  1. This diving board should give you plenty of altitude. 876' plus. http://www.bridgeday.info/divingboard.php
  2. Hey Paul, Welcome to skydiving, Skydance, and dz.com. I'll see ya at the dropzone some time, but I probably won't be there this weekend. I made at least one jump every weekend for my first full summer in the sport, so you could say I'm pretty hooked. Have fun, and listen to Perry, Keith, and the other great AFF instructors in Davis.
  3. I think most people either use a digital altimeter that records it for you, take a guess on how long each jump was, or estimate it using a freefall time chart.

A F111 or ZP main?, an AAD?, a freefly frendly rig? Also try to figure out the value of each package by looking at similar items in the classifieds, or just go with whatever works best for you.
  5. Did some simulated instrument airplane flying or "hood work", and got cleared to take off and land solo at a different airport 20 miles away. 9 freefly skydives in the afternoons at Davis. Did a sweet 5-way freefly jump for Brett's 500th. We had a nice 4-way up/down piece flying for a while at the end of the jump. I was upright and my legs ended up about as wide as they could go. Had some fun tracking as usual. I'm also working on my head down and swooping. Had a couple pretty nice swoops and a few where my set up was way off, but at least I wasn't in the corner
  6. I packed one after a few too many 's. Mine was as I was putting the bag into the container. I had to pull the P/C and bridle through some lines, so that should have clued me in that something was wrong. It took slightly longer to open, but was controllable and landable enough.

  9. I'm sad to admit I opened it, but is that a testicle hanging down, part of his stomach, or leg? Warning: not safe for anyone

  11. I got arrested for a DUI, blew a .09 at the scene, and got my blood tested as .08 at the jail, the minimum in CA. I spent the night there. I felt sober and fine to drive at .08, but got pulled over for doing 80 in a 65 on a freeway. I hired a lawyer and it eventually got reduced to a wet and reckless and I got to keep my license, and did 6 drug awareness classes.
  12. With weights, a tight suit, or a hard arch you should be able to find someone who can match your fall rate. I don't think 200 lbs exit weight is so light even at 6'6" that you shouldn't be able to find someone to jump with. You can always look for a cute floaty light girl to skydive with. In the US, if you make 200 jumps within 18 months you can start wingsuiting after taking a first flight course with a wingsuit instructor. It's fun, but even better jumping with other people. You could always take up freeflying too and should be able to have a good fall rate range once you get good. Here's a pic of TallGuy's wing suit, he's 6'9" http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_view_flat;post=707036
  13. That same pic made it on page 42 of Sports Illustrated 9/4/06 edition. Caption: Picture This There is no questioning the bravery of Belgium's Johan Vervoort, even if he did back down from this challenge. Vervoort and 80 others hurled themselves off the 1,381-foot Kuala Lumpur Tower, the world's fifth-tallest freestanding tower, last week. Daredevils from around the world flock to the KL Tower International Jump every August. Said Jason Cyran, an Australian skydiving instructor, "This is a safe place to try out tricky stunts in the air." Makes you wonder about Cyran's idea of a dangerous place.
  14. Brian's been on vacation - maybe we can get him to catch up.
  15. 4500 for freefly or other breakoff altitude depending on the jump 3000 typical pull alti 1500 better do something quick
  16. http://www.cypres2.com/userguide/CYPRES_2_users_guide_english.pdf Page 36 Storage temperature: +71° to -25° Celsius Working temperature: +63° to -20° Celsius * * These temperature limits do not mean the outside (ambient) temperatures but rather temperatures inside the processing unit. Therefore, these limits won't have any meaning until the processing unit itself has reached the temperatures in question. In actual fact, these limits will rarely be reached due to the mandatory location of the CYPRES in the reserve container, and the insulating properties of the processing unit pouch and parachute canopies.

    Masters

I've got a masters in Computer Engineering and have done two years toward a Ph.D. I'm guessing with CS you wouldn't have to do too much paper writing besides commenting code and a README file. Some classes I've taken have been boring, others have been interesting and a ton of work. It all depends on the teacher and how much you want to put into it. I think it was worth it because I've always wanted one and I enjoy school. I started working right after I got my B.S. and didn't get a raise or anything after I got my M.S., which I was a little upset about, because the normal raise I got that year sucked as well. Hopefully it'll help if I ever switch jobs in the future. I enjoyed most of the classes better than the ones I took to get a B.S. because they were a lot more practical and tied in well with the stuff I was doing at work, so I can understand both work and school a lot better and get the big picture. After I started flying and jumping, I'm not as into school anymore though.
  19. 6 times around the pattern solo in a Cessna 172. 13 skydives in Davis: 2 wing suit jumps, 4 RW jumps, a couple camera jumps, 5 freefly jumps, 1 24way formation load tracking dive. My girlfriend flygirl1 also graduated AFF and did her first fun jumps with me.

    sold out

I was on the waiting list for the Holiday Inn last year and they called me about a week before Bridge Day and said they had a room for me if I still wanted it.
  21. I just reserved a room at America's Best Value Inn, formerly the Ramada Inn. They said they still have plenty of rooms available. $55+tax Thursday and Sunday nights, $75+tax Friday and Saturday. It's not too far of a drive if you're already going to have a car, only need a room to sleep in at night, and have someone sober to drive.
  22. I thought it was kind of funny as I was watching that last night on my widescreen TV, I had to switch it from zoom into normal mode so I could appreciate her ass in it's normal aspect ratio.
  23. Nope, I prefer girls that are younger, with real boobs, and haven't had kids. The whole MILF idea took off with the "American Pie" movies.
