  1. I was supposed to split 30 min 3 ways (each doing 5 2min slots) 1 Peep didn't show. I ended up doing two way practice for about 12 min straight, then a 1 min break, and then another 12 min or so. I was trying to cup my shoulders forward the whole time to generate enough lift to fly with the other guy. Did 4 skydives that day as well. This was Wed. I am still feeling it in my upper pecs today. 2. I've never seen this card...mine is the same but abbreviated(?) or something. Looks straight forward. Docking, breaking off at correct altitude, track away for safe deployment. I tried to do some 2 way stuff in the tunnel on wed. Bounced off the walls a lot. Got above my buddy and smashed him into the net once. I need to work more on rate of fall, but I felt like he needed weights or something. I was de-arching, cupping my shoulders forward, and he was still above me. Then I'd look up, and spill whatever lift I had just generated. My pecs still hurt from that 20 min workout... Get in - Get off - Get away....repeat as neccessary
  3. Is that a disadvantage as to flying with others? Or doing manuevers? Or do you just like to fall at a higher velocity? Get in - Get off - Get away....repeat as neccessary
  4. I have pretty much tackled my A check list. Need one more accuracy landing, plot a jump with a pilot, need to learn to pack. But I need to do all my RW jumps. What exactly do these jumps entail? Just docking and changing rate of fall? Or actually turning a point or two? Tracking after someone? Get in - Get off - Get away....repeat as neccessary
  5. Probably going to order some Birdman Freefly Pantz...as I'm not really fond of jumpsuits. I know they are great for tracking and back tracking, headdown etc, but do they have any distinct disadvantages in normal belly to earth stuff? Thanks

  7. No to the top list. Never attempted, was preparing. Possibly yes to the bottom list, if it clearly states, "Perished while PREPARING for his first BASE." or something to that effect. While I am an outsider to this, I kind of feel that those on the list would welcome him, being his intentions and all.
  8. Looked too sketchy here to risk the 3 hour round trip. Get in - Get off - Get away....repeat as neccessary
  9. I taught myself front flips on Wed. The first one I tried, I ended up perfectly stable...on my back. I was over 9k, so I didn't really give a damn, just barrel rolled over to my belly. But being all stable on my back was cool in itself. Maybe you should practice/learn backflying...you'd be more comfortable in case of a flip that put you in the wrong attitude. And spend some time in that tunnel BEFORE you jump again...that tunnel is an awesome training tool. Maybe do a five minute session before your next load. 10. Everyone wonders how much it will be to get the jet flying. That is the cheap part. I don't think asphalt can hold up to that weight. Building that concrete runway will cost WAY more than the plane, engines, retrofitting etc. Get in - Get off - Get away....repeat as neccessary

  12. Hit my first Sunset Loads @ Perris on Tues and Wed. Both loads were light (12 peeps?), so everyone was just lounging around in the Otter. Pilot stole us an extra 1500 feet or so each evening. The sun sitting/setting so low over those mountains is an awesome site. I was last out Tues, so I pulled @ 6K just to make it last longer. Both times as I was sitting in the back of Tim's truck (because I have to land in the North field) I was thinking to myself "That was f**king awesome!" Thanks for the good times to all who were on those loads with me. Get in - Get off - Get away....repeat as neccessary
  13. The only video of AFF dives I had seen were demo videos. Jim Wallace (who has like 18000 jumps) was the "student" in the videos and lo and behold he did everything perfect. As I watched my AFF grad video, I kept thinking, "I look so stiff and uncomfortable" and was pretty critical of myself. Then, as I bought my instructor beer @ the Bomb Shelter, I watched a culmination video of a group of Brits AFF dives. Some dudes looked like they were dog paddling, some like they were treading water with their legs, all sorts of stuff. And suddenly I was mutch less critical of myself. Trust me, you don't have anything to worry about. That looked good Get in - Get off - Get away....repeat as neccessary
  14. Please explain how you come up with that. For the "jury's" sake, let put this in terms of something they would understand. Lets say that I sold my car, with 100,000 miles on it to someone dirt cheap, and told them that there was something seriously wrong with it. I told them that the brakes just quit working every now and then, and even after taking it into the shop, the brakes still don't work right. I then tell them that it may be fixable, but it's probably only good for parts and that they probably shouldn't drive it. After buying it, that person turns around and sells the car, which I gave them ample warning about, and claims that it's in excellent condition and only has 50,000 miles, without even driving it once or having it looked at themselves. So you're saying that if the unsuspecting new buyer dies because the brakes failed on them, that I am liable for that. I think any court in the world would find that the person who sold it to this unknowing buyer, without disclosing any of the problems, even though they were well aware of them would be found at fault, rather than the original owner who sold it with the understanding that there was something wrong with the car. If you don't believe me, do some research on "lemon laws" and read about how many people/companies have been sued and imprisoned for selling a car with known problems without disclosing them to the buyer. Last time I checked, this was a parachute, not a car. As I understand it, only certain qualified individuals can work on parachutes. That person is expected to make choices regarding the safety of that parachute. Because of their knowledge, training and certification, their standard of negligence will be different than joe shmo reselling the gear. If this canopy truely has the said problems, this DZO/Master rigger had no business selling it to anyone other than another qualified rigger. She especially had no business selling it on ebay. And she DOESN'T say this is a non-jumpable canopy. I'll give you a better example than your car. When I was a kid, I had a very mean Rhodesian Ridgeback. She tore up a gardener. I had to get rid of her. I could have given her to anybody and said, "She bites, be careful." But knowing her disposition I gave her to an experienced breeder/trainer who was knowledgable enough to evaluate the situation. Why, because it was the RIGHT thing to do. 15. Hey, thanks man. As a bonified noob, my instructors and coaches talk to me about all this stuff non stop anyways...most of it is on my A checklist. Would be cool to meet some new peeps though. Get in - Get off - Get away....repeat as neccessary
  16. As I read this thread, I imagined a jury of people who have never and would never skudive listening to and reading this thread. One thing is obvious...the person with the most experience would be the TRAINED rigger who originally sold the canopy. NO WHERE in that ebay ad did it say the canopy is unflyable or unairworthy. It does say that it should be flown by an experienced canopy pilot...what IN-experienced pilot flies a 107??? Kenny might be a scum bag...but ultimately, I think legal responsibility (criminal or civil) would fall on the rigger in this instance. Get in - Get off - Get away....repeat as neccessary
  17. I keep reading about this safety day thing on Saturday. What is safety day? Is it a nation/world wide thing? Local thing? My retail store is open on Saturdays...so I can't make it to Perris regardless...just wondered what I'll be missing... I just graduated from AFF, so I am hoping that this is a review thing for peeps who haven't had instruction for a while. Get in - Get off - Get away....repeat as neccessary

