. My base buddy has left East Africa and there are no other Basers in this part of the world that I know of. I could either stop jumping or go solo. I have now done a few solos both with & without ground crew and find them extremely fulfilling as well as challenging. There is no longer the opportunity for any "look at me Bravado" and nor is there any moral support. Solos have helped me know me better. I also find solos quite demmading in that I now have to do some considerable trekking to get back to my car etc. In terms of numbers I am new to the sport and cannot provide guidance or advice but I have found solos to be very worthwhile

    A and camera

Perhaps you could have better worded it thus: I'm sorry that you are not English and that you tend to think in non English terms however...
  8. When I go I would like my organs to benefit any worthy living sole(s). If my name and perticulars could also be of some benefit in one form or another I would not hesitate to offer them in advance. The remnants of my family fully understand this as do my close friends John
  9. Shame but decision respected John
  10. This thread really made me laugh and I'm not being sarcastic. Some guy proudly presents his new hand made rig and in return gets comments and recomendations on his carpet. Excellent! John
  11. We are out on a limb here in Kenya and to the best of my knowledge there is at present all of one base jumper(s) in the whole of East and Central Africa: me! Any & all Knowlege Bases, Wikki's, Forums, "Lists" and helpful people ie TA & Sean (when he was still with us) are invaluable to me. I constantly study all of the above, formulate my own opinions and ideas and modify my Base behaviour accordingly. I respect the various points of view expressed in this thread and vote in favour of the List. John
  12. Rhonda, What is the actual date as we here in Kenya would like to send him a card rgds John
  13. I do, I have a 6 year old boy and it's a dilemma for me. Do I continue risking my life for my own gratification or do I shape up and become a more responsible parent? I didn't know him and I say this with the greatest respect but I sometimes think of Lukas and the beautiful kids he left behind. As I said it's a dilemma, at least for me. John

    uk basers

people in the UK have bad teeth and there food is terrible and they talk funny. --------------------------------------------------------------------- As much as I endeavour to get on with other nationalities at the end of the day I have to accept that they are simply not British. Regards John
  15. ...and a pretty unique story (which is finally funny now) Could we hear it? rgds John
  16. I cannot speak highly enough of Sean who I met in the UK. He offered me friendship and went out of his way to help. We spoke every other day as Sean and George were planning to come here in October to jump the bigger cliffs. Sean - I cannot believe you are no longer amongst us. You are free now; safe journey. John
  17. iamthewalrus, We initially found that Velocity armour rides up the torso when moving around. This was partly due to the shape of the chest armour and partly due to the elasticated fabric upon which the armour is mounted. To get round this we removed all of the armour and re-stiched it onto a looser fitting cotton smock. Now it does not ride up and does not restrict arm movement at all. Regards John
  18. mtnlion667, Is this meant to be humorous? Witty perhaps? I cringe each time I think of an outsider looking in and seeing this sickening, pathetic drivel. Do you not have something intelligent to say? You might be a great guy face to face but this is shameful. Question - how old are you? This is not meant to be a snipe, I really do wonder how old you are and the level of maturity that I should expect from you. John
  19. Gus, Kindly advise - how did you subscribe to a PF newsletter? I have searched the PF site and cannot find out how to do this. Regards, John Scher
  20. Magot, You are just tooo funny. Amazing wit, side splitting humor. Where do you get it all from? New Subject Does any one know the name of the ingredient for putting dogs down? Sleep tight John
  21. No doubt!!! I'm so glad riggerlee agrees w/us. I was beginning to think maggot and I were the only people left that tested BASE gear on a BASE jump. This isn't skydiving folks!!! That's why it's so fun! I just got myself a new canopy to use for a bit, so I grabbed a 6pack and swapped the canopy onto my risers in the dark and the rain, while chasing my dog down from attacking muskrats at the pond. got up pre dawn and did a hop&pop from 4...................... hundred. I guess I am a bit of bitch as I did pull high to check my brake settings and try some riser turns. nothing like a solo jump w/new gear on your back to get the juices flowing. ---------------------------------------------------------- ...Yawn!
  22. Thanks to everyone that replied including Magot. John Scher
  23. Base Rigger, Thanks for your reply. No it doesn't have to be TSO'd and I will be using it here in Kenya. There are no riggers here that would be able to build me such a system. I will definitely look into the RWS option. John Scher
  24. All, I want to do a bunch of Base oriented skydives on my BJ 280 in a Perigee II (velcro) rig. The purpose of the exercise is to get terminal experience on my Black Jack, experiment with the Deep Brake settings, do some more accuracy, get used to my PF suit before taking it off an object and make a start on my WS project. Rather than buying a large container & reserve and then dismantling and reassembling everything each time I want to use it for sky diving I am thinking about attaching a chest mount reserve to my Perigee II. I have discussed this with Marty and he approves the rig for terminal and suggested that I might find a chest mount reserve in the German market place. I have used chest mount reserves quite a few times, many years ago when I first started jumping so I am somewhat familiar with their operation and usage. I also appreciate that the chest mount reserve will inhibit my tracking and WS. Q1 – Have you or do you know any one that has previously used a chest mount reserve attached to a Base rig in the skydiving environment? Q2 – Do you think that such a practise is sensible? Q3 – Do you know where I might purchase a chest mount reserve? Thanking you in advance John Scher
