  2. In the first debate Obama won by not losing? In this debate McCain lost by not winning? Who won? The television sponsors. SpinSpinSpin OBTW buying mortgages is not new. McCain was talking about that in April. --------------------------------------------- Every day is a bonus - every night is an adventure.

  4. It's not like Ayers has changed his stripes. "For instance, at a November 2006 education forum in Caracas, Venezuela, with President Hugo Chávez at his side, Ayers proclaimed his support for “the profound educational reforms under way here in Venezuela under the leadership of President Chávez. We share the belief that education is the motor-force of revolution. . . . I look forward to seeing how you continue to overcome the failings of capitalist education as you seek to create something truly new and deeply humane.” Ayers concluded his speech by declaring that “Venezuela is poised to offer the world a new model of education—a humanizing and revolutionary model whose twin missions are enlightenment and liberation,”" Full Article And this is what Barack Obama was helping Ayers fund. 5. You know, I was on the fence during the primaries. This has been a real "none of the above" year for me. But we're down to two and even if it's the lesser of two evils some logic is better than no logic. This time around I still choose to vote for one candidate rather than against the other but ideological belief has very little to do with it. I've lived under socialist democracies, benevolent dictatorships, and communist capitalism. I've seen the democracies swing to the left and back to the right. What seems to determine which is the calendar. Last time I lived in England the conservatives held the government and the voters couldn't wait to get rid of them and get labor back in office. This time it's just the opposite. So it is in the USA. I'm pretty sure that if we have a bomb proof senate and house with a Dem in the White House it won't last, just as the Republicans didn't. Choosing CHANGE as a slogan - what a no brainer. Trouble is people don't want change. When they say they do they mean they want you to change. Oh Well, whatever works for you. My main concern this year is none of that. I live in the world as a whole and deal with businesses around the globe. It is getting to be a very dangerous place. We are on the edge of the abyss, but not Islamic Radicalism - that's just a catalizing agent. We are nearing a shift in global driving economic basis. The age of energy is beginning to emerge. Energy is the currency of this change. One candidate is not significantly different than the other here. The issue is foreign policy. The danger is unpredictability. People love or hate Bush but one thing is certain, he is predictable. McCain, for all the maverick talk is predictable. Obama is a wild card, unknown. The rest of the world likes what he says but doesn't trust him because he is not predictable. The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan strategically place American focus in that region, but they aren't the primary focus. Wavering economies and security of energy resource supplies have a tendancy to grate on the national nerves. Add to that food production exacerbated by ethanol (energy) production and weather and you have a very interesting situation. Who you gonna trust? It's all a matter of degrees and I like to play the percentages. If I wasn't basically lazy I'd say go for it, but I'm getting old and tired and it will be a lot easier if we just have a hiccup instead of an embolism. So gang, what's your story? --------------------------------------------- Every day is a bonus - every night is an adventure.

  7. Hey why so defensive? I'm happy to see the diversity in the two tickets. Let's see, we have A 72 year Viet Nam era veteran An African American A woman and a mentally challenged candidate. Covers a lot of bases. Hooray for America. That scores really high on the diversity scale. --------------------------------------------- Every day is a bonus - every night is an adventure.

  9. What I not "cool with" is Barack Obama as President, having the nuclear codes and facing down Putin, and China, and North Korea and Iran, and keeping Pakistan & India, and Israel and the Arabs states, from blowing each other up. What I'm not "cool with" is electing Barack Obama to punish Bush or the Congress or people that don't recycle. What I'm not "cool with" is handing one party a blank check when the guy writing the check is somewhere to the left of George McGovern and believes that, like Kennedy, some really smart guys in a cabinet room in the White House know more than people that have been putting their lives on the line since he stopped eating food out of jars. What I'm not "cool with" is a coalition of a President from the Chicago machine, a speaker that manipulated a key vote to cause it to fail and with it lost $1T in one day, and a Majority leader that devastated the insurance industry by speaking without thinking. Sorry folks, I'm just not cool with Barack Obama. I won't change anyone's mind and I won't suffer too much if Barack Obama gets elected. I just get upset cause I've seen this happen before and I know how much longer it will take for things to improve and how much longer it will take with a Democrat controlled Congress and White House. 12. On Thursday night Senator Biden said, “With regard to the role of vice president, I had a long talk, as I'm sure the governor did with her principal, in my case with Barack. Let me tell you what Barack asked me to do. I have a history of getting things done in the United States Senate. John McCain would acknowledge that. My record shows that on controversial issues. I would be the point person for the legislative initiatives in the United States Congress for our administration. I would also, when asked if I wanted a portfolio, my response was, no. But Barack Obama indicated to me he wanted me with him to help him govern. So every major decision he'll be making, I'll be sitting in the room to give my best advice. He's president, not me, I'll give my best advice.” Biden’s missteps were fairly well detailed in the New York Post this weekend. Biden, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, was picked because he was thought to bring decades of experience that could help counter GOP attacks on Obama's lack of experience in foreign policy. These missteps raise serious questions about the Obama ticket and its ability to carry out a cohesive and productive foreign policy. We must also wonder how this pick speaks to Obama’s ability to choose the right team for fiscal policy. Opponents will undoubtedly point to mistakes in facts which were made by Governor Palin. Of course there were mistakes on her part, but look beyond both. In Biden you have, as he has indicated, a presidential mentor with 36 years of legislative experience who still cannot get the facts straight in his area of expertise. In Palin you have a Governor that recognizes her status as the second on the ticket who is a quick study, getting more of the facts right in a few weeks than her opponent has in his long career. --------------------------------------------- Every day is a bonus - every night is an adventure.

