  1. I have a list of people wanting to share a room that I can match you up with. Gary www.kltowerjump.com
  2. The event is absolutely confirmed. It has been held every year since 2001, except in 2003. More information about the events that have taken place at KL Tower can be found at http://www.kltowerjump.com/about.html Petronas Twin Towers has never been part of the Menara KL event. There was another event organised by SkyVenture Productions www.xtremeskydive.com.my that included jumping off Petronas Twin Towers and KL Tower. This event does not run anymore as Petronas Twin Towers are no longer interested in having any BASE jumping take place off their buildings. The event is freely open to spectators. There is usually a small crowd watching from the bottom and the observation level. It can also be observed from many points throughout the city. A preview video can currently seen on the Menara KL homepage.
  3. www.orbitz.com is a good place to start when searching for cheap flights.
  4. Nic, Menara KL will be organising accommodation for all participants but of course you are welcome to find your own if you like. Our preferred hotel in Kuala Lumpur is Pacific Regency Hotel. At present they cannot guarantee to fulfil our requirements so other options are being looked into. All participants will be informed of the hotel that we will be using once it is finalised. 5. It is always good the have a second rig in case you have a problem with one of them. Each extra rig you bring may get you one extra jump a day. At past events it has been easy to do over 10 jumps a day with just one rig. I think 2 rigs is ideal. 3 rigs is very nice for doing 3 jumps in quick succession but then there is a lengthy packing session to follow. 3 rigs can also be hassle to carry around and can leave you with a large excess luggage bill. Gary
  6. All applicants have been notified if they have been successful or not. This year we have had a large interest in the event and have been able to fill the 100 slots available for KL Tower. If you applied for the event and have not received a response then please contact me. I look forward to seeing everyone in Malaysia. Regards Gary www.kltowerjump.com
  7. For those that prefer to use credit card in Malaysia, it is wise to have a backup. Malaysia is one of the hotspots in the world for credit card fraud. Some foreign banks have a policy to automatically cancel a credit card once it is used in Malaysia as a precaution to protect against possible fraud in the future. Card data is often copied there and used in the future. I used to prefer using my credit card there but after having it cancelled on 3 separated occasions I now predominately use cash. My cards have usually been cancelled a few weeks after returning home due to using it in Malaysia. My last visit there I only used credit card to pay hotel bills which fortunately did not result in it getting cancelled. I would be interested to hear how many others have had credit cards cancelled from using them in Malaysia. I find the exchange rates I get in Malaysia are now often better or similar to what I get from using credit card. Several years ago credit card used to get the best rates but now many credit card issuers choose to make more profit from foreign exchange and add extra fees. Not sure if this is the same for card issuers in other countries but is common here in Australia. The bottom floor of the mall at Petronas has 2 places to do foreign exchange which give good rates. There are many other places in KL that may do a marginally better rate. Exchanging money at the airport or hotels is more expensive. Exchanging money at home before you go is usually the most expensive. Gary www.kltowerjump.com
  8. I have sent application information to all that have previously requested them. Those that have not received them should contact me. Maybe check your junk email first. Gary

    KL question

There will be an event at KL Tower in August. It will be similar to last year and will also include multiple buildings in Peninsular Malaysia and East Malaysia (Borneo). We hope to release full event details and application information around the beginning of March. For the KL Tower event we prefer applicants to have at least 100 base jumps and 2 years of base jumping experience. For the tour of all buildings we like applicants to have quite a bit more experience than that. We are looking for jumpers with right balance of experience, skill, attitude and respect for the sport. KL stories?

Menara KL International BASE Jump Merdeca Circuit 2006 has been quite a good event. For the full tour we had 14 jumpers who completed 499 jumps for the first 3 buildings. For the main event at KL Tower there were about 70 jumpers and we completed over 1300 jumps in 3 days of jumping there. Over 1800 jumps were made during the whole event. There were 3 jumpers who made over 100 jumps each. One did 146 jumps during the event. We had two landing injuries that required surgery. There was one building strike in Penang with no injury and 3 tower strikes at KL Tower with one resulting in minor injuries. The event has been quite successful and a similar Malaysian BASE circuit has already been announced in August next year. Gary
  12. We are now taking applications for this event. Application details have been sent to all that have registered their interest. Anyone else interested can email me for more details and application information. Gary Cunningham
  13. I have had numerous enquiries about this years KL Tower event from base jumpers wanting to plan their year. Although we are not ready to make a full announcement yet I can say that Menara KL is planning their next event in August this year. This time I will not be greedy and keep the tower all to myself for 24 hours, I am happy to be able to invite many friends. The current plan is for 3 full days of jumping at KL Tower from 25th to 27th August with possibly up to 100 participants. In addition to this Menara KL is planing a BASE tour with 3 other buildings in different parts of Malaysia for up to 30 very experienced BASE jumpers. This tour will include a building in Kota Kinabalu, Alor Setar and Penang. It will conclude with the main event at KL Tower. The full tour will start about 10th August. I have test jumped all these buildings and they are all very nice jumps. There are still a few issues to sort out with this event but we hope to be able to release more information and start taking applications early March. Anyone who would like to be sent full details and application information when it becomes available can email me. Gary Cunningham
  14. After the rain finally stopped I did another 13 jumps for a total of 133 base jumps in 24 hours. The final jump was a nice 10 way with my packers. There was a huge crowd at the exit point giving us the countdown to 2006. We launched off a second before midnight. Visuals in freefall and under canopy where excellent with fireworks going off all around the city to celebrate the New Year. Thanks to everyone involved that helped me out with this event. I look forward to jumping with everyone around the world in 2006. Gary
  15. I hammered out 60 jumps from midnight to 6am. Then we just took it easy relaxed for the rest of the day. I completed 120 jumps by 5:30pm. It is raining now but when it stops my packers and I will do a few more jumps tonight finishing with a nice NYE jump at the stroke of midnight as the clock ticks over to 2006. It has been a nice way to spend the last day of the year but it has also been hard work. Happy New Year to all Gary
