  1. I think lots of it has to do with age and maturity. When I was younger, I never even contemplated getting married, having kids, etc. It was just a non-factor. I wanted to drink, do every drug, gamble, fight and go to strip clubs. I wanted to jump in the sack with every girl I found attractive. So why worry about committed relationships? Now it doesn't seem like such a bad idea...but it's hard to de-program those 12 years of mayhem. Get in - Get off - Get away....repeat as neccessary
  2. Not such a bad idea...lets someone unfamiliar with your rig give you a quick and easy pin check... Get in - Get off - Get away....repeat as neccessary
  3. Like I said, this was just a conversation I witnessed between an instructor and an A licensed jumper...but he specifically kept repeating that "A" jumpers should be "in the saddle" by 3K. And I think he said B as well. Get in - Get off - Get away....repeat as neccessary
  4. Two weeks ago I overheard an instructor @ Perris giving someone an ass chewing for doing a somersault out of a 3000' H&P. Then, when he found out the guy only had an A license (albeit with 150 jumps), he gave him more shit for even doing a 3000' H&P in the 1st place. A's and B's are supposed to be in the saddle by 3K. Like I said, this is just what I observed. Get in - Get off - Get away....repeat as neccessary
  5. Pssst.... Bottom line, I've got news for you... An altimeter breaking, not working, never working, "Disintegrating upon entry into the windstream" -WHATEVER IS NOT A FRIGGIN EMERGENCY SITUATION! DOH! Even for a "30-jump wonder". No one ever said (legitimately) that you have to hold out until the ground looks really, REALLY "BIG"! If, ...and yes even by just 30 lousy jumps, you can't tell the difference between dumping mega-high (like 8, 9, or 10-grand) versus being REASONABLY safer between that and impact, then you probably should rethink about even jumping out of that plane in the 1st place AT ALL. C'mon dude... be real here. Blues, -Grant If he is new - and doesn't have your 10,000 jump God-like awareness of the ground - a broken altimeter IS an emergency situation. Especially if he needs tp perform EP's. Get in - Get off - Get away....repeat as neccessary
  6. I also add my protrack info...deployment altitude, avg spd and max spd. And, being a newbie myself, I also try to describe my landings... ie soft, hard, sliding on my butt etc. I am new to skydiving, but I have hundreds of scuba dives...only about 1/3rd logged. Now at 30 years old, I wish I had them all. When i am 80, i'll probably be really pissed at myself. Get in - Get off - Get away....repeat as neccessary
  7. I can't believe the number of A license holders that don't know A. The definition of wing loading B. How to calculate it. C. What their personal wing loading is. I mean, it's figured out for you in your profile. I downsized from a 210 to a 190 and beat the hell out of myself. Nothing like a smaller canopy to teach you the importance of following through on your flare...and flying the canopy the entire way till your completely stopped. 8. I'm just getting to the point of having a decent perception of the ground. I can generally tell right about when my audible is going to tell me to break and then again at pull. It's almost two things, an internal clock as well as ground perception. Get in - Get off - Get away....repeat as neccessary
  9. 15 minutes in the tunnel will cost you 250 bucks with a coach. While not a real skydive, you'll get the equivelant of about 15 skydives worth of practicing your arch...you'll learn more in that 15 minutes of the tunnel than any 1 level of AFF...at least I did. And you can practice the pull position 50 times if need be. Sure, the tunnel isn't cheap, but neither is failing AFF levels. Get in - Get off - Get away....repeat as neccessary
  10. While I've heard of felching, cream pies and salad tossing, the whole "Felch Baby" is new to me... I can't wait to use it in proper context!!! Get in - Get off - Get away....repeat as neccessary
  11. The tunnel is also nice because it gives you a frame of reference that you do not have falling/flying through the sky. As a new jumper, you can't really tell if your slipping or sliding ten feet...where as it's easy to tell in the tunnel, because you smack the glass. It's spendy, but worth it, IMHO. More importantly, did you ask your instructor what indeed it was that made you "wobbly"? Get in - Get off - Get away....repeat as neccessary
  12. Well, looks like i need to hook up with the Load Organizers. I know a guy Tom that is an LO on Mondays...but I never knew what that meant. I guess I'm going to have to make it out on a Sunday sometime and check out the weekend crowd. I usually go Wed...cheaper tickets and easier to find the gear I want on the demo program. Thanks to all who offered to jump with me...if I'm out on a weekend, I'll send a message before and and try to hook up with you. Get in - Get off - Get away....repeat as neccessary
  13. [/br] Perris it is. LO...Load Organizer. Heard of them, but I honestly do not know who they are or what they do. I actually thought they figured out what order to load the plane...but that order always seems to get worked out behind the prop under the influence of turbine exhaust. Please tell me more Get in - Get off - Get away....repeat as neccessary
  14. Totally agree man. I feel WAY better at 1K when I remove my seatbelt and can disembark that Otter if need be!!! Get in - Get off - Get away....repeat as neccessary