  20. I am a new skydiver...with the sole goal of skydiving being a stepping stone to BASE. When I found dz.com, I read around and found the BASE threads. And eventually "nick's list". I read the list, each and every person. And there are valuable lessons to be learned. Looking at that list, one theme strikes me immediately. Complacency = death. Lots of very experienced people have passed away due to improper or non-existent gear checks, not checking the exit point properely etc. Another theme becomes clear as well. BASE is not skydiving. Exits are different, and MUCH more important. You can have 10,000 skydives, but if exit with bad position off a fixed object, you're in a world of hurt. I think I will read the list before any day of BASE jumping, so as to try not to fall victim to the same avoidable mistakes other, much more experienced jumpers have made in the past. As for the list discouraging new jumpers. If that list scares them away, they probably shouldn't be doing it anyways. Also of notice, I SCUBA dive a lot. I receive two monthly publications: DAN's Alert Diver, and Scuba Diver mag. Every issue, each has a "screw up" section. DAN calls it "Incident Insights". Scuba Diver calls it "Lessons for Life". In each, a slight lead up to the incident is given, including age, experience, currency and medical conditions(as you may know, medical stuff is very important to diving safety). Then a blurb on what happened. Followed by what could have been changed to avoid the incident. More often than not, the subject of the story has deceased, or suffered severe injuries. It is not morbid. It is not frowned upon. It is a valuable teaching tool. Your list should stay Get in - Get off - Get away....repeat as neccessary
  21. i'll come next week if they can get me a green card..... How come you can't get a work visa using skydiving as your job qualification or a student visa for skydiving instruction? People come to the US with web design skills or graphic arts, microsoft network pros etc etc. There HAS to be less skydiving professionals than graphic artists. Only certain individuals have skydiving experience. Locol Junior colleges are filled to the brim with computer geeks. Get in - Get off - Get away....repeat as neccessary
  22. I took AFF from Jim Wallace out of Perris. I had taken some AFF courses several years previously, so I got to skip a couple. The standard course is 8 jumps. I didn't have too many problems. I did 5 minutes in the wind tunnel prior to AFF 4. At first I was skeptical that this was just a way to milk me out of 160 bucks. I was mistaken. The wind tunnel helped me immeasurably. The confined area gives you perspective to your movement in the air. And yes, it was a cloud of industrial haze I fell through...my bad Get in - Get off - Get away....repeat as neccessary
  23. I did my first self-supervised skydive yesterday. It was weird having no instructor around. No one to yell altitudes to. No one to play cat and mouse with. Just no one period. So i just kicked back and enjoyed the scenery. I had never done a tandem jump, so this was the first time I ever just relaxed, looked around and checked things out. And I fell through a cloud...that was pretty cool as well. Get in - Get off - Get away....repeat as neccessary
  24. The pro shop (Square 1) @ Perris Valley DZ is looking for someone to work full time. Includes gear discounts. You have to be able to work on weekends. I saw the flier in their window yesterday. If anyone really wants a job at one of the busiest DZ's in the world, the opening is there. Get in - Get off - Get away....repeat as neccessary