  14. Biden - how easily he distorts, lies, and fabricates, how easily he is believed. That can't be good for America. http://www.nypost.com/seven/10042008/postopinion/editorials/the_lies_biden_told_132104.htm http://www.commentarymagazine.com/blogs/index.php/totten/35261 http://townhall.com/columnists/AmandaCarpenter/2008/10/03/biden_tells_14_lies_during_vp_debate http://michaelmedved.townhall.com/blog/g/c332e71c-4efc-4a2a-a5b1-b295cb20c7ea --------------------------------------------- Every day is a bonus - every night is an adventure.
  15. I think alot of people saw it that way, but then they weren't noticing that Biden got alot of that wrong (fact-check). He lost the fact-check-o-meter, though Palin made some mistakes as well. Two things that come to me on this topic. 5+ term senator convincingly mis-stating the facts is very "Inside the Beltway". And, Rookie Governor that is getting better very fast (like Obama did when he started running 19 months ago). --------------------------------------------- Every day is a bonus - every night is an adventure.

  18. The point I was going for with the link was the wide margin that Carter had in the polls vs the low margin of win. The other consideration than cell phones is how the polls are conducted. Case in point is that if a polster calls and the person answering does not want to do a poll they skip them. It may be possible that large demographics are not given to taking polls. --------------------------------------------- Every day is a bonus - every night is an adventure.

    High Noon

Quote: Well, you can - and The Duke would probably be a lot more fun than some politician. Better to ask yourself, though, what Patrick Henry, Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson or Abraham Lincoln would have done. _______________________________________________ OK if you want to get serious . . . I doubt that any of them would have the ability to deal with the specific realities of the situation today. What they would bring are the things I think are sorely lacking, loyalty, honor, itegrity. They were after all just men doing their best. I'm sure you read my posts summarizing the bill as I read through it yesterday. There are glass half full/half empty parts of that legislation. The situation and solutions are complex in the extreme. No matter what we do, events will take their course. Thoughtful people will try to weave solutions that will inspire additional thought from leaders. I have great faith in the American people and the country's ability, through it's freedom to think on its own, to deal with crisis. When we can see a foe and unite against it we will be in a better position to deal with it. I'm still looking for someone who can lead. Haven't seen them yet. --------------------------------------------- Every day is a bonus - every night is an adventure.

    High Noon

Yesterday my wife forced me to give her the remote control and informed me I'd been watching too much cable news. To lower my blood pressure she switched to an old Gregory Peck movie, "The Gunfighter". You remember that one? In this classic noir-influenced Western, Gregory Peck stars as an aging gunslinger, sick of killing but haunted by punks wanting to make a name for themselves by slaying a legend. My mind turned immediately back to the news du jour. Wasn't it really the same thing? Gunslingers abounded on the news networks and blogs. Each was trying to prove that they were the fastest, always trying to best their opponents. Of course Couric didn't go after Biden's "Roosevelt on TV" comment. Maybe she didn't know he was wrong but more likely she just wasn't interested in gunning down the village idiot. No if you're going to play High Noon in the big leagues you gotta go for the shootists. Plug Pelosi on her partisanship and for extra good measure put one right between her PAC paid Hubby's eyes. Better yet knock off the competition by setting a trap for Iffel and making sure she is out of bullets before you spring it. Yep, I love a good gunfight, but for my money I would prefer one of the gangster version where you stand Franks, Dodd, and Schumer up against the wall of a garage and tommy gun them. --------------------------------------------- Every day is a bonus - every night is an adventure.