  15. Merely looking for opinions. As you can see, I have 38 jumps...25 of them solo belly. Also have appx 1 hour of tunnel time. I'm always stable, can adjust my rate of fall/de-arch decently. Haven't had any teaching since aff and my A rw dives sans tunnel. I'd like to take a tunnel camp/freefly course...something like the freefly mega center or whatever. Clean up belly, learn back, then sit. Combine the tunnel with 4 or 5 loads a day. Is 38 jumps enough to think about this? I'm not really learning squat jumping by myself, don't know anyone else to jump with, and I'm not entirely thrilled with the idea of belly rw work. I'm planning on having a coach guide this progression, not just winging it on my own. Seems like it would be easier to meet other freflyers to jump with than rw peeps as well. Just wanted opinions from others. Maybe when you started working on these things. Maybe recommendations of freefly coaches or clinics at Perris. Get in - Get off - Get away....repeat as neccessary
  16. From my take, skydiving has less injuries than motocross, skateboarding, BMX etc. You can't find anyone who has ridden a dirt bike hard that hasn't broken bones (at least not that I know) From the looks of this board, lots of people have escaped skydiving unscathed. I cracked my cocyx on jump 27. Something tells me I will hurt myself again... Get in - Get off - Get away....repeat as neccessary
  17. I use a Protrack...and I think it sneaks you an extra couple of seconds while that canopy is deploying. It always says my deployment altitudes are lower than when I tossed my hackey. Get in - Get off - Get away....repeat as neccessary
  18. Had great landings in my AFF jumps. Had some serious crashes between 15 and 31...including a broken cocyx. Jumping tomorrow for the first time in a month because of my "broken ass" Get in - Get off - Get away....repeat as neccessary

  20. Ride a bike to build up those muscles and increase circulation. The biggest thing is do you feel ready? If a previous injury causes you any hesitation or fear, you could just hurt something else worse. Get in - Get off - Get away....repeat as neccessary
  21. I should have been more specific. In my search spectre vs Sabre2, I found this was a statement reiterated time and time again. My own instructor, Jim Wallace, has told me that a Spectre will have a steeper angle of descent...hence my confusion upon reading the PD website. I asked to learn...and if I get confused, I'll ask more. Get in - Get off - Get away....repeat as neccessary
  22. Gotta love it. Every person has posted that Spectres have a steeper glide...yet the PD website states But, after reading PD's PDF on the Spectre, I did learn that I am probably only flaring about 3/4's of the way...probably why I keep beating the snot out of myself during landings. 23. So, a 145 pound guy plus 75lbs of lead (or more) and say 10lb of (small) gear (probably an underestimate) equals 230 lbs under a 79 square foot canopy equals a wing loading of 2.91:1. He really doesn't want a premature! Or a reserve ride! Any idea what size reserve he has in that setup? Any idead if he can jettison the weight? Speed skydiving is pretty risky at the best of times; why multiply that with small canopies and extra weight? Not sure about the rules and records and so forth, but I have done several loads with Luigi (sp?). He does wear about 80 pounds of weight. And this weight is worn under a full wetsuit type Lycra skin...no dumping this weight. He has so much weight on it looks like he has ammunition bandoliers or some serious ballistic body armor as undergarments.. The first time I saw him geared up, I asked one of my instructors if he was jumping in Dianese Body Armour or something His canopy is small...if someone said sub 80, they weren't kidding. And his rig is small...meaning a small reserve. He is @ Perris during the mid week all the time, and very friendly. He actually gave me more advice on student status than any other non-instructor at the DZ. He was the first person to recommend me taking a canopy skills class as soon as I got my A. And he was the first non-instructor to congratulate me after I completed my A check dive. Get in - Get off - Get away....repeat as neccessary
  24. Maybe they are talking about it because they believe it is what YOU want to hear... If they don't want to jump 10 times a day...so what? Maybe 2 times a day is plenty for them. Maybe they look forward to the beer light/social hour more than the green light... Get in - Get off - Get away....repeat as neccessary
  25. Took a digger on my 250 dirt bike, dislocating my elbow and cracking the radial head in the process. The bone healed fast. The nerves, ligaments and tendons, as well as other soft tissue that gets screwed up from the inflamation healed much slower. I've hurt myself many other times on my dirt bike. It is my experience that a decent joint injury will take 1 year to be normal...at the minimum. Go to a physical therapist. They will give you ROM as well as strength building exercises. They can also give you ultrasound, as can a lot of chiropractors. Ultrasound has been proven time and time again to heal joint injuries faster. Just resting it is only going to atrophy the very muscles in which you need to build supportive strength. And make sure you go to a Sports Medicine doctor, not some dude that does hip replacements on the elderly. Get in - Get off - Get away....repeat as neccessary
